Accommodation Issues – Uncomfortable & Poorly Maintained
• No Curtains: The cottage lacked proper curtains, meaning we had no privacy and were woken up by the early morning light every day.
• Non-Functioning Fridge: The fridge did not work, making it impossible to store food or drinks properly. Given the remote location, this was extremely inconvenient.
• Insufficient Towels & Toiletries: Only four towels were provided for six guests, and toiletries (soap & shampoo) were only stocked for two people, meaning we ran out after two days.
Inadequate & Expired Breakfast
• Insufficient Supplies: The breakfast provided was only enough for two people, despite the booking being for six. After raising this issue, extra supplies were not delivered until January 1st, long after we had run out. Even then, essential items such as milk, butter, and jam were missing.
• Expired Food: The milk provided was past its best-before date, making it unsafe to drink. This is completely unacceptable at any accommodation, let alone one charging premium rates.
Serious Water Quality Issue
On January 1st, the tap water turned orange, making it unsafe for drinking and even washing. I immediately called the after-hours number to report this issue and left a message, but nobody ever responded. This was not just an inconvenience but a major health concern, and the lack of response from management was completely unacceptable.
Lack of Accountability
Instead of addressing these failures, Borrodell’s response was to ask for an additional $500 to cover their booking mistake. This is outrageous considering the poor service, lack of essentials, expired food, non-functioning fridge, lack of privacy, and contaminated water.
Final Verdict – Avoid at All Costs
This was one of the worst accommodation experiences we’ve ever had. For the price we paid, we expected basic hospitality standards, clean and functional amenities, and professional service—but we received none of these. Between the lack of privacy, broken appliances, expired food, and unsafe water, I strongly advise against staying here. Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere.

We went for Sunday lunch on a girls trip to Orange. We had the set menu for $90, it becomes far more expensive with the 15% Sunday surcharge & 1.5% credit card surcharge. I would say overpriced for the food we had & serving sizes. Lovely wine, & beautiful setting / view - not a fan of people having dogs at the restaurant

In the last moment I called Borrodell to ask for reservation. It was after hours. I was surprised I had a call back. Sorry, we missed your call.
This is for the first time I have spoken to Rhonda. She is a manager. After that it was seamless. Don’t know how to prepare I called a few times. I have spoken to Katherine about what to expect. Thank you. Thank you both, Rhonda and Katherine. It was amazing. The whole experience, help and organising. The accomodation is very clean and very thought after to meet the requirements. You just move in. Bring some eggs and a bacon if you want to have a breakfast. Light on the fire. Have some wine. Be careful with the kangaroos. Enjoy.
Having been to all the continents in the world, I can only praise the team at Borrodell. The restaurant is amazing.
Would I go back? Definitely.

After much deliberation due to the great expense of what we were planning, I booked a long lunch here for 61 guests. We were travelling from all over New South Wales, so I wanted something really special. We had a bus collect all 61 guests, but due to the fact that a few were stuck in traffic we were running 10 minutes late. While we were on our way, the manager Katherine called me and asked where we were. I explained we were five minutes away and apologised for the delay due to the staggered arrival of all our guests from many locations. She immediately said we needed to hurry and start eating the canapés as soon as we arrived. I was very surprised that a 10 minute delay had caused a problem in what we had been told was a long lunch well into the afternoon. When I booked, We were told if we were over 60 people we would have the beautiful glass function room. Upon arrival, we were quickly usher from the top function room, down to a whole stack of individually set tables under a tin roof on the deck of another area. at a function where you want one long table, separate tables does cause a few problems - much easier to have one long table for cohesion. I am sure a long table 30 each side would have fitted indoors next to the bar? It was extremely hot under that tin roof on the balcony and I just didn’t understand and neither did the other guests why when the restaurant there was completely empty we weren’t indoors? as the afternoon progressed, it became unbearably hot under the tin roof. For some unknown reason they had chosen to see us out here, rather than inside the restaurant with the air conditioning on?
The drinks service was an issue. When we arrived there seemed to be only about 8 beers on ice. Having to make people queue up on the balcony with sometimes only one staff member and then proceed inside to line up again and wait for a drink was very frustrating. It caused huge delays in service.
There were lots of complaints about the beer selection from the men. Apparently they weren’t very nice. I’m not a beer drinker but it would have been nice to have a much wider selection on offer than just the one local brewery. I should have asked for a list of what would be served as I had assumed there would be a much wider choice? I myself only drank the Voddy Toddy’s and I had 3; each one was completely different. One tasted like cordial, one was done with solo type soft drink, and one was done with soda water. For the price we were paying you really need to make sure there is staff training and uniformity on this kind of thing as unfortunately the cocktails weren’t too good.
I’m not sure if the older lady was the managers Mum, our staff member told me she was, but upon leaving she wouldn’t let people into top room to buy a case of cider. They were trying to spend money at her establishment! She kept saying they weren’t allowed in. It was only one member of our party who wanted to buy a case of cider in one minute. I found this very uncomfortable as he’d mentioned he’d like to buy some drinks before leaving. I had presumed they’d be happy for the purchase.
And finally onto the wedding booking. The manager Katherine came up to me at 3pm and told me we would have to leave within the hour. I was astounded! For $125 a head we had all totally assumed that we would be able to linger and watch the sunset which is why we picked your restaurant. I lost count of the amount of times before the 4pm time you had suggested, that countless people came up and told us “your bus is here”. This was so incredibly disappointing.
Unfortunately many people found the manager Katherine‘s manner abrasive, I had lots of comments from friends asking what was wrong with her. I tried to be exceptionally polite at all times. I think she must have been stressed about having 2 events at the one time. I felt like we were on a conveyor belt to make some quick money before the wedding that arrived that afternoon.
Unfortunately there is no way I’d ever be able to recommend the venue. The really sad thing is, before posting on Tripadvisor, I sent two emails that went unanswered. I then called her mobile and again the phone call has not been returned. Looking through the one star reviews on this page, I can see that this is regular treatment from this establishment. How incredibly disappointing.

Enjoyed a romantic lunch with my husband for our wedding anniversary at the weekend. The retaurant was not very busy so we had a table overlooking the hillside & winyards, which was just perfect!
We chose the 3 course lunch, which included bread & pate; a starter + main. The food was delicious and just the right amount so we were not overly full at the end of our meal. I recommend ordering at least one side, as it was not clear from the menu that the "salad" served with my steak was just a few leaves of spinach....
We had matching wine and whilst I enjoyed the Shiraz, it had been poured from the end of the bottle, so there was sediment at the bottom of my glass, which spoiled it somewhat.
We also found the service a bit hit & miss. Staff were attentive to begin, but when we asked for the bill it took ages to arrive and the waitress made a comment that "that's a very short lunch". which I found rather passive aggressive!

Went to Borrodell Vineyard to taste their white wines & to see the beautiful views. Then the storm suddenly hit but the DJ kept on playing whilst the rest of the group where taking photos of the the vinery & the DJ. Great Afternoon.

Oh what a view, nothing better than a glass of wine listening to live music and relaxing in such a perfect setting. Will definately return and next time I book for lunch

Immaculate & classy location & cellar door. The ground is on a slope with spectacular view. The cellar door seating area (both in & out) oversee the valley. Service is exceptional, wine offerings even better. Thoroughly enjoyable !

We recently attended a wedding here. We left hungry.
For the price they charge young couples to hold their wedding here, Borrodell should be ashamed for the almost non existent size of meals they serve. Entree was only slightly bigger than the mains & entree was quite small. My main (Barramundi) was only slightly thicker than a slice of sashimi. No veggies only 1 wilted shallot on top. My husband’s steak was not much larger than a small lamb chop & again no veggies in sight. I asked for a bread roll, I received an irritated response from the waitress that ‘bread rolls were not requested so we don’t have any, I’ll ask chef if he can do anything”.
By the way I’m still waiting for a response!
Bread rolls are generally just included automatically in function and wedding packages, but I’m sure Borrodell would surcharge them for $10 extra per bread roll!!
Also, by the way, children’s meals always go out with adults entrees NOT with adults main meals. It’s common knowledge so that hungry children don’t have to wait so long to eat!
Great scenery & location here but don’t expect generous meals served with love, vegetables or bread rolls!!

Wife’s 70th birthday, we stayed at one of the self contained villa.
Obviously beautiful view of Orange. Owner dropped in today hello and showed us where things are ,that was nice of her.
Villa sits on top of the mountain and very designed. For those wishing to take work with you, sorry no Wifi here.
Can’t fault this place, as the bed faces a beautiful view, there’s no blinds or curtains so wake up with the sunrise.
