Flashing torches - beware!!

The theatre itself is lovely and I can't complain about the ticket price for up in the gods. However, I took exception to the officious authoritarian who insisted on flashing her torch several times during the first half of the show. There was no one on their phone that I could see! She then had the cheek before the show restarted to point in the direction of us and those beside and behind to say keep phones off and not to make noise as we had done in the first half!!
This resulted in several people being somewhat irked in disbelief and challenged her and then being threatened to be thrown out if we didn't just accept what she said!! A security woman then told us to be
Civil and just enjoy the show as if people were arguing with the steward.

Seat ordering is a Fab thing for the interval especially if up in the gods and all those stairs!

TERRIBLE

Went to see Bodyguard last night, this has to be the worst show I have seen ever, no story absolutely terrible.
Also experience was dreadful people sitting in front of me were talking loud, and the manager came across to me and asked me to leave, I refused, after feeling very embarrassed, went to speak to the manager in the interval, and asked what was wrong, she sad I was singing, I could not believe what I was hearing, for starters the show was that bad, I did not sing along, I left at that point.

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY STAY AWAY.

The Bodyguard- One to miss

Went to see The Bodyguard as a Valentines treat. Oh dear oh dear . Acting wooden and awful- the singing was truly dreadful. We left at the interval and were not alone. We love the Sundetland Empireand not their fault that this terriblly produced show has come town. At least watching the stalker fail in his attempt to keep up with the video version of jimself and the accents made us laugh.

"Fantastic afternoon of entertainment"

Thoroughly enjoyed 'My Fair Lady' matinee performance on Saturday 11th Feb '23. Every single cast member pulled out a superb performance. Purchased 2 glasses of wine pre-show @ £19 which is extortionate. Will keep coming back for more fine shows in the future.

NOT SO FAIR MY LADY!

we were meant to see my fair lady thursday 9th february matinee only to receive a text at 11.29am to say it was cancelled DUE TO UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES.we were just pulling into the train station at 11.31 does sunderland empire find this acceptable as far as we COULD SEE the building hadnt burnt down so we were £24 down travelling expenses 4hours of our time travelling on public transport then we get home to find an email from atg we were only given a £94 CREDIT NOTE do sunderland empirre find this acceptable as we are never going to see my fair lady i know atg only offer credit notes but sunderland empire should ask them to refund us all in full.this has left us with a very bad taste in our mouth so would we return to sunderland empire again i dont think so as this could happen anytime.

Watched what's love got to do with it the theatre was lovely and the show was good. Be aware they do not take cash when buying drinks or ice creams as I found out after fighting my way to the front of the cue with my 20 note to be told card only.

Sat in stalls Row S for pantomime, never saw 1 minute of it, seat was directly behind the seat in front, chaps head in front of me completely occluded the stage, not enough rake! He was only a little bigger than me but that is not really a factor. Most disappointed.

Several years since I visited Sunderland Empire for the pantomime but we were not disappointed. The whole family enjoyed Aladdin and our three grandsons enthusiastically joined in with booing the baddie. Gary Lucy was excellent.

booked tickets to see Les Mis and it was amazing! The the empire is an amazing theatre with amazing architecture. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Looking forward to our next visit. X
