One of best (if not the best) preserved old towns we have been to in Europe. Part of the reason it seems so well preserved is they don't the level of stores, museums and shops they do in say Tallinn Estonia. So there is a bit of a tradeoff where you get to walk around an old area - but have somewhat less to do / see. We did take a guided tour with Marko which was excellent.
Travelling through Merida, Caceres, Sevilla, Cordoba in the same 2 weeks really gave a nice comparative sense of what was Roman vs Moorish vs Visigoth vs Catholic.
We happened to be there when they were filming the prequel to Game of Thrones - so we got to see it with sand/dirt on group and not stones which made it even better (up to when they started closing down streets for pre-filming and starting hiding and covering up historical artwork.

Interesting old town with city wall, plenty of restaurants and interesting architecture. We wandered around , mostly lost and then found the newer part of town to eat out on a budget.

No hay palabras para describir este conjunto monumental, está en unas condiciones inmejorables. La cantidad de monumentos que hay en el recinto es enorme y para verlo en condiciones, se debe estar un día como mínimo y si eres un apasionado de los mismos, te puedes pasar mucho más tiempo. Es sencillamente fantástico

La ciudad vieja está amurallada, quedan algunas torres almohades construidas sobre base romana. Los edificios son de varias épocas, pero predominan los de baja edad media y renacentistas porque fue después de la reconquista (s.XIII) cuando la ciudad experimentó su mayor auge. Hay varias torres (concatedral, etc.) para subir con lo cual conviene no ir muy cargado porque los tramos finales son escaleras de caracol y es totalmente aconsejable subir a lo alto porque las vistas son espectaculares.

Pur non essendo particolarmente turistica, la città di Caceres presenta comunque un centro storico molto interessante e piacevole da visitare. Generalmente la scoperta dalla città avviene partendo dalla plaza Mayor, su cui affacciano il bell’edificio sede del municipio ed alcune antiche torri di origine araba. Sempre dalla piazza principale, attraverso l’arco della stella, si accede alla parte più antica della città e subito si arriva alla bellissima piazza di Santa Maria, su cui affacciano la cattedrale, il palazzo episcopale e numerosi palazzi storici di famiglie nobili. Proprio i dintorni di questa piazza sono a mio parere il punto più bello da vedere, anche se proseguendo nella scoperta di questo centro storico si potranno poi vedere anche altre cose interessanti come la piazza di San Giorgio, su cui affaccia la chiesa di San Francisco, o anche tratti delle antiche mura. Una visita nel complesso piacevole, senza però imbattersi in niente di memorabile.

Preciosa la parte antigua de Cáceres. Tiene rincones, callejuelas y plazuelas espectaculares. Muy cómoda de visitar.

Well worth a visit. We took a taxi in from our hotel and it dropped us right in the old town square. We walked around the old part which is very picturesque. We then chose to sit in the square at a local bar and enjoy drinks, snacks and then coffee. A bit of people watching is very relaxing and a very pretty setting. Unbeknown to us it turned out to be a local regional holiday so there was music and dancing on a stage set up in the square later that evening. Everyone was very friendly and we loved our time here.

Espectacular. Está muy bien conservado y querrías entrar en todos los palacios. Un lugar lleno de historia y merece horas para fijarse en los detalles.

Sorry, I’m tardy in responding. If you are still interested in an answer I hope this will help. We stayed in Hotel Casa Don Fernando. It’s on the Plaza Mayor just across from the very beautiful medieval town. Gorgeous view. Close walk to great restaurants. Very nice, etc. As to the car? They have a deal with Parking Obispo Galarza on a very easy to locate street very near the hotel. You can get to the hotel to drop bags if you need to, but it is tricky. We were there for 3 nights and just took in our carryon luggage. Very secure parking. About a 10 minute walk. Happy travels! You will love Caceres!!!

Hola, como soy de aquí, nunca he requerido los servicios de visitas guiadas. Sí que le confirmo que merece la pena y para conocer el precio lo mejor es ponerse en contacto telefónico con la oficina de información turística del Ayuntamiento de Cáceres.

En la plaza de San Juan, hay restaurantes , mesas con sombrillas, para comer en el exterior, se come muy bien y los precios muy cómodos.

espero visitar Caceres (y provincia) en agosto 2016, hay alguna fecha y lugar que puedan ser especialmente interesantes por algún motivo???
es una visita familiar, vamos con nuestra hija de 6 años. hay algun lugar especialmente indicado para niños en la provincia? de esos que recuerdas especialmente.

Hola! Pues no aconsejarìa el mes de agosto para visitar Caceres pero tampoco Julio, son meses muy calurosos. En primavera el clima aqui en Caceres es perfecto para visitar su estupendo casco antiguo y ver las famosas ciguenas encima de las iglesias y casas, a los ninos podrian gustar mucho.

Para ver los precios y horarios de cada monumento es necesario mirar en las páginas de cada uno de ellos y allí se ve.
Si no presencialmente, al lado de la Plaza de Santa María hay una oficina de turismo donde te informarán.
También en la misma Plaza Mayor está la Asociación de Guías Turísticos de Cáceres donde ofrecen visitas muy completas a la Ciudad Monumental.
