Absolutely horrendous! How do you injure your customers and then leave them to fend for themselves!!

Day started out quite nice, easy ride out, lovely scenery, and a nice lunch. That all changed on the ride back to the wharf.
The sea was quite rough on the way back in and Kurt, the skipper, took off at full speed without any warning. Not everyone was properly seated and 1 person was using the head. My partner was near the stairs to the tower standing as he hadn't gotten a chance to sit before Kurt took off full tilt and when we hit a particularly rough wave the entire boat went airborne. My partner hit the roof and then came back down landing on his feet and breaking his right heel. Kurt barely even slow down. I gave my partner my seat and sat on the floor as quickly as possible to avoid meeting the same fate. The skipper continued at this speed for the entire trip back, even with passengers vomiting and not having secure seating (he has a license for 12 passengers according to his website and there were 13 plus himself on the boat that day). He never once slowed down to check on anyone's safety. Once back at the wharf on Sandspit he wouldn't help my partner off the boat, file an incident report or administer 1st aid. He told my partner it was just a mild sprain and to harden up. 2 months later his broken heel is still not fully healed and this sad excuse for an operator has never reached out and made sure he was okay or expressed remorse in any way. Don't go unless your okay with potentially being injured for months!

The trip out of sandspit was extremely pleasant looking at the surrounding views off the beautiful coastline and islands surrounded by a beautiful blue sea was a highlight in itself . As we neared Little Barrier we came across a pod of dolphins which Kurt said usually happens and stopped the boat to give us amble time to enjoy this wonderful encounter . He occasional added a commentary along the way about the history of the area and little Barrier Island and importance of the Island to NZ. We then cruised around the Island into sheltered bay where the water was crystal clear and this is where we had our time in the sea snorkeling , kayaking , stand up paddle boards and lunch . Our fellow travelers where a mixed range of ages most did everything on offer and a couple where happy just to stay on board the boat and enjoy the views , chill out or sunbath . The water temperature was cool but as you would expect so far out at sea but with wet suits it was bearable and most stayed for at least 45 minutes in the water .The highlights where many but the snorkeling was the standout attraction and the amount of marine life to see .Kurt was a fantastic host who loves to share knowledge and love of the area and what it has to offer .

A fun, relaxing trip to Little Barrier Island. We kayaked, snorkeled & paddle boarded. Kurt was very informative, the food was good and it was a fun day.

We had a great day out with Kurt at the Mokahinau Islands. Such a stunning spot! Kurt is very knowledgeable and spots wildlife miles away!

An awesome day out and not only did we go to Little Barrier but Great Barrier too. The weather wasn't the best but Kurt made it a memorable day in so many ways. From giving us the opportunity to reschedule or even our money back if we preferred because it would be a bit of a rough ride. He was awesome in always checking we were all comfortable, even stopping along the way to do so and once in sheltered bays, those who wished could snorkel, swim, kayak and paddle board. I myself didn't do any of the above because I mainly came along to take photos but my husband had a ball doing all of the above. The scenery is amazing, watching dolphins swim by in the distance to seeing hammerhead sharks and filming stingrays, it was all there to take in. Delicious lunch, yummy muffins and biccies were all provided. Kurt goes out of his way to make sure everyone has a good time. Do I recommend this trip or any other that Kurt may do ? Yes, 100 % without a doubt and if you are even remotely scared of the water, Kurt is your go to person. Once again, thank you for an awesome day out Kurt.

My wife and I did the Little Barrier Island (Hauturu) tour with Gulf Eco Adventures. What a fantastic day out! Kurt is an excellent guide, very knowledgeable about the area and passionate about preserving this wonderful part of New Zealand. The service, equipment, and refreshments were all 5 star. I highly recommend this company.

Thanks so much, Kurt, for a great trip for Pam and me. You communicated great with us leading up to the trip, were on time with the boat, provided some great snacks, but really delivered the best with our trip to Little Barrier Island. The water colors and the diving were so worth it all (see the attached pic), and we appreciated your commitment to the conservation of this special island!

Definitely worth doing! We saw dolphins, sting rays, baby hammer head sharks, and soooo many fish! They provided paddle boards, kayaks, wet suits, snorkeling gear and a delicious lunch. Everything you need for a memorable time!

On day 3 of our 28 day road trip in NZ, we booked a nine-hour adventure with Gulf Eco Adventures. What started off as an idyllic adventure turned into a fractured L1 vertebrae for me.
On December 22nd we headed out from Sandspit Wharf. There were 11 of us on board plus the skipper, Kurt Salmond. Arriving at Hen and Chicken Islands, Kurt found a picturesque and calm haven for us to enjoy snorkelling and kayaking.
It was on our return to Sandspit Wharf that disaster struck. Winds were high and the waters rough. When asked to slow down, Kurt replied that it wouldn’t make a difference and continued at high speed. As we cut through the water, the bow of the boat repeatedly launched off the crest of each successive wave, crashing into the trough below. People were getting ill and not once through this entire ordeal did Kurt stop to check on his passengers’ safety.
The damage I suffered was due to the boat launching off an extremely high wave, lifting me completely off the bench. I landed with such force on my tailbone you could hear the vertebrae fracturing. We cruised into Marsden Point and I was transported to Whangarei Hospital by ambulance diagnosed with a burst fracture of the L1 vertebrae. I ended up in the hospital for six days.
Thinking he would file an Incident Report with the police, I emailed Kurt asking for a copy for my insurance company. His response to me was “Yoube [sic] got a real nerve Tim. Take some personal responsibility.” Never did get that report.

Hi Tim
Your account of events are incorrect.
In our booking info it is warned that conditions can be rough. The conditions we experienced were at the upper end however, but that is what you have to expect when going on an 'offshore adventure'. Individuals must determine their own physical abilities when assessing if our trips are suitable for them. This includes age, whether they are overweight or unfit.
Before we started the return journey I explicitly advised all customers that it would be rough and to ensure they were in a comfortable place.
I also advised that we would first travel 15min to the shelter of another island so all passengers could get a feel for conditions and we would be able to readjust if necessary to continue the journey.
We did this and I checked all passengers and their placement and comfort before continuing.
When your injury occurred I immediately stopped assessed your condition contacted emergency services and diverted to the nearest port. It wasn't until we stopped to assess your injuries that other passengers were I'll due to bobbing around in the water.
At some point you have to take personal responsibility for your own health and safety. At the same time every individuals safety is always at the forefront of my mind.
All other passengers that were on board reported back to me that they were fine and that they felt I did everything right.
My professional concern for your wellbeing was completely thorough the whole time.
My response that you 'had a nerve and need to take personal responsibility ' came after you tried to get a full refund for the trip.
Up until the incident you had had a great day. I was professional the entire time and on reflection I would not have done anything different.
Unfortunate accidents happen. Its how we deal with them that define our character.

I would like to book two tickets for next Saturday, April 28. What is the price and do you have availability?

Hi Warren, which trip were you interested in? We are just coming to the end of our season so availability is fine, it's more a case of having sufficient people for a trip to go ahead. You can book and pay on our website. Although also best to check the weather, long range is not looking great for Saturday but fine most of this coming week.
