What a great place. Full of interesting farming paraphernalia, tractors, mill wheels, ploughs etc. Some video presentations of history of farming in Scotland and Kittochside farm -the family donated the whole farm and land. There’s play areas for children and learning zones. You can take a tractor pulled trailer ride to the farm. See pigs, horses, cows, sheep, hens. We saw piglets. You can go into the farmhouse and see what it was like in times past. Wear wellies it is a farm after all!
The museum is modern and bright. There’s a cafe for light lunches/ coffee and cake. A wee shop with farm related gifts. Staff were friendly and helpful. And it’s not an admission fee it’s actually an annual pass. Full price £11 we got concessions £9. We can go as many times as we like within the year. Great value. Easy to get to from M77 and plenty parking. Highly recommend

Went on a really dreich and wet day with big muddy puddles everywhere, so was glad of the fun tractor-trailer ride to the farmhouse, and it was uplifting to see how both little kids ( and big ones ) all enjoyed it. Very interesting to see the working farm and especially all its animals , with the hens roaming around freely. The Georgian farmhouse is still decorated as it was in the 1950s , having been in the Reid family for 10 generations, and you can tell life was a hard toil back then. The museum itself has Scotland’s largest collection of agricultural & farming machinery & other related exhibits - so plenty to keep you absorbed. There’s a good well-stocked shop with lots of souvenirs & gifts etc, and a cafe that we never managed to fit in. The best bit is the tickets ( emailed) are for unlimited visits valid for a year , so we definitely intend to revisit in better weather.

First time visitor here from Penrith Cumbria, spent just over a couple of hours and enjoyed it. We had a little look around the museum before taking a tractor ride up to the farm, we decided to do this before the rain came down. Upon arriving at the farmhouse we were warmly greeted by a lovely lady called Maggie who was busy cleaning down the yard, if it wasn't for her I wouldn't have been aware we were allowed to go into the farmhouse - unfortunately I'm not one for always reading signs. The farmhouse was a fabulous step back in time - there was plenty of information to read but my only wish was if a personal interaction from a member of staff to talk through the history of the building, describe items unfamiliar and there to answer any questions visitors may have. After leaving the farmhouse we again spoke to Maggie who introduced us to her beautiful horse Freya & took time out to have a great conversation with us which I personally appreciated, she also showed us where to see the calves, the POW room, where to wash our hands, pointed out the other Clydesdale horses in the field and lastly pointed us in the direction of the garden & walking back to the museum. If it wasn't for her I may have given a 3 star - not because of lack of contents but because of lack interaction - that being said we were approached by a gentleman I never got the name of unfortunately if we'd like to take the tractor back to the museum but we'd already decided we'd like to walk back but we're greatful for being asked. We then went back and spent some time in the museum and it was so nice to see so many things I'd never seen before, however no staff around to ask any questions but still had an enjoyable day. I hope Maggie gets to hear/read/ and praised on this review as because of her genuine interaction & friendliness I would return & recommended to many people. Thanks Maggie 5*

I come regularly to the farm having a NT membership.
And normally have a great experience up at the farm. With it being easter weekend it was busy but a nice atmosphere and a few lambs had just been born and a few about to.
I get that it's a working farm and farming staff have their day jobs to do but it is open to the public and a little friendliness goes a long way. If a young toddler waves to a tractor it takes little effort to wave back or even smile at them. A lamb just being born with an eager audience and as the farmer was moving mum and babies into a new pen past the audience he didn't give any acknowledgement of us being there and walked past holding both lambs by their legs. People asking questions but were being ignored. The lady clearing the pens did acknowledge the stream of visitors but more tolerated them than welcomed them. My little 3 year old nephew who has a speech delay was singing baa baa black sheep which, although the words weren't there the tune was obvious and he was told to be quiet as he will disturb the lambs! The lambs in a farm next to sheep baa- ing loudly, cows mooing, tractors going back and forth and an audience of.about 30 people! The wee soul signed the word sorry! A three year old non speaking child told to be quiet! he was singing not shouting. SHOCKING! I was so upset for him.
So the three farming staff obviously didn't want the public around but the National trust staff were all fantastic as usual. Very welcoming, and very friendly and helpful.
I will be back just hope farmers can accept it is open to public so public will be there.

Visited on a rainy Saturday morning, not knowing much about this museum in advance. We were very pleasantly surprised by the experience - great exhibitions on rural history with artwork, old equipment and tractors. We took the tractor ride up to the farm, most of the animals were keeping out of the rain but we saw some cute calves and piglets, and toured the beautiful old farmhouse, which has a truly fascinating history. There is also a cafe with lovely views, picnic tables and a play park. We look forward to visiting again with our nieces and nephews in fairer weather!

You can quite easily spend at least a couple of hours here - between going around the farm & farmhouse & checking out all the animals, wandering around the exhibits in the museum, and having a good look at the well stocked shop.

I am thinking of going with my nephew but it says we need to book a 1 hour slot but i don't think 1 hour is enough?? Can someone clarify if we only have 1 hour there ?
เขียนเมื่อ 13 พฤศจิกายน 2021
Fear not. Winter brings lower visitor numbers so quieter. Just book and come along. Staff are great and no one will chase you.

Hello, Thanks for your question and for all responses above.
Non-assistance dogs are allowed outdoors on the site as long as they are kept on a lead at all times. They are not allowed in the museum building or the farmhouse, however. Dogs are allowed outdoors at event days, as long as they are on a lead.

Can you do horse riding in the place and if yes how much is it and do you have to book first
เขียนเมื่อ 30 มิถุนายน 2016
There is no horse riding on the Farm other than regular exercise of the Stock Person's own Irish Cob or at events like the Heavy Horse Show but not by the Public.

Can you tell me about the additional discretionary charge to the entrance fee? And exactly how much is it?
เขียนเมื่อ 8 มีนาคม 2016
Hiya,
Thank you for your query. The full admission price is £7, this includes a discretionary donation of 70p. The admission to the Museum without the discretionary donation is £6.30.
The discretionary donation helps support the Museum and its work, and with your permission also allows us to collect Gift Aid – we can reclaim tax on the whole amount paid – which makes a real difference to our income.
I hope that you are planning a visit to the museum soon as spring is an exciting time to visit, with flowers out and new born animals on the farm. There are special activities on over the Easter weekend as well - find out more at the National Museums Scotland website.

I did not have a dog, however the website confirms that dogs are allowed outdoors as long as they are on a lead. You are unable however, to take your dog inside the museum or the farmhouse unless it is an assistance dog.
