Please be warned that Lake Crosbie is not a place to go because of the bees. We could not sit outside to enjoy a cup of tea without bees up our noses, mouths, food, and our van. We found other campers, who were hiding in their tents because of the bees, had used repellent which only worked for 15 minutes. There was no point in staying, we were being swarmed so after an hour we left. Why isn't there a warning on the website about the bees? it would have saved us from driving 100 km out of our way to see the Lakes, which honestly, were not spectacular. I would easily say that the amount of bees is dangerous, especially if you have a bee allergy. Stay away, it is not worth it.

Easily accessible (was in an AWD). 3 pink lakes. Lake hardy is supposed to be the pinkest. There's no water in it at the moment but take care as in some places your foot can sink in to the salt crust of the lake. Mildly pink today. There are bathrooms at Lake Crosbie campground. Didn't see another person whilst there!

This is one of the most remote places I’ve been inside Victoria. You must let the ranger know if you want a reliable water source at the 3 camps. There is no water elsewhere so you need to assure this.
The hike includes soft sand with rolling dunes, many traces and tracks of reptiles and unfortunately cats.
The trail is easy to follow, we didn’t use the map or the compass. We certainly had these in our packs but was easily navigable.
If you want somewhere away from the hustle and bustle this will certainly provide this.

This is truly a beautiful place and worth a visit. I would you suggest you either take a tour as we did (Murray Off Road Adventures) or use a 4 x 4 if it has rained recently as the tracks can be difficult in parts. Make sure you have plenty of water and a full tank of petrol as our guides actually found someone who had run out of petrol and had been stranded for 3 days without water or a phone signal.
The pink salt lakes are amazing and we were lucky to see both Eastern Greys and Red Kangaroos and well as Lizards and birds. When you arrive at the point where the road splits there is a large hand painted sign pointing you into the correct direction. Go early as the temperature can hit the 40C.

Excellent park. As the state border were closed (again) we chose to see this park which is most sensibly reached by 4wd. The salt lakes are fascinating and the abundance of Red and Grey Kangaroos was fascinating. We went with Pete and Jean Kelly who offer a great day out.

It’s a bit of a drive to get to this beautiful park but so worth it. The road’s pretty good so don’t worry if you don’t have a 4x4. There are some easy walks around the beautiful pink lakes when you get there and the photo opportunities are endless. You can camp in the park and the longest hike goes for about three days but you can also visit for a couple of hours. Stunning!

This is an arid desert area where the environment is relatively untouched and quite magnicient with its vast wide-open landscapes and views of arid desert and pink salt lakes. This is the largest National Park in Victoria and is typical of the Mallee outback. Access to the Pink Lakes is via a dirt track suitable for 2WD from the Mallee Highway (B12) at Linga about 60 km west from Ouyen. Take the Pioneer Drive which is well signed for the views of Lake Hardy and Crosby. There are some interesting relics from the salt mining days but go for the great views of the pink salt lakes and the arid terrain.

We did a day trip from Mildura starting at Nowingi track, past old gypsum hopper, morning tea at Rocket Lake - no water, not an overly interesting stop. Lunch at Mt Crozier and then down to Pink Lakes. Saw lots of kangaroos, lots of birds, including an elusive Mallee fowl. Would have liked to walk around Lake Harding but ran out of time as light was fading and still had a 1.5 hr drive back to Mildura but thoroughly enjoyed our day out. Finding beauty everywhere in the most unexpected places. Need 4WD.
Will definitely go back and do another area of the park next time we are up that way - it is so big!

We visited the pink lakes a couple of times over 5 years. The first it was rainy and the second time it was sunny. The lakes looked more pink in cloudy days.
There are a few pink salt lakes in close vicinity. Lake Hardy is the first one you see and you can walk around all of them if you have the time. We saw people swim in one of the bigger lakes too (Lake Becking).

Absolutely loved our stop at the Murray-Sunset National Park a few days ago. A couple of hours was enough for us to enjoy 3 of the 4 pink lakes and take a track for a bit of fairly easy 4wding. Great set up, beautiful location for a few photos, and info boards well located.

We will be staying in Mildura for a couple of days and would like to visit Murray Sunset National Park. We only have a 2 wheel drive, are there any drives we could take?

Mallee tours have full and half day tours into Murray Sunset plus many other local tours around that Parks, give us a call next time you or your friends are passing through Ouyen, see us also on Facebook or google
