Just spent the last 2 days completing my RYA power boat Level 2 with a group and had a great time. Pete and Ian really are first class instructors with years of experience between them and are all round nice guys, they made the learning fun and informative with lots of time for me to ask questions.
Will definitely return to them to attend some other courses later this year.

My son and I did the RYA Level 2 course with Ian. The course itself was very informative, giving a good grounding in safety, charts, navigation and all you'd expect. However Ian goes beyond this with many illustrative stories which make the the course interesting and fun.
The 'classroom' is a very comfortable cruiser with toilets and refreshments (tea and biscuits) - the day is split with morning being theory and afternoon practice out on the RIB.
The length of the course and the pace were perfect. Ian has a very easy manner and was the perfect teacher. It also helped that the weather was very kind.

Fantastic two days of learning to complete the motor boat level 2 license. Pete and Ian, who delivered the course are exceptional. The classroom theory (which is done in a beautiful luxury boat) was very clearly explained and the practical side was an enjoyable mix of serious and fun.

Just completed the Power boat level 2 course with Pete. Thoroughly enjoyable 2 days and even with the weather against us Pete managed to get us out practicing all the drills without feeling rushed.
The theory was all delivered clearly with sketches and diagrams to bring it to life and there was plenty of time for questions.
For anyone starting out and feeling a bit lost about what they should know, I’d highly recommend this course as a great place to start.

Really excellent two days completing the RYA Powerboat L2 with Pete. Bought this for both of us as a gift for my husbands birthday. We often hire a boat on holiday and keep mulling over the idea of buying our own. Pete was a terrific teacher of the theory and the practical. Perfectly pitched for husband who had a bit of experience and answered multiple questions from me as a novice. Clearly a guy with years of experience, he could give you an anecdote to make everything you are learning real.
Theory completed in his very comfortable cruiser in the mornings and practical driving on the RIB after lunch. Totally talked us through all aspects of parking, rescue, turning. Didn’t try to take over if we went wrong, just patiently talked us through how to put it right.
We both really enjoyed the two days. Have come home and started looking online to see what we can afford!! Thanks for your time Pete!

I can’t recommend Essex powerboat school enough. The level 2 powerboat instructor Ian was amazing. He went above and beyond to make it enjoyable and was the perfect teacher.

I just completed the Powerboat Level 2 course with Pete and Ian. The course was great and they are brilliant at explaining everything and having patience when I didn’t know what I was doing. My husband has driven small boats on holiday but I am always “the crew” so completely inexperienced at driving, the course was the perfect balance to be interesting and teach both of us something new.
We don’t have our own boat and plan to use our license to hire boats when on holiday abroad so don’t feel that you have to be a boat owner to do this course - Pete and Ian are great whatever your knowledge or ability the only problem is now my husband wants to buy a boat and to do more courses 😂

Fantastic course! Everything we expected and more, my wife and I had a brilliant time doing the course together and now both feel confident to take our own boat out! We will definitely be using Pete and the team in the future. Keep up the good work guys

Ian and Pete were a great team dividing up theory and practice in a perfect way. The two das were great. We had a mix of abilities in each group of three and they were both able to split their time and adapt brilliantly to ensure that everyone had a real chance to improve, gain confidence and invaluable skills. It also really helped as someone considering getting a boat and investing further that they were both really open to answering questions and queries beyond the standard curriculum that give a really strong insight into life afloat.
