It's just a statue. It's a very nice statue with some interesting history. But it's just a statue. Have a look ifyou are welking by, but it's not a reason to visit Cobh on its own.

This was a very informative experience as our family were Robinson settlers. I was able to read and watch more about this experience for our relatives. It was even very informative for my 10 year old daughter who would have gotten bored without the interactive questions to answer and receive a price. There was just enough reading and interaction to make it a perfect mix. It was even better that we weren't missing anything outside during the down pour. Anyone who has heritage in Ireland should check out this experience.

So many people left Ireland during the famine years of the mid-1800’s. This statue reminds us that people of all ages travelled with hopes of finding a better life.

The Annie Moore statue on the quay at Cobh is both a lovely sculpture and a poignant representation of history. History tells us that the 17-year-old Annie and her even younger brothers bravely sailed to America from Cobh (then Queenstown), hoping to be reunited with their parents after being separated from them for more than three years. And history tells us that Annie became the first foreigner to be processed through the then-brand new immigration center at Ellis Island in New York harbor on January 1, 1892. The statue is definitely worth a photo stop on any visit of Cobh.

Cobh es el nombre que recibe el puerto marítimo de Cork. La forma más cómoda de llegar es en tren, nada más salir de la estación os encontraréis con esta bonita estatua dedicada a Annie Moore, la primera inmigrante que entró a los Estados Unidos por la Estación de Ellis Island en el puerto de Nueva York. Solo tenía 15 años y viajaba acompañada de sus hermanos Anthony y Philip. Pronto pudieron juntarse con sus padres, que vivían en la ciudad. Recientemente,en el año 2006, su tumba fue descubierta. Se supo entonces que vivió toda su vida en Manhattan, se casó con otro inmigrante alemán y tuvo 11 hijos. Sus restos se hallaron en el cementerio de Calvary, Queens, junto a uno de sus hijos.
Annie abrió el camino a otros muchos compatriotas que salieron desde este puerto de Cobh, arrastrados por la crisis y la hambruna, buscando un futuro mejor. Desde aquí partieron más de 2,5 millones de inmigrantes con destino a los Estados Unidos entre 1848 y 1950.
Cobh se encuentra en una isla atrapada entre dos canales del Lee que se abren hacia el puerto natural más grande de Europa y segundo del mundo tras Sidney , lo que a la larga trajo la prosperidad a la ciudad, pero su nombre también está unido a dos tragedias marítimas: este fue el último puerto de escala del Titanic, aquí hizo su última parada para recoger pasajeros aquel buque antes de naufragar y en el que perecieron 1.500 personas, pero es que también frente a este puerto, tres años después en 1915, un torpedo alemán hundió el trasatlántico "Lusitania" provocando la muerte de 1198 pasajeros.

I`m confused. The statue of Annie Moore is in Cohb Irelandf.....and you mention it depicts them arriving in New York....
Shouldn`t it be at Ellis Island where they arrived?

Not very far at all. In fact it is located right outside the building where the Titanic Experience is located in. Enjoy!
