Exceeded Our Expectations - by a lot

Diarmuid was our tour guide for the last 3 days and he was phenomenal. He knew so much about the history of the area and he took us to places we would never have found without his knowledge.

A Slea Head Drive Self-Driving Tour To Remember

Denis walked us through the magic and mystery of Coastal Southwest Ireland like it was a breeze on his Self Driving Tour. Two Americans with our 14 year old son, with a bucket list trip to discover our Irish ancestry in person - we were keen to learn everything there was to know about the history of the region - from ancient times, through medieval monastic times, famine times to the present. Denis went right to it, teaching and educating on each of these points in time, within the vivid, jaw-dropping vistas of Slea Head Drive. I saw and learned more than I expected about the ancient beehive huts, the preservation of Christianity during the Middle Ages, the potato famine, and suppression & renewal of the Celtic language and culture. Midway through this glorious first day, a double rainbow emerged across the emerald field overlooking the ocean - as if to say, “Welcome to Ireland!”

This tour is absolutely incredible! The views are spectacular! The driver pulled over at several scenic spots that weren't technically on the tour for us to take pictures!

I had the privilege of being Denis Ryan’s first tour back since the pandemic, and let me tell you it was FANTASTIC. I did the private self-drive archeological tour in and around Slea Head—I don’t think I can ever go back to bus tours. Denis is a terrific guide that personalizes the tour to your interests and was more than accommodating to my travel plans. His knowledge of Irish and local history makes for a very fascinating tour, and his connections got us into places that people often miss. The combination of ancient sites and breathtaking views makes for a perfect itinerary, and you move at your own pace.

I was really nervous about driving around Slea Head since I’m from America where they drive on the right side of the road, and the thing that sold me was how reassuring he was, guiding and navigating better than any gps. We took it slow and had no issues. And to top it all off, it’s SUPER affordable for a private tour, WELL worth the price.

I would recommend this even if you’re not into archeology—you really get a sense of the story of Ireland. Denis is interesting and lovely to be around too, altogether a great experience.

Begley is the Best

My wife and I just spent several days based out of Dingle. It was our first trip and we booked our airport transportation as well as our sightseeing tours with Diarmuid Begley and Dingle Bus Tours. I can't even begin to describe how outstanding and lovely Diarmuid and the entire company was. They made our trip and their geniue warmth, thoughtful demeanor and encyclopedic knowledge of Ireland enriched our experience greatly. You'd be hard pressed to be treated to a better time, and I'd recommend anyone exploring Western Ireland use the Begley Tours and when you do, please tell them the O'Brien's from Massachusetts send their warmest regards.

Dingle and Ring of Kerry tours

We took two excellent tours with Dermid one around the Dingle Peninsula and one of the Ring of Kerry. We showed an interest in Irish history and Dermid gave us great information and insight and stopped at places he knew we’d like to visit. It was just the two of us and he showed great willingness to point out the best stops for photographs. His knowledge of history from ancient through contemporary gave us an understanding of Ireland today and throughout the centuries. He’s a fun person to spend a day with.

Slea Head tour with Denis

While in Dingle, we booked a tour through our B&B hostess, Helen. Our guide arrived to pick us up, and now we consider him a friend. Denis designed our tour especially for my companion and me. We don’t like the normal tours....I prefer looking at farms and sheep , while my partner prefers nature and local history. Denis gave us what we wanted, and much more. We would recommend him to every small group visiting Dingle. He was awesome! Thank you, Denis!

Disappointed

We booked with Denis Ryan in June for our October trip. We were beyond disappointed, after fawning over all of his positive reviews together in the car ride from Doolin to Dingle, to find that he had forgotten about our booking and instead had accepted a walk-in tour just hours before our arrival. When you drive hours to a town for a specific highlight (in this case, a tour with Denis) only to find that your reservation had been erased, it really puts a damper on the day.

The woman at the tourist information center was less than helpful, not seeming to care at all about what had happened, as she was the one who had booked the walk ins for Denis. She did book us a tour with another local guide, but we were just one part of a larger group and were stuffed all the way in the back of a van, having to crawl out at every stop. The weather was terrible that day, zero visibility.

Out of all of the lovely people and places we experienced in Ireland, I have to say that Dingle is probably not a place we would revisit.
