Went here 3 September 2023 on a specific wildlife safari. People had been seeing dragonflies there in late summer. It was well worth the trip. One BIG dragonfly flew on up the path and was flying at tree-top height. I was running to try to keep up. It went quite a distance from the pond. I never got a close-up look, but local wildlife expert Linda Thompson says it was probably a common hawker. Very impressive body length and wingspan.
More cooperative were the smaller red ones she said looked like common darters. They were good enough to land on the wooden railings by the pool and sit there as I took photos. At times pairs would literally hook up, with the male holding the female's neck with pincers at the tip of his abdomen. They flew in tandem, joined together, as she punched her abdomen into the water to lay eggs. I stood and watched for quite some time. Remarkable behaviour to see.
Whitehead Diamond Jubilee Wood is open all day, all year round. I’ve even walked here at night, hoping to see frogs. Its free to visit. There’s a large, free car park by the building for Bentra Municipal Golf Course, off Slaughterford Road. There’s a Motorhome Aire De Service point in that car park. The wood can be found at the end of a long foot path that starts up where The Fuzzy Beak restaurant is. The path goes between the main road and the fence of Bentra Municipal Golf Course.

Went for a walk around Diamond Jubilee Wood and it is a charming little woodland with lovely sculptures, community orchards, historical monuments, information boards and lovely little pond tucked in the far corner where the ducks come to feed. The woodland is even bigger than I originally thought as the main trails conceal the true vastness of the this young and growing woodland, so it you have time and good outdoor footwear explore some of the woodland trails that very few people explore while in the woodland park. Give it another 20 years and this will be some impressive woodland park for the Whitehead area. There only issue I have is the car park is situated 10 minutes walk away from the park and the vast cage surrounding the golf course next door feels somewhat intrusive for the woodland surroundings.

The kids love this place, it's full of hidden surprises. Those people from lighthouse yarns head out here and hide all these wooly characters in the trees and bushes. One year it was squid and fish and octopus tentacles, so funny. Great for a walk in the fresh air any time of year, there's a pond and exercise machines too.

Although I live local I had yet to walk here but now I have, it is a regular event with my dog. Totally safe place to walk dog and kept clean and tidy. Was please to see no dog mess too which was pleasant.

I love taking my dog here regularly, no mater what the weather is like it's a nice escape in lovely surrounding especially when the local craft groups display all their lovely things around the trees and hedgerow.

The name is a little misleading at this stage as the wood is very young and planted within the last few years. However, don't let that stop you from going. It is a safe country walk perfect for my toddler and I. The wood offers two walks , one shorter and one longer. It is lovely to have a walk away from traffic and it allows you to enjoy the views of the countryside.

Great walk starting at Bentra Car Park, venue includes 60,000 trees including a fruit tree orchard, a 2km of path network, a 1000sqm pond, a Commonwealth Tree Avenue planted with copper beech; wildflower meadows, picnic area and a sculpture designed by artist Kevin Killen and local school children. Whitehead Diamond Jubilee Wood is one of the 'flagship woods' and the only Diamond Jubilee Wood in Northern Ireland. In total 60 Diamond Jubilee Woods have been planted throughout the UK.

Went here because we had heard that there were frogs spawning in the small pond out here. To our disappointment it was all over, so it`s just for a couple of days that they do this.! ? On a very blowy day it was still a most pleasant day to be walking in this wood where the trees have grown to a fair size since it was established 5 years ago. I was told from a reliable source, that the Diamond Jubilee Wood has been put forward as a nature reserve.

Went for something specific: to see spawning frogs. The wood did not disappoint, I saw several of the amorous amphibians. In different seasons this place provides different natural wonders. Warning: this was a sunny February day, but I knew to come in Wellington boots. There were muddy patches, and even great pools of water in places, on the approach path, and around the lake on site. When I say "great pool" I mean only something an inch deep, and a couple of feet across, but that's enough that I don't want to try to jump across it!
