Friends in Canberra told me to go visit. Court was in session with full bench in Court 1 and I was able to go in and watch it in action. Especially interesting that the judges were all over the law and nailed the barrister a couple times wiht some very detailed questions on specific things. Had a long chat with of the staff upstairs and she provided a lot of information on the courts and the building.

The High Court is the most important court in Australia. Its most important role is to decide on questions of constitutional law. The building is impressive, you may be able to have a look around when the Court is not sitting. It is also the final court of appeal on criminal matters.

We didn't really expect much when visiting, but to our surprise we had 2 free tours which explained the High Court in very interesting terms. The visit was fairly short but a great way to finish our day of sightseeing. Try it - you will be pleasantly surprised.

The High Court sits in an impressive building on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. The High Court is Australia's supreme court, it rules on important cases, including cases relating to the Australian Constitution. It is usually possible to gain entry to the courtroom.

The building itself is 42 years old and still impressive sitting on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. We did not go inside but with extra planning should have.

One of Canberra’s best kept visitor secrets. We were not sure if the building was open for visitors but were able to enter and listen to the talk by the guide in Court 1-excellent and informative. Free entry. There is also an Info Centre about the Constitution but this was closed. Great way to spend an hour. Next door to the Portrait Gallery and close walk to Old Parliament House (when it reopens).

If you are interested in law and how the High Court is run it is a very interesting place to visit. We were able to ask questions and find out more about how the High Court runs.

The building is 40 years old and retains its sound contemporary architectural merit...its an exciting building. The main court is imposing and the building is well worth a visit.

Having 1-hour spare I was pleased to be able to visit the High Court for a one on one guide of Court 1, the Court dealing with Constitution matters. The wonderful guide took the time to give an overview of the history and workings of the court. Portraits on the ground floor of previous judges, then a quick trip upstairs to the other courts and to rest in the leather chairs. A nice building with welcoming staff, worth a visit
