We rented Doug's 1200 Triumph for a trip to the Burt Munro Challenge Rally. The bike was brilliant and ran flawlessly through rain storms that washed out towns and closed highways. The only disappointment we had was not having enough time to restore the bike to the showroom condition that Doug passed it to us in at the beginning of our trip. We will use Doug's bikes again.

I rented Doug's well kept Enfield 500 for the second half of February and had a blast! All of Dougs bikes are beautiful and well maintained. Doug himself is very personable and always willing to help travelers with trip planning, weather information and other essentials. Throughout my trip Doug was happy to text with me and to give advice when needed. Next time I'm in NZ, Otautahi will be my first choice for a bike rental.

My wife & I were nearing the end of a 3-month trip around North & South Islands and as we had a few days to spare, before returning to the UK, we looked into hiring a motorbike. Through Google search we came across Otautahi Motorbike Rentals, run by Doug & Linda. We were so lucky to have found them - they are, without doubt, “simply the best”.
From the initial enquiry, through to meeting them and collecting the bike they both went out of their way to make sure we had an amazing experience.
Doug was quick to respond to our initial enquiry and was extremely professional, gracious and totally understanding when we messed up our booking.
The bike - a Triumph T120 - was very well cared for and in great condition and the helmets, jackets and gloves were of a high standard.
With Doug’s tips we had a great few days riding the roads around Diamond Bay and out to Akaroa. Whenever we stopped people would come over to admire the bike - it was certainly a conversation starter.
If you’re considering renting a motorbike in NZ you’d be mad to look elsewhere: not only will you have the choice of well prepared bikes and good quality gear to choose from, you can also stay in their amazing home where they offer genuine NZ hospitality in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
Go for it, you won’t regret it!

I don't personally ride, but my partner loves bikes, so I decided to rent a bike for his birthday in December. I randomly stumbled upon Doug & Linda's website and could not have been happier with this choice.
Even before the hire, the communication with Doug was outstanding, he was extremely helpful and provided great advice on which bike to choose.
We rented the Royal Enfield for a day only and the surprise for my partner was a full success. The weather looked a bit grim in the morning but cleared up for us throughout the afternoon and we had an incredible time riding to and around Akaroa.
The Royal Enfield is a beautiful bike, which Doug keeps in tip top shape. I don't know all too much about bikes, but my partner loved the riding experience and even riding pillion on it was just amazing. It's a great bike for getting up the hills and awesome on windy roads.
Doug provided us with the full riding gear too, which was great for the unsteady weather, so definitely worth it!
When we got back, we had a nice chat with Doug and Linda, who are both beautiful people and their passion for bikes is just contagious.
I couldn’t recommend these guys enough and will come back here any time and maybe next time I’ll even have my own bike license. :)

We had visited NZ at the beginning of December, and had decided out of the blue that we wanted to ride up the Akoroa mountain drive on one of those days.
After some research, we realized most businesses in NZ didn't offer a daily hire option. Fortunately Otaūtahi motor rentals did!
We rented the Royal Enfield and safety gear. Douglas and Lynda were more than helpful with the renting process. They even went out and bought my girlfriend new boots for her gear rental that morning!
You can tell they really care about their customers and their business. They were a real joy to talk to, organized, and an absolute testament to kiwi hospitality.
On top of all that, they also offer some incredible looking accommodations for anyone looking for a place to stay after a long tour!
Would highly recommend renting from here!

I rented a Triumph Bonneville from Otautahi Motorbike Rentals for 3 weeks of November 2019. I can't recommend them highly enough. I really wanted an adventure and decided that New Zealand on a motorbike was going to be it. I can't remember what I searched for on Google to find Doug and Lynda but I am utterly delighted that I did. They were really helpful in advance and made me feel very confident that I'd picked the right company.
I flew in from the UK and Doug very kindly picked me up from the airport. I had elected to stay two nights with them at the start so I could acclimatise and take a day trip on the bike before setting off proper. That was a great idea as their home is spectacular and incredibly comfortable. They made me very welcome and were great company. We went over my planned route and they gave me some advice and tips which I happily took.
Day one I rode down to Akaroa and then back via the Summit Road. It was such a great day and everything went brilliantly with the bike. After another night of sitting by a fire and nattering with Doug and Lynda I then set off on 18 days touring the south island.
It was amazing. There aren't really the words to describe what a stunning place this island was. I managed to cover quite a bit of it on my tour, doing 3100 km in the end. I only had one little mishap on the bike where something came loose but I called Doug and the AA were there quickly to fix it back on for me. Doug had given me some chain lube to keep that healthy and aside from that and fuel I had nothing at all to worry about.
The luggage that was on the bike was so good that I'm buying some back in the UK to fit to my bike. It was big enough and clipped on and off so easily that it was never a pain to pack each morning.
I had left Doug and Lynda with a note of my plans and they got in touch one day to make sure I was ok as the weather had really turned. As a woman touring by myself it was pretty nice to know someone knew where I was supposed to be each day. I really appreciated that.
The bike was really great. Pretty much every time I filled up someone would wander over to say "nice bike" or tell me they used to have one back in the day. Doug's stable is full of bikes that give you that feeling. You can't beat classic styling in my opinion. When it's teamed with modern performance and reliability then it's just perfect,
I returned the bike to them on the last day and spent the night again before flying out the next morning. By then I felt that they were old friends and we all went along to a local bike night for the evening and it was lovely to meet some of their friends and hang out like I was a local.
In summary, if you can ride a motorbike and you want to have a look at any of New Zealand, or just have a bit of time to kill around Christchurch then get in touch with Doug and he'll sort you out. I brought my own kit but he has a great selection of stuff to hire. If you want to team that up with some sitting by the fire with a friendly dog and a G&T then book the room too. You won't regret it.

This is the best way to explore New Zealand. Doug and Linda are fabulous human beings and you can see the love they have for these bikes and their guests. I did not stay at the bed and breakfast but will be sure to next time. I rented the motorbike for a 3 day weekend and couldn’t be happier. On return I was greeted with a beer and had a lovely chat with Doug and Linda. If you’re thinking about it just do it already. These bikes are conversation starters and will always get heads turning.

I booked a ride and stay in with Otaūtahi motor rentals on a whim late last year as an Xmas pressie to myself. I’ve got to say, Douglas and Lynda’s hospitality and range of classic and modern motorcycles is second to none. Had a beautiful time riding the port hills and the bays followed by a spa and glass of bubbles next to a fire. Incredible.x

If your considering going for a ride in NZ def give Doug a call from Otautahi! He is more than accomodating and the only guys in Christchurch that will do 1 day rentals. We had an awesome overnight ride out to Akoroa. Thanks for all your help, and making our ride happen Doug amazing service! We will definitely be back again!

Doug was very helpful in getting the bike of choice (Triumph America) ready for my hubby to use for a couple of days so that he could join the Triumph Owners Club NZ for their rally at Hanmer Springs. It was a fantastic opportunity to try out this lovely bike and he thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the rally in beautiful scenery. I was lucky enough to ride on the back and it was a very comfortable ride. On returning the bike in some really heavy rain some of his clothing got wet and Lynda very kindly was able to dry them off while we enjoyed some refreshments in their lovely back garden setting. Thanks also for the local pizzeria recommendation which was excellent. If we are ever in your neck of the woods again we will be sure to look you up and maybe even stay in your boutique B&B accommodation. Doug and Lynda you were brilliant and it was so lovely to meet you - highly recommended!
