We spotted the impressive tower from the road and decided to visit on a sunny day. Plenty of good quality surfaced car parking. A good cafe that closes around 4pm. Everything about the place is high quality, especially the standard or restoration of the court. The shop is well stocked and the staff were outstanding with a certain command of cymraeg verbally and in the castle guide provision, notices, etc. The free audio tour guide was excellent and easy to use although it would be good to be able to plug in an ear piece or position it close to your ear. Some innovative image projections in the kitchen area and pleasant garden area.

An amazing place from the 1400s with an even older castle at the back. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were personally shown across the road from the visitor centre to the main site and given an introduction to the place. That's something I've never experienced before. Several other people were there to explain the history of the place and explain the lifestyle of the time. All were good but my favourite was the guy explaining the various herbs, cooking ingredients and medicines available at the time. The admission price is £8.70 each which is very good value for money considering the history of the place and the great people, plus it also involves an audio guide. The cafe provides very good quality food (however, the menu choice is extremely small !). A great place to spend a couple of hours. CADW do this kind of thing really well.

Last visit was in 1973! The passion from the staff for the place is still great. Shame about the restaurant, a very limited lunch menu, my pork sandwich was just cold fat inedible.and over priced. They did refund just for the sandwich. Take a picknick and enjoy the views in the garden.

Free parking opposite. Lovely little shop where you get your tickets and audio device which is included in the price. The ruins itself are very small but the audio gives you great information and additional information if you want to hear. Wouldn’t take more than an hour to do it but very interesting

This was our second visit to Tretower, albeit with our son this time. The staff were so genuine and helpful. There were little Easter games to play around the site as well as an Easter egg hunt and crafts, all included in the ticket. It’s a great that you can bring the dog along for the wander although not up to the first floor, which wasn’t an issue at all. Lovely shop and a newish cafe which served us some great coffee and cake outside as it didn’t accommodate dogs.

We accidentally (!)find this castle , driving to Black Mountains site to explore .we had all place to ourself(staff was so kind to let us in few minutes earlier, before opening time and let us to enjoy it fully).
It was cold and calm, peaceful and glorious day.
Talking guide is brilliant .
I love all castle and gardens and house.
Architecture, wood, balcony.
Absolutely beautiful.
Please support Welsh side and buy Wels year admission card .

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff in "shop". History of Court explained and we were offered audio guides. We chose to wander on our own. Interpretation of how the ground floor of Court was furnished was most interesting. Nice to be able to view the upstairs as well. Lovely historic feel to the place. The weather had been atrocious so we were advised of the flooded gateways etc to the castle. Did manage to get over there and wandered around castle ruins. Able to take our dog with us into the ground floor accommodation.

Tretower Court dates from the early years of the 14th century, when the castle site was also still in use. The earliest part of Tretower Court is the north range. The masonry of the walls, the internal fireplaces, the windows and the projecting latrine tower all indicate a date maybe as early as 1300.

Wonderfully preserved and presented. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable. We found the audio device and system really good; much better than the old headphone setups some places have. No idea why some reviewers have to moan about it. Just the right amount of info and more detail if required at the touch of a button.
As for the complaints about the food and drink prices, I must have missed the rules that forced some visitors to eat cheesecake etc. then moan about it on here. If you don't want to pay café prices then bring your own snacks to help you make it to your next meal.
The shop was also laid out well with some quality items as well as a few things for children. Personally I picked up a bottle of Penderyn Legend Whisky which was priced quite fairly (I checked).
Recommended place to visit. Well laid out and educative.
