Dropped into this monumental-looking edifice while walking around the cultural precinct simply because I saw a sign saying there was an exhibition about neon on the second floor. Not huge but a bit of fun and worth a few minutes of your time if you like neon lights - and who doesn't.

This is an interesting building and we walked here on a wet day. There was an interesting portrait exhibition and the shop is good.

Situated on the Brisbane River and walking distance from the South Bank ferry terminal. I always visit libraries when visiting cities as they can contain some really interesting collections. On Level 4 in the Philip Bacon Heritage Gallery there is an exhibition called ‘Extraordinary stories’ which has some interesting items including a braille map of Australia. At time of writing there was also the Brisbane Portrait Prize exhibition which is similar to the Archibald and worth checking out. And the best thing is that everything is free. It is definitely worth a visit if you are in Brisbane.

I have been a SLQ member since 2011. I love coming to this library and use their pcs there when the internet is crap at my current home location.
I have yet to visit the exhibitions on Floors 2 to 4 which I have not done yet.

This library was very spacious with beautiful modern looking architecture. It was very quiet for being a public library.

We decided to see the 'Qld to a T' exhibition through their T-towels display & we were pleasantly surprised. We enjoyed looking back over time through the various T-towels displayed...who could forget Joh & Flo Bjelke Petersen for a laugh or two?

The library was wonderful. We checked out the Mabo exhibit and the amazing “The Great and Grand Rumpus” exhibit which held us fascinated for ages. Incredible job by the children, and adults.

We attended the Great and Grand Rumpus exhibition currently showing at the State Library. 5 stars for sure. The exhibition curator, Daniel, was very lively and knowledgeable. It was a pleasure to walk around this exhibition with his insight. Would highly recommend to all ages and we will probably attend again before it finishes in April.

What an extraordinary building and a shame that I did not know of the guided tours when visiting. I read that the Library "sets a benchmark for State Libraries within Australia and the Southern hemisphere" and the guided tour takes visitors on a comprehensive journey through most levels. I could easily immerse myself for at least a day browsing the various collections that reflect Queensland's history and heritage. The ladies at Reception were most helpful with one vacating her seat to give me an enthusiastic description of facilities and things to see within the building. In hindsight, I should have remained in the building in lieu of visiting the Gallery of Modern Art. As I was leaving, on Bodhi Tree Terrace, I noticed the ghost gum, planted in 2009 as a sapling from the historic Tree of Knowledge, Barcaldine, which was a 200-year-old Corymbia aparrerinja ghost gum poisoned in 2006.

Beautiful architecture that was kept as is since the construction date. All of the shelves are ordered neatly, the staff is highly knowledgable, and the library is excellent!
