My wife and I first visited the castle in 1996 when we stayed in the village. At that time there was very little infrastructure, a ticket kiosk and a small tea shack (which sold the tastiest Carrot Cake we have ever eaten!).
Fast forward to 2023, car park, cafe and a shop!
We are not English Heritage members, but the entry charge and car park charge were reasonable. All staff were polite, friendly and helpful.
There is an audio commentary included, although you may wish to supply your own headphones as otherwise you will be holding it to your ear the whole time.
The cafe supplies good food including ‘light lunches’, but sadly no Carrot Cake this time.
There are some steep steps, but nothing too horrendous.
All in all, an easy 5 out of 5 - well done English Heritage.

One of the least ruined castles under EH and very well supported with information boards, albeit we should have gone for the audio guide which we had at another of the monuments - they are excellent and very easy to use - but we were on a tight time scale! Great views to be had from the top of the keep, but the spiral stairs are very tight and the steps are quite small, so care is required. Add in a very good cafe and the result is a nice way to spend a couple of hours.

English Heritage. Had the electronic reader going round and this was brilliant and made the visit excellent. Why is this not done at every place.
Had reconstruction pictures at each base also, so you could see an artist impression of what it may have looked like and that made it very easy to visualise. So with the information at your ear and the pictures it just brought the whole castle to life

Good day out for a family or just a couple like us with a dog. My wife is partially sighted so was happy to sit in the shade with our pug while I climbed the stairs to the tower and ramparts. The spiral staircase was very dark and had very narrow treads so beware and take it carefully. Had a lovely cup of tea at the cafe afterwards and bought some cherry curd and chocolate.

Great castle to visit! Especially if you are an English Heritage member. Interesting information boards. Free audio guide. Dog friendly. Nice views of the surrounding area. We spent over 1h but you could easily spend longer. Clean toilets nearby. Nice looking cafe but we haven't tried it.

We arrived after an hour and a half journey to be turned away at the car park. We asked where we could go to park and the attended was most unhelpful. We were instructed to turn round and leave but as we made our way to do so, someone came out of a space, so we slipped in.
When we paid our entry fees the man on the till asked if we wanted to do Gift Aid. He never mentioned that an extra 10% would be added to our bill. Very misleading and not explained.
The reenactment was great and we had a lovely soup in the cafe.
Just felt cheated about the extra price as we are on a tight budget and we have to consider carefully any extras.

My family and I visited Goodrich Castle on the spur of the moment but we really enjoyed it. An audio tour is included in the admission price, which is well worth a listen but the contact points for this were not always reliable or easy to work. None the less it helps give some context to what you are looking at! An interesting castle with an interesting history, and some beautiful views.

A bit pricey - unless you’re an English Heritage member! - but a lovely castle close to a quiet village. It is relatively big, and we spent two hours here. For that length of time the price is quite steep. We went on a Saturday, and unsurprisingly it was very busy, so if you can go on a weekday then do so. The information within the castle itself is good, but the real strength here is the audio-guide - it’s free, so do pick it up at reception as it elevates the experience.

Such an amazing place to visit. Recommend that you use the audio taut which is so interesting. Full of history and intrigue.

We visited with a 5 year old field lab, he loved it and so did we, we were allowed to take him into the tea room as he is very well trained and it was raining heavily and we wanted food as well as hot drinks, it was quiet and one we took his hi-viz coat off he stayed under my chair the whole time, he made it round several other castles and sites during our trip, always on his lead ofcourse

Winter hours (October through to March) are weekends only 10am - 3pm (ish).
Open during the weekdays of half terms in the winter.
