A great experience ... once I think.

I chose the RailBed option. Facilities and service were great onboard; staff were helpful and friendly. Meals were delivered to your seat, and the quality was ok. Timetable punctuality was hampered by electrical problems and breakdowns, but we arrived at the destination 40 minutes late after making up 50 minutes overall.
Carry on baggage racks, shower, and toilets are available at the end of each car. Guests get a small kit of sanitiser, lip balm and facecloth. Sheet, doona, towel, and blankets are provided. It would be good if Queensland Rail gave each guest earplugs and an eye mask to help you sleep.

Booking dissappontment

Today I rang up to book seats for June as previously advised by this company as the bookings were closed to only 3 months out.
I wanted rail beds and was told the were sold out, how I asked? only been open one a day. But then told it’s been open For a while. But I was Was told to subscribe to your website to wait for the info to come out about bookings, no email,and no seats left at all !
We are so disappointed as we were really looking forward to this journey and now have to fly ☹️
Can’t believe the amount of disinformation I’ve received and now missed out entirely. Clearly they have more important customers other than us Queenslanders.

Would recommend as a once only

The trip was enjoyable. The staff and services was also very good.. Personally, the last 3 hours were the hardest.. very slow and long… the beds folded flat which was comfortable however it would have been better to allow them to recline so you could lie with your head elevated… a good thing at to see the countryside however it is a journey more suited to flying

Fab trip by train

Booked a trip by train from Brisbane to Cairns. What a journey. Try to book early to get a bed as it was a comfortable way to spend the 25 hours. It was also great value.

There is a dining car to go and sit in if you want to. The staff were very welcoming and nothing too much trouble.

Poor service, eventually cancelled

Hopelessly disorganised customer service who responded to my booking query four months after I’d booked, then refused to telephone me because I was not in Australia-unacceptable!!! If they take your money from abroad they should provide the service. The train was eventually cancelled at short notice. Holiday spoiled. No compensation.

Unreliable, regular bus replacements, timetable changes

Ive lost count how many times Ive had problems with this service. For a very long distance service, the number of cancellations, reschedulings and bus replacements is appalling. Today I missed my 8.35am departure from Cairns because it was rescheduled to 7am. And so are all the current departures. The online timetable still states 8.35am so why didnt the booking officer in the call centre warn me. Why arent there big bold letters on your ticket correspondence warning of changed times. Sure, 7am was there on the ticket in tiny little numbers. But no additional warning of the change. The staff at the coalface are almost always nice. But the overall operation is very unreliable, disruptive and always feels like the customer is the least important consideration. I had to buy a Greyhound ticket which was more comfortable and of critical importance, reliable and timely.

Highly to recommend, very relaxing

We really enjoyed our trip from Cairns to Townsville.
We left on time at 8.40 am from Cairns.
very relaxing trip.
It departs Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from Cairns.
Great comfortable seats, similar to Premium economy on Planes with heaps of legroom and good entertainment.
Drinks and Food are not expensive on Board and toilets are clean.
Explorer fares are a good deal, so are Seniors discounts.
One day we will do the Sleeper to Brisbane.

Overnight Train to Cairns

What a great way to travel to Cairns from Brisbane on this train make sure you book the first class sleeper chairs included is dinner, breakfast and lunch.
Staff were friendly and very helpful.

My wife and I travelled from Canberra to experience this Rail Journey. The Sleeper service, smoothness of the journey and the staff on board were excellent. The staff were were very welcoming, helpful and mindful of our dietary needs. We would like to come back again.
