Горнолыжный курорт Гейло (Geilo) расположен в Центральной Норвегии, в 250 км к северо-западу от Осло.
Сезон катания здесь с ноября по начало мая. К сожалению, мы побывали здесь в конце июля, поэтому пришлось обойтись без лыж, зато мы вдоволь налюбовались красотой этого места. А воздух здесь действительно можно пить. Тут великолепная природа, шикарный торговый центр и куча кафешек и ресторанчиков. Даже просто приехать отдохнуть на день и то стоит.

Mooi gebied met veel zomer activiteiten

In de zomer draait het in Geilo om wandelen en fietsen. Voor mountainbikers is het een super gebied. Recent zijn er diverse parcours in de natuur aangelegd waar je als mountainbiker goed aan je trekken komt. Hier wordt dat “skurven” genoemd. Ook diverse fietsroutes. Maar daar moet je wel goed opletten welke je kiest qua moeilijkheidsgraad (hoogteverschillen en lengte). Om het meer heen is in ieder geval een aanrader. Overal rond Geilo zijn wandel en fietspaden aangelegd zodat je ook nergens auto’s hoeft tegen te komen. Ook het downhill parcours bij het summerpark is zeer populair. Daar zijn ook allerlei andere activiteiten voor kids (klimparcours, trampoline, speeltuin). Geilo zelf heeft een aantal leuke winkels waaronder veel sport(kleding)winkels. Grote supermarkt.

SKI BUS !!!!!! beware of the slippery floor on the ski bus very dangerous

although the ski bus is a great addition this ski season, not a lot of thought has gone into the safety of the wet floor conditions. I slipped as I entered the ski bus badly enough to bang my head on the floor luckily I was wearing a ski helmet but this did not prevent the bruising of my thighs and my backside, I was lucky it was the last day of my holiday as I wouldn't have been able to ski due to the injuries I sustained. The bus driver didn't even get out of his seat.

If you are into wintersports, you cant go wrong here.

Great for young families!

Geilo is perfect for young children to learn to ski. This was our third time here. The ski school on the Geilolia side is fantastic, Hilde and Oliver need a special mention! After one lesson our 4 year old was able to ski with the rest of us pretty much all over the mountain. The lifties are great with little children and the slopes are so quiet that you can let them go on ahead without fear of them being flattened or ending up on a black run! But there's also loads of jumps and rollers and secret bits through the trees to keep children interested. If you're skiing with a group on the Geilolia side, you never have to arrange a meet-up if you become separated because all the runs lead down to one point, if you wait at the bottom long enough you'll see them again! The snow wasn't great this year but it didn't affect our skiing as the groomers keep on top of the slopes and surrounding areas. Would definitely recommend to families taking children skiing for the first few years.

Good skiing, not crowded!

When you come to Geilo, there are skiing facilities on both sides of this litle town. We got to visit both Vestlia and Geilo. They are both good hills to ski down, but we liked Vestlia best. Mostley because there were more options on types of hills here. The last time I was here were over 12years ago. Alot have changed, for the better. There are several more lifts to the top and all around in the slopes. We were positively suprised over the quality of food we got here as well.

It's not just about skiing!

This is a review of our two day stay in Geilo during the summer. Obviously this is a fairly busy place in the winter but it is nice and quiet in the summer and the perfect rest over during our packed tour of Norway. We particularly liked the walk around the local fjord which is on a really good tarmac bicycle path (very few cyclists) close to the beautiful fjord. Loads of wild flowers and plants in the verges and a few birds and butterflies for us to photograph. Highly recommended.

Awesome holiday

Despite having to notoriety of a location capable of breaking the bank, I would thoroughly recommend Geilo as an option to consider. Perhaps not as popular as it's neighbouring resorts like Hemsedal, Lillehammer or Trysil; that's exactly why one ought to consider Geilo. A three-hour train ride away from Oslo, Geilo offers a chilled-out, family-friendly ski/snowboard holiday with a modest selection of runs to consider. The little town is well equipped with whatever you need really, and there's even a snowboard museum!! Geilo is absolutely beautiful in every sense, from the wonderful people I met to the gorgeous scenery. I loved every second of it and deserving of a return trip.
