The building in which the City Museum of Woerden is located is beautiful! It was the town hall of Woerden from 1501 to 1890, so served as such for almost 400 years (!). The town hall was built in 1501, originally as a single-storey building. In 1553 the hexagonal stair tower on the right side wall was built.. the tower is covered by a spire with lantern, in which a late 16th century bell still hangs. Around 1610, the council house was considerably expanded. It was raised with floor and an extension was realized at the rear. This is how the current building was created. The fact that it consists of several parts in terms of dating is clearly visible. The oldest floor below shows features of the architectural style late Gothic, while the 1st floor shows the style of the Renaissance. The current top of the façade is a result of a restoration in 1890 .. too bad, this façade seems to be somewhat disharmonizing with the older parts of the exterior. The town hall, as usual until the end of the 18th century, also had the function of "regthuys", i.e. in the building not only the city council met, justice was also administered. This also explains the large pillory on the right against the facade, added there in 1567. The building thus served as a "town house" from 1501 to 1890. After that, the District Court sat in the building until 1933. The Stadsmuseum Woerden then moved into the building. We had no opportunity to visit the museum this time but will definitely do this again, because the interior still contains numerous remnants from the long town hall period. Beautiful building!!

Interessante en mooie tentoonstelling Bon Voyage over Cornelis Vreedenburgh en kunstenaars van nu. Vooral het werk van Gineke Zikken is prachtig. Vergeet ook niet naar het werk van Leo Gestel te kijken.

Klein museum in het gezellige centrum gevestigd in een fraai pand dat ooit dienst deed als stadhuis.
Het is niet heel groot naar er zijn een aantal leuke items te bewonderen. Leuk om te bezoeken als je hier toch bent.

Het pand zelf is al de moeite waard. De vrijwilligers die er aanwezig waren, zijn vriendelijk en weten veel over de stad. een aanrader.

Stadsmuseum Woerden uit 1501 vonden we super gaaf om te bezoeken .
Alles straalt authentieke historie uit .
De schandpaal en ketting met kogel deden niet echt aan subtiele straffen denken, maar zal vast discipline voorgebracht hebben .
De mensen aan de bali waren echt heeeeeel aardig !
Als U bij het Stadsmuseum Woerden langsloopt : Ga naar binnen !

Het stadsmuseum is een prachtig gebouw. Het heeft een rijke historie die rond 1500 begon. Heeft ook al stadhuis gediend.

Buiten Corona tijd misschien leuk, maar nu er maar 2 gezelschappen naar de 2de verdieping mogen is het bezoek van dit museum voornamelijk wachten bij de wenteltrap. Ik zou het nu zeker overslaan

Woerden is a lovely small dutch town in the countryside with a lively city center of shops and cafes. This city museum is a great way to spend an hour as the building itself is historical and then you get interesting rotating exhibits (I was there for a textile exhibit) as well as the history of Romans in the town. Highly recommend.
