Not far out of town and is sign posted.
A short walk over good ground to the site. In November there isn’t a lick of water in the river so you could walk the bed although not easy under foot.
Not too busy in November with just some instagrammers hanging around.
Worth a quick visit along with some other areas of the range.

This was part of an afternoon tour from the Ghan train. Andy our guide was amazing. He was so knowledgeable and told us so much about the area. Beautiful scenery. Very peaceful. Worth a visit.

This attraction is the first stop on west McDonnel ranges tour. It's natural wonders that Gap with water flow among red rusty rock mountains and it's chznce to see rock wallabee ,esp. In late afternoon shen the temperature of the day cools down.

wanted to come here to find the wallabies but the road leading to it is closed in mid Aug due to nearby bush fire. hope that will end soon

Got to carpark around 9am. Light on west face great. Water in pool. Not many people.
Then went for 2 hour hike up to Hat Hill saddle.
Lunched at the shady picnic area. Free gas bbq’s available.
Did the 15 minute walk to the old Ghost Gum by the entrance station.
Finished up around 1:30

This is one of the best natural experiences in the area. It is a short 20 minute walk there and back and so picturesque.

Thank goodness I had my face net, the flies were abominable.
Thirty nine degrees when we set off.
Uphill most of the way to the gorge with frequent stops for photographs.
Well worth the twenty minute walk to the gorge then back to the cafe for an ice cream!

would like to know what the walking terrain is at Simpsons Gap?? I am getting over a broken ankle ( walking now with minimum of discomfort )and I always walk in well supported walking shoes .

It's pretty flat & sandy so you should be right in your walking shoes, enjoy.

I'm staying at Chifley Hotel. How far is Simpson Gap? If we don't hire a car, can you catch public transport or taxi?

Simpsons Gap is 25 km more or less far from your hotel, but I do not know if it is possible to go with a public transport, most probably there are taxis, but I do not know the price of these... The visit is very recommendable! Do it! :-)
