Machail Mata temple is a holy place in Paddar area of Kishtwar District of J&K, India. The temple is around 35km from Gulabgarh in Paddar area. The nearest place/village from where trekking on foot starts is Massu around 8 KM from Gulabgarh. The foot trekking is around 27km and the journey of 27km is enjoyable during one month yatra (श्रावण माह ). Lots of devotees are trekking to the route from child to senior citizen.
One can avail chopper service also to reach the Temple in 7 min.
But my opinion is to trek on foot if time and body permits.
It is said that the mata appeared at Mindal, in Pangi, HP and blessings from Machail, Kishtwar, J&K.

Machail Mata, or Chandi Mata, is an important pilgrimage site in Paddar of Kishtwar region of Jammu & Kashmir. Surrounded by the snow clad mountain ranges, it is located at an altitude of 9500 feet. Devotees need to cover a trek route of 30 km on foot to reach the temple from Gulabgarh, the last village connected by the motorable road. Annually, thousands of pilgrims pay visit to the shrine to seek blessings of Mata Machail wali. Infact, the number of pilgrims with each passing year has kept on increasing manifolds. As per legend, Mata Chandi appreared in the form of pindi, the same as it is in Mata Vaisho Devi.

An annual Yatra of Mata Machail held in the month of August. The Yatra starts from Chinoti (Bhaderwah) and ends at Machail at the shrine. This is a two day journey from Atholi via Gulabgarh. Thousands of pilgrims from far and wide places partake in the Yatra to pay obeisance to Mata Chandi.

I was staying in Kishtwar when I got to know about the pilgrimage of Machail mata. I started my journey on road from Kishtwar to gulabgarh. The road journey in itself was mesmerizing as the road traced sapphire like blue Chenab river. After 6 hours we reached Gulabgarh.
Gulabgarh in itself is a beautiful place with Buddhist monasteries, they're very serene and are full of adorable buddhist kids chanting. From Gulabgarh we took a chopper ride to the shrine. It took us around 10 minutes to cover a journey that usually takes around 15 hours on foot.
The Shrine in itself is hauntingly beautiful, it's on top of a mountain and is covered in prayer confetti flags, It gets really cold in the night and we camped at about a kilometer away from the shrine. Once you've visited the machail mata, you can take the spare time and go to the nearby buddhist temples and villages like Haloti . there they sell noodles, momos and Cheese made from Yak's milk which is absolutely delightful .

This Yatra follows Mani Mahesh Yatra and starts with Chari from Gatha in Baderwah and then goes to Vasu ki Nag, Ramtund where it stays for the night and then to Kailash. The Yatra takes place in August and ends on the Kailash Kund. It takes 2 hours to cover the periphery of the Kund. Legend has that Ramtund is a mythological places. Legend has that 7 headed snake is seen in Kund. Another Chari reaches The Kailash Kund from Billawer on the same day when the Baderwah Chari reached the Kund. People from Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur come to join Yatra. After one month the same Chari goes to Asha Pathi and reaches there on the day of Amawas. On this occasion there is Dako folk dance for full nights and people from other communities also participate in these functions...

The miraculous Machail Yatra to the hilly and backward micastudded area of Paddar in district Kishtwar, is really a boon for the suffering humanity. The pilgrimage has revolutionized the action and thoughts of the general public having faith upon the divine mother. The popular Machail Yatra is commencing on 18th of August from its base camp Chota Kashmir, Chinote-Bhaderwah with religious furvour and gaiety by dint of its historical, religious and natural importance.
