Great looking pub etc. as others have described, and friendly service. Loses 2 points for the prices, paid £7.50 for a pint of Guinness and a half of lemonade and lime! Dont remember it being that expensive a few years ago, last time I was in.

I’ve been coming to the dun cow for 40 years , on and off , it’s friendly , and proper pub , staff know their Ales Greg and I love it

This bar has its original Edwardian back bar and stained glass. The service was lovely and friendly. The restaurant was not available so they recommended a few local restaurants, which were very good. They also returned my umbrella I left behind.

I know going out for a drink is expensive but £9.50 for a pint of lager and a bottle of cider is a total rip off, add in the very cold air coditioning thougout the bar and we took our money to the local weatherspoons where for a couple of pounds extra, you can throw in two decent meals.

Food was beautiful, staff was lovely, but service was quite slow all way through there was a wait the menus wait for drinks order to be taken, and so on. Would recommend and would visit again but would def allow extra time so we can enjoy our food more.

Visited a few times for pre-theatre drinks, lovely Edwardian decor, welcoming fire, helpful and welcoming staff.

The Dun Cow is a beautiful Edwardian building between the Sunderland Empire and the Fire Station. Fantastic back bar, great real ales and very welcoming. Highly recommended.

Have used this pub on more than one occasion when visiting the theatre in Sunderland. Great location as right next door and probably worth a visit to see a traditional back bar and old style pub.
Tonight’s visit I was enjoying a nice pint of cask ale and chatting to fellow theatre goers and locals when my pint slide off the table onto the floor. At least four other people witnessed it and bar staff were quickly round to tidy up. The pubs ghost ? It often happens ! Floor un even ! Didn’t even offer to replace the drink just £3.80 please . Locals and company really shocked plus partner upset as covered in doom bar . Come on guys it doesn’t cost much to replace and a little customer service goes a long way

Next door to the Empire Theatre so very handy for a pre theatre drink.Like the cosy atmosphere and the character of the pub,there is a snug like area at the far end with a fire. Theres a good choice of real ales which pleases my husband.last time we were there they had live music ,great band they were.The staff are very friendly and just nice to have a proper pub to go to
