A spectacular location for this memorial to 23rd New Zealand prime minister and the first Labour Prime Minister. The site is at Bastion point and has a mini park on the landward side of the monument.

This place will never disappoint you. It has areas where you can relax and have picnic with your family or fly a kite. Climbed at the top of the Bastion Point and bask in the beautiful views of the Auckland City and the Hauraki Gulf.

The same as Bastion Point. The place takes about 10 minutes to walk around so it is worth it for a short visit, good views back over Aucklsnd and over the harbour.

I haven’t been up to Bastion point in years (>15) and can’t remember the monument. It is set with a beautiful garden surrounding and amazing views to the city, Devonport and Rangitoto. Due to water restrictions some of the garden beds bare at time of our visit. Still a beautiful spot and worth a visit if you are in the area.
We often go to mission bay with overseas guests if they are here over the warmer months and will now add this reserve too since nearby.

You can appreciate this park on three levels: the view, the surroundings and the memorial. I got the first two right away; I didn't appreciate the third until I got home.
The view? What'll I'll remember most is the Auckland skyline.
The surroundings? The memorial is in the midst of a large park right on the harbor. It has a nice reflecting pool and is surrounded by flowers. Peaceful and pretty.
The memorial? Not being a Kiwi, I had never heard of Michael Joseph Savage, but I Googled him when I got home. New Zealand's 23rd prime minister, he headed the country's first Labour government from 1935 to 1940. Savage created New Zealand's welfare system and is beloved because of it.

Prime Minister Mickey Savage is one of New Zealand's most popular Prime Ministers. He is most known for implementing an extensive system of social services that people still benefit from today. The lovely garden in his honor contains white, orange and yellow poppies as well as stunning purple flowers. (As someone from the Northern Hemisphere, I enjoyed this "second" spring.) Interestingly, you can see Rangitoto Island, one of the city's 18 volcanoes, in the waters beyond.

福祉国家の礎を作ったマイケル・ ジョセフ・サヴェージ（Michael Joseph Savage)を記念して造られた記念碑を中心とした公園です。丘の上にあり、そこから眺める景色は素晴らしいです。その中でも記念碑の後ろに面し海を隔てた島が、沖縄の伊江島に似ていてびっくりしました。（本部半島から見た姿にそっくり）広大な公園で、ニュージーランドをゆっくり満喫できる場所です。
