Fantastic experience from start to finish. Sheldon picked us up from our hotel and fully briefed us on what to expect, including safety precautions. John the pilot was very knowledgeable and made us feel completely safe at all times. Flying high above the outback was breathtaking and topped off with bubbly & snacks once we'd landed and helped pack the balloon away. Thoroughly recommended!

Outstanding!!! Perfect time of the day to watch sunrise followed by the balloon launch. Great altitude, perfect photo opportunities all the way to landing followed by a champagne toast.

The team was great and the flight was very relaxed with lots of information.
The landing was exciting as we came up on the site. It was very fun and definitely not dangerous.
Finally, there was 'historical' before the sparkling wine. An all-round great experience.

The tour is very well organised. Great communication and easy pick up from accommodation. The balloon ride at sunset was amazing. Views beyond words. Friendly staff and a lovely sip of bubbly after the flight. Definitely recommend!

We paid for an hour but because majority of people paid for 1/2 hour they decided to run 1 balloon with 22 people crammed in for 1/2 hour instead of 2 balloons.
They didn’t stay up high for long at all, we mainly flew about 20 feet above trees.
Shame the wind decided to go in direction where there was nothing but sand and trees, no wildlife. If we had flown out of different location we may have at least gone over Alice Springs etc.
No onboard cameras for pictures either.

We are very sorry to hear that you were disappointed Samantha. We definitely do not “cram” people in our balloons, the manufacturer and CASA specifies the maximum number allowed in each different size balloon which we strictly adhere to. I have checked the day that you flew, and the balloon capacity was 24 and there were in fact only 22 passengers on board. Balloon baskets are by design compact and people should be aware that as you are all standing, there is not going to be a lot of ‘personal’ space.
As you mention, ballooning is completely reliant on the wind therefore the pilot will ascend and descend throughout the flight to enable him to 'steer' using the wind speed and direction at different heights. All our flight paths are recorded and your flight was at a height of 2,265 feet above the ground for the first 15 mins (and we usually only fly within the first 1,000 feet) before the pilot needed to descend the balloon to around 50-100 feet due to the weather conditions for the remainder of the flight. We will always try to fly what passengers’ book but the weather can change during the flight so the pilot will make the decision to land earlier to ensure the safety of his passengers which is what happened on the morning of your flight. The flight duration recorded was 40 minutes and we only charged passengers for a 30 minute flight.
The weather conditions in Alice Springs do not allow us to fly over Alice Springs or the MacDonnell Ranges and I am not sure what you expected to see but most people do enjoy our amazing early morning skies, the views of the MacDonnell Ranges and the vast red desert landscape that we fly over.

Is there any way an older person with knee issues would be able to get in & out of the basket? My mother is keen to book a trip but is hesitant due to the challenge faced by getting into/out of the basket. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Leah, thank you for your enquiry. All passengers must be able to climb up and in to the basket unaided using the footholes in the basket. The basket height is approx 1.2 metres high. Hi, we are thinking of booking the 30 minute flight for our short trip to Alice Springs in August, what are the approximate times for pick up and drop off? Since our visit is very short we would also like to plan something else for that afternoon, but that depends what time we will be back.

We took an early morning flight like Tony, timeline the same. I believe that they do late afternoon / early evening flight. Their minibus goes around the hotels collecting the guests, then takes them to the departure point (middle of nowhere). We then watched them setup & inflate the balloon. The flight took over an hour. Then you help them to deflate the balloon and pack it away. Then its champagne & nibbles. Great experience.
Whatever you do in AS have a great time.

Hi Ruth, thanks for your enquiry. Pickup times varies throughout August and also depends on where you are staying in town, but as a guide it would be between 5-6am. The return time again depends on the above as well but you would expect to be back in town between 9-10am at the latest. We look forward to taking you on our flight. Regards Outback Ballooning.
