Rather than just walk down the steps we walked from Zumsteins carpark all along the river past Fish Falls and on to MacKenzie Falls. Seeing the falls from the bottom straight away was brilliant. It's a good 3 hour walk, but flatish and well worth it.

Spectacular falls

We walked from Zumsteins, past Fish Falls and on toMcKenzie Falls. Spectacular walk and views but very difficult. We decided the return walk would be too hard so set off on the 6 km road return. Luckily we were picked up by 3 lovely ladies and ropped back at Zumsteins.

Well worth the climb back up !

A very beautiful spot and lunch stop! Quite an easy walk down...starts with a proper path and then ends with over 200 steps! But well worth it at the bottom! Quite a large area to sit / walk round and view the falls and pool but it does get v busy down there! .. the climb back up is strenuous as the signs say and the steps are steep and very slippery when it's a bit wet! so be aware before going down! there are several rest spots on the way back up if needed . there is a large accessible carpark at the site with good toilet facilities and several picnic huts too...only dissapoinment was parents letting very young children swim in the pool dispite multiple warning signs that it's very dangerous and many people have drowned there.

Simply beautiful

We headed down the 260 strenuous steps to see the falls and it was well worth it. The sounds, the smells, the serenity of nature was brilliant. The falls can be viewed from above for those with mobility challenges. After we sat and admired we ventured onto Fish Falls which was a lovely walk. Be mindful that the journey back up the steps does get the heart rate up for young and old but you can stop to catch your breath.

Lovely waterfall

Parked at the main carpark and followed the walk down to the falls. The down is easy but be careful on wet steps. The view at the bottom is amazing! The walk back up is quite steep definitely gets the heart rate up but there are a few areas you can move off to the side to rest.

Impressive falls.

This is obviously a must when travelling to the Grampians. From the main MacKenzie Falls carpark, its a relatively short walk to a look out where you can see the falls. You then have the option to walk down hundreds of steep steps to the bottom of the falls. There you can cross the rive to get a stunning view of the entire falls.

We then followed a trail 2km to fish falls. The path was relatively flat, and there was only one path, so very difficult to get lost.

Apparently you can also access MacKenzie falls by parking at Fish falls, and walking the 2km to MacKenzie falls. This would be a good idea, despite having to walk 2km there and back, you do not have to walk up and down the treacherous steps.

Try to go at a time in the day (not sure what time) when the sun isn't glaring into your eyes when looking at the falls, as that not only hurts your eyes, but ruins any opportunity of a good photo.

This isn't a pool to swim in!

Haven't been here for a long time but sure worth the walk down. There's a metal hand rail to support your body all the way down,a few steps and flat path way at the start and ahead. Lots of water running here, it's quite spectacular and rewarding to sit down there and feel refreshed.
Please don't swim 🏊 there as many have drowned in the pass, it's not safe at all!! Obey the signs! Just enjoy it's beauty.

There is a couple of different walks to see the waterfalls, with the one down to the bottom of the waterfall been quite steep, not for the faint hearted, but a couple of lookouts around to see the waterfalls from. It can also be very busy. But overall, it is quite impressive and worthwhile the visit.

Worth a look

We were too old/too tired/too hot to walk all the way down to the falls but the set up is great with a graded wheelchair accessible walk to some great viewing spots of this waterfall. It's certainly worth a look.
