Escape Room: "A Temporal Tangle"
By: The Enigma Room
Location: Sydney
Last played: June 27, 2020
Escaped: Yes, but 2-3 minutes overtime. So no.
Description:
The Future Directions Bureau sent their top agent (code name Fox) on a crucial mission in the 21st century to preserve the timeline. However, Agent Fox has now disappeared from the time stream. Enemy action is suspected - it’s up to you to trace his whereabouts and save the future.
Creativity of puzzles: 8 out of 10
Atmosphere: 4 out of 10
Difficulty: 7 out of 10
Fun: 9 out of 10
My tip: You gotta rearrange them in a sort which you think will make sense.”
Comments:
The theme of the escape room (time-travel) doesn’t match that well with the atmosphere inside the room. But this is the most jampacked escape room I have experienced when it comes to the number of puzzles so far, and I had fun trying to solve all of them. Though many, the puzzles are also really feasible to solve by an average guy if he really tries to think them through. So somehow, its puzzles are above average when it comes to difficulty.
There won’t be any situation you’ll get stuck too long in one puzzle because the moderator is messaging you to help you using the provided iPad device in the room.
The escape room doesn’t have a built-in countdown timer, so you have to look at your iPad device every time-check.
The room is narrative-heavy. I didn’t get the story that much when we get through the puzzles (the puzzles have in-story texts) because I was too focused on the clues. That’s why the ending was kind of fuzzy. Feel free to consume your time understanding the story while in the game. But regardless of fuzziness, the ending was kinda cheesy as well.

This was our inaugural visit to an escape room , and I had specifically chosen The Enigma Room given its reviews. Our team/family consisted of myself, my wife and our two young adult daughters, and we had chosen "A Temporal Tangle" for our challenge. The experience was great! We were welcomed and briefed on the game promptly by the staff and made it through the challenge with one push hint via our iPad that is provided to participants. I commend The Enigma Room on its ideas and stories and the overall professionalism in their welcome and debriefing of guests. Overall, I would rate this as a perfect introduction to the escape room experience.

I've been to around 12 escape rooms all over Sydney, and so far me and my friends have agreed that this is our favourite experience. A member of staff is gamesmastering your room exclusively, so if you need a clue or even have technical difficulties, they'll know about it and be ready to help. We found the staff friendly and had a great energy, so would definitely recommend. The puzzles were also extremely unique and very varied, so your not just decoding lock after lock. Overall, fantastic experience!

We had a teenagers party here and Enigma compares very well to some of the other escapee's rooms my kids have done.
They did the room with 1minute to spare so they were very happy to include themselves as above average.
The games master was well spoken and friendly with a bunch of kids some of whom were a little apprehensive and she did well to explain clue prompting if needed. The passive aggressive approach sounded clever "I'll ask you if you need a clue because I think you need one or if you are headed in the wrong direction.
Right near Town Hall station so really well located.

I did the In Memoriam one first with a group of 3. That one was really good, some nice puzzles and minimal help.
The second time I did doctor disaster wasn't as good. The puzzles were easier but the most annoying this was the amount of hints we were given. We started off in hard mode but as we were a bit slow at the start they started to give us clues which was nice because sometimes you need one to get rolling. However, after that, every time we didn't get a puzzle on the first go or were taking our time trying to look around and figure things out ourselves (or when we had just discovered a puzzle), they would bombard us with hints we never asked for. These hints essentially gave us the answers which was annoying because we had figured it out ourselves or were just about to figure it out had they given us a minute more.
We ended up finishing the escape room in 45 minutes but it felt very rushed and was unsatisfying because they gave us most of the answers even though we didn't ask for them. Would have preferred they just give us a clue when we asked even if it meant we wouldn't get out in 60 minutes.

The room we did was "In Memoriam". The progression was linear, and had some good puzzles. There were some high tech mechanisms that did not involve the standard lock. However, some puzzles were simple, a bit cheap, giving you that 'facepalm' moment

First time my friend and I had ever done an escape room, so we can’t compare Enigma-Memorium to others, but we had an awesome time. Lots of puzzles, good difficulty level (glad we got hints tho!) and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to do another one!

Been to a couple of escape rooms in different countries and I have to say that this is one of the better ones. Puzzles are complex but solvable. I love how hints are still ‘puzzly’ and not ‘give-aways.’ The rooms are large. Truly fun and entertaining. Highly recommended!

This was my first escape room experience and it didn’t disappoint. The hosts are lovely and we had a great GM who stepped in and gave us hints just when we needed. We played In Memoriam - the story is great and they also give you a background of what’s happened before you enter the room. The decor is a bit simple and not very exciting, there are no special effects of any kind but the puzzles are thoughtfully designed and are interesting and creative. Really makes you think outside the box.
And yes, we escaped!

The escape room was fun and challenged us! Good for groups small or large. Would definitely suit experienced escape room players and also first time players. Highly recommend

Do you allow one stranger to join an incomplete group?

Hi there, we normally only run private games where people only play with their own booked groups. If you'd like us to canvas some groups to see if they'd allow another person to join, please get in touch with us via our Contact Us page.
Cheers,

What happens if you can't get the clues and can't get out of the room. Have 2 14 year olds and 2 OAP's

Hi pamalan4,
When you play at The Enigma Room you have a dedicated game master who's watching over the game to make sure that you get help when you need it.
You can configure the amount of help you get (to make the game more challenging) before you start. But in general the game master is there to provide assistance so that you're not stuck unnecessarily.
We try to provide enough assistance so that you have a really good shot at getting out in time, we won't just leave you hanging at a very early stage of the room. That said, the game is still a challenge and some people don't complete it in time. If that happens, don't worry, you won't be locked in forever. Your game master will come in and let you know how close you came and help you through the rest of the room. If they're feeling generous they may throw in a couple of extra minutes if you're really close.
You also don't have to worry about the game not being suitable or too hard/easy for the members of your group. Our game design is targeted at people of all ages and doesn't rely on any prior knowledge.
Hope that helps, please let us know if you have any further questions.

Hi Jenny, the answer from Thislifelistee is pretty much right.
We constantly monitor the games so that you can be sure that you will not get stuck unnecessarily. The kids will enjoy it because it's a hands on experience with lots of things to solve in the room to keep them occupied.
You don't have to worry about any mature or scary themes as our themes are more sci-fi / comedy.
In terms of difficulty, the games are challenging so you can't just sit back and let the kids do all the work, you'll need to get involved as well.
Please contact us if you have any further questions.
Thanks!
