Such a great place to walk around and explore. As you walk around you will come across many people in period dress eager to chat and give you a piece of the history. My visit was during Covid restrictions so some of the displays were not fully accessible but still a wonderful visit.

Such a neat place to walk around to explore. They even lent us (for free) a super cozy stroller for our toddler. We loved the giant goat and rabbit. While we were there, there was a street market happening and we could come & go as we pleased. Admission was free this summer and it was great interacting with all the employees who were dressed and playing a role. I'd go back for sure! Loved the employees at admissions: super nice!

It is well worth the drive to visit Sherbrooke Village and spend a few hours to a full day with family and friends! With over 34 business and community buildings to visit and view. Many walked about and building, very friendly costumed interpreters to talk about the late 1800 of the prosperous boom town, by timber for tall ships, gold mining, blacksmith, post office, printers, jailer, drug store, Dr. office, photo studio, farm animals and so many more. Don't miss the real rare origin working sawmill, powered by a beautiful outdoor wooden water wheel. We also enjoy a fresh garden salad, followed by lunch of fish and corn chowder with home made tea biscuits in the tea room. They had a good selection of homemade baked goods.
Also, we learn they host many events throughout the season for everyone, like Sherbrooke Village Old Fashioned Christmas. So take time, to step back into time, of the biggest village museum in NS. It was a fun and great day visiting Sherbrooke Village!!!

Staff and just how big this place is are what makes it.
Was a Saturday market on when we were there and that really made for a fun day of market + exploring the village.

Ask the blacksmith about his Penny Farthing bike

Ask the post office about the Spanish Flu and masks in the 1918 era.

Ask the photographer about her glass plate photography (she's only 1 of 2 people in the WORLD still doing it the old fashioned way and you can pay for pics from her)

Ask the drug store chemist about her soothing balms she makes the old fashioned way.

Ask the weaver about her 4 carriage loom and the the fabrics she makes the old fashioned way and sells in the gift store.

We visited the Village on September 7.

Normally you can wander around and explore but in this Time of COVID it’s guided tours only. You also only have limited access to the buildings.

On the upside, once you see those little bits and peak through the windows you know you have to go back.

The buildings are very well maintained and the site still has one permanent resident. The guides are very knowledgeable and welcome questions.

It’s still worth visiting even with the restrictions and I am really glad we took the time to do it this summer.

We decided to do a staycation because of Covid and booked into Liscombe lodge thinking we would explore the area. One spot on the list was going to be a trip to Sherbrooke Village we haven’t been in years. Well I can understand restrictions due to Covid but the province needs to step up its game ,I can now go shopping in a mall with a mask on but can’t stroll through the village unless it’s a guided tour and most buildings were closed . Our plan was to have a lite lunch but that was closed the lady at reception was very nice but two other couples left as well. This is supposed to be run by the province as far as I understand and they should be promoting locals visiting. We have cut our trip here short and are heading to Cape Breton. We might be back but probably not .

We are so sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your visit to Sherbrooke Village. The situation with Covid-19 was a learning experience for all of us and we were doing what we thought was best to keep our staff and visitors safe. Please do give us another chance when the threat of disease is behind us and we can throw our doors open to all!

Only guided tours so you can’t go at your own pace. Most buildings closed, very few displays. This could be an awesome place but sure could use some fresh ideas and creativity to bring this gem alive. There is so much opportunity to bring our history to life here and so much can be done outside so all could enjoy. This place has potential but needs new, fresh, young ideas!

We are so sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your visit to Sherbrooke Village. The situation with Covid-19 was a learning experience for all of us and we were doing what we thought was best to keep our staff and visitors safe. Tour guides were taking their groups into buildings but due to cleaning requirements between each group of visitors we were required to close doors in between groups. Please do give us another chance when the threat of disease is behind us and we can throw our doors open to all!

Staycation in Sherbrooke Village:
If you are looking for a great day – yes it would be a full day, I would highly recommend a trip down the #7 to Sherbrooke Village.
They are open Daily 9:30 am to 5:00 pm for visits with guided tours (When Covid 19 Restrictions Allow, Watch for Updates) and admissions for guided tours is by donation.
This was our first 2020 Staycation visit. We spent a very enjoyable two hour visit with a guided tour on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. During our trip down the Eastern Shore, we stopped by Taylor’s Head Beach just before Sheet Harbour (80 minute drive from Dartmouth) and enjoyed a quick walk on the beach. We stopped by Liscombe Lodge to check out our Saturday night reservation and had a quick picnic lunch by the River before driving twenty minutes to Sherbrooke Village. This is the the village's 50th Anniversary but due to Covid, all 2020 Special Events and Learning Camps are re-scheduled for 2021.
A bit of history from their website: “The French were the first European visitors to Sherbrooke, as early as 1655. By 1815 the settlement which developed at the head of navigation became known as Sherbrooke, in honour of Sir John Coape Sherbrooke, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. For years the community prospered, supported by farming, fishing and the timber trade. Busy mills produced deal, planks, laths, spars, ships' knees and shingles for the British and West Indian markets. In 1861, the cry of "Gold!" was heard and the town became a live and energetic mining camp. Nineteen mining companies had flocked to participate in the discovery by 1869 and Sherbrooke boomed. The boom lasted approximately 20 years, a time which could be described as Sherbrooke's Golden Age. The Sherbrooke Village Restoration area was established in 1969 to conserve a part of Sherbrooke as it was during the last half of the 1800s. Today, you can explore this amazing village with its 25 original buildings, to experience life as it was along the St. Mary’s River before the 1900s. Hear tales about the village as costumed interpreters bring history to life”.
Our personal tour guide (complete with mask) was wonderful. She had a direct line back to the prominent Cuminger family. Thank you for a great afternoon.

A return visit after many years. It was a great morning with sunny weather. With several buildings open to explore and craftspeople such as Blacksmith, Furniture maker, Pottery and Print shop where one can see craftspeople doing the jobs as they were done about 1900.

A great venue for all ages - would recommend at least a couple hours. As these are original period structures it is not completely accessible.

In spite of Covid19 a good time with excellent guide.

My husband spent the day learning to be a blacksmith; he absolutely loved it. He was busy all day long. No sitting. I traveled around the village. Lots of houses closed due to time of the year but I still enjoyed being in this beautiful, peaceful place.
