I had been from Australia to the UK's West Country before but had forgotten what a great structure this is.
Isambard Kingdom Brunel sure did a great job, with the bridge finished in 1859.
My Great Western Railway train was extremely comfortable in first class and as I moved slowly across this iconic bridge, I enjoyed great views of Plymouth's historic workingmens' cottages and other buildings.
Travel by GWR and enjoy!

If you are down that way, (Plymouth area), you simply MUST go to see this magnificent bridge! Like the Clifton Suspension Bridge, it is truly one of Brunel's masterpieces!

The Royal Albert Bridge is a crossing over the River Tamar which was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. He was responsible for many railway engineering feats.
The best way to enjoy the bridge is by train and there are regular services from Plymouth to Truro and Penzance. If you are going from Plymouth you will slowly cross the bridge from Devon into Cornwall and then go through Saltash station. It's worth looking back to get a great view of the bridge once you have passed through the station.
If you travel on the Tamar Valley line you travel underneath the bridge and can get some views of it but it is not as spectacular as going across it.

Another masterpiece of engineering designed by Isambard Brunel. It’s a beautiful looking lenticular bridge and to me it looks so narrow, it’s a wonder it can support the weight of a train. It looks good from the ground level, but seeing it from the Tamar Bridge is even better.
