It’s a small but very convenient park with different animals. Just after your entrance you’ll see a lot of kangaroos walking/laying on a grass/jumping - it’s really awesome! There are friendly and you can feed them and take a lot of different pictures. Also you can meet other animals with some scheduled presentations - approx 15min speech from the staff about some of them. You’ll definitely hear something new about them. But the key entertainment part are animals encounters (also scheduled) - I highly recommend you to book the visit before the entrance of you’re interested in it - places are limited, first booked - first served. We’ve been there on Monday in 10:30 am - there were no available places, all encounters were booked.
There are a refill water station, a restaurant and a souvenir shop on site.
Overall, we’ve spent there 2 hours (without lunch) and it was funny!

If you love animals, especially Australian animals then you’ll love Ballarat Wildlife Park. This was my second time coming here with the last being 9 years ago. Last time, I simply bought the regular ticket entry; this time, I bought two animal experiences plus my entry (entry needs to be purchased in addition.)
While it’s mostly native Australian animals, they’ve added tigers from Dreamworld in QLD and meerkats to the cast. There are also little penguins, which I don’t recall being there last time.
The animal encounters were without question the highlight of my visit. In the tiger experience, I got to feed Accacia (? Spelling; pronounced like focaccia but with an A) a bucket of meat through a specially designed hole in the glass. Being the only one on the experience, I got to do the whole bucket. Having spent years vying to even get a decent amount of viewing time of animals at multiple wildlife parks and zoos (either kids pushing in or the parents practically shoving adults without kids aside to make way for their kids), it was great to have the tiger and the keepers all to myself. Additionally, I got to see the tiger through the glass rather than the fence with bars so I could get a good view and see all the details. Whereas the giant tortoise experience, I got to pat Hugo and learn about tortoises. The hands on nature of the experiences really made my day. Plus having a professional photographer taking pictures (with one digital print - I bought hard copy ones, too) means I have some great souvenirs of the day.
The other thing that makes Ballarat Wildlife Park and its animal experiences so great is the knowledge and passion the staff bring to the job. The gift shop staff were great and so were the cafe staff. I’d like to, however, make a special mention of:
- Zac the photographer - as well as capturing those great moments on film, he was highly knowledgeable about the animals. He shared some interesting tidbits about the tigers like how their teeth and tongues are designed to kill their prey promptly.
- Will - he ran the tiger experience and was highly knowledgeable about the tigers. He also took the time to answer questions I had no matter how random. Additionally, he was very thorough in explaining how the experience would occur and safety protocols. I also watched him conduct the afternoon penguin presentation. He was definitely a natural with the feeds and I loved hearing his explanation of molting penguins.
- Darcy - the other keeper running the tiger experience. Like Will, he was very thorough in explaining about the safety and why. He also offered to take some photos for me on my device so I’ve got some additional great photos.
- Lachie - he was the keeper with Hugo the tortoise. I loved the way he was very natural and relaxed with Hugo and answering questions from the kids before the experience started. Like Will and Darcy, he was great about explaining things to watch out for. Eg. If Hugo walks, watching out for his toes due to his 200 kg weight.

I had no idea that there was a Wildlife Park in Ballarat and WOW it sure did surprise me and my grand daughter.
It's a beautiful place and the habitats are so well planned out.
My grand daughter had an animal encounter with Kombai the Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo... it was the highlight of our trip away.
We were lucky that we had gone on a very quiet day, possibly due to that it was meant to rain all day. It did start to rain just before we were about to leave but instead we bought another bag of food and fed the kangaroos again as the rain sure doesn't bother animals or us!
The amount of kangaroos and joeys was amazing, I'd never seen so many joeys at the one place... the kangaroos were enjoying being fed and we had to keep buying more bags of food for them, some were quite cheeky and tried to get the whole bag! Who can't love our kangaroos!!!
Koala's they have so many this is truly a fantastic place that any Melbournian or someone visiting Melbourne or Victoria really need to visit.
I was amazed that in with all the Australian native animals there were meerkats, talk about super cute, fairy penguins and even a beautiful tiger!
I couldn't get over the amount of animal encounters you could choose from, so many!
If you're thirsty or hungry they have a great cafe and if you're like me and like to buy a souvenior well you definitely can't go past they shop which has nothing but great quality and well made items.

The usual animals with koalas, kangaroos, emus, wombats and a reptile house. The meerkats were a hit with the younger kids… Reptile section worth a visit with everything from large to small… crocodiles, alligators, lizards and snakes. Indoor and outdoor enclosures with easy access for toddlers and prams etc… Animal encounters available if you want to pay extra. The grounds and enclosures are very well kept all nice and clean… good job. Small kiosk with a nice range of cakes, coffee and hot food. 2 hours would do it.

Staff are friendly and visitors can see the animals upclose.
Feeding of the kangaroos was fun though most of them seem too full to eat.
It is not a very big space so one can easily complete the park in 2 hours.
As it is very far from the city, would suggest combining this with a visit to other attractions to make the trek worthwhile.

Great park visit, Nikki at reception was very friendly & helpful when phoning to book the Meerkat experience. Park is easy to walk around and has a wide range of animals both Australian and international. There are multiple keeper talks each day .
The Meerkat experience was a great oppurtunity to get up close to these cute little animals. Great day out.

The animals seem happy and it is very obvious that they are been thoroughly looked after. I could sense a feeling of belonging among the crew and professionals that work within the park, even as they were leaving to go home they had the humanity within them to raise a salutation. This park is very well laid out and can I say that I saw a Birthday Function take place as they do cater for this - what a great idea!
I was very impressed on all aspects of this establishment and wish them best of luck in future. This is an authentic full on experience for tourists and locals alike, well done.
Can I also say that the young lady looking after the shop on the way out was a pure delight whose enchantment of magical and kind disposition almost stole the show. She sold me a Pinguin key chain and guided me onto the membership selections I implore you look at to assist the park with their memberships.

Went thinking it would be animals in open habitats.. it’s not .. saddest creatures were the crocodile living in a pool and the eagle in a cage . Paying to see tortured animals wasn’t what I was expecting to see with my son .. instead we used it as an education on the abuse humans are willing to undertake on helpless animals all in the name of entertainment .
Don’t find these places - take your kids to Wilson’s prom and see animals in the wild . Not caged, depressed and abused for the entertainment of Chinese tourists . Shame on you ballarat wildlife park.

The Ballarat Wildlife Park is accredited by ZAAA. All of our animals are cared for to the highest standards, with the love and dedication of our amazing keepers. Animal welfare and conservation are our highest priorities. To even suggest our animals are "tortured" or "abused" is basically defamatory.
We are a part of numerous breeding programs, to ensure the survival of endangers native and exotic species.
With hundreds of 4 and 5 star reviews online, it is not only disappointing, but very surprising to read a 'review' like this.

Their website is down; can you book a close encounter beforehand or is it just luck on the day?
เขียนเมื่อ 1 กุมภาพันธ์ 2019
You can definitely get a close encounter with the kangaroos, for the koalas I believe there is charge

Are the animals viewable in June?
เขียนเมื่อ 20 มกราคม 2019
Hi, Ballarat Wildlife Park is open every day except 25 December. Animals are viewable year-round.

Are you allowed to have a picnic there?
I wanted to hire the bushland hut but I feel like it's aimed more at little kids and my group will mainly be all adults.
เขียนเมื่อ 13 มกราคม 2019
I’m not sure what the official Guidelines are , however we had 5 adults 2 kids and had a picnic lunch outside of the cafe, we purchased drinks cold and hot from the cafe . We were not instructed not to eat . Hope that helps .

May I know what the entrance fee of 31.50$ (when booked online) includes? I am aware that theres kangaroo petting and shows to catch, but getting close to the Koala/Snakes/Wombats requires additional pay?? So meaning I can only see them and not pet them unless I pay the extra 40$? Please let me know what I can do with just the entrance fee and if so, how long I should spend here. Thank you!
เขียนเมื่อ 13 กุมภาพันธ์ 2018
Hi
Your entry fee includes all Keeper Talks, a Guided Tour at 11am and you are free to roam around all day if you wish. You can pat Kangaroo's for free and get really close to all our other animals. If you want a photo as a memento of your visit, with an animal of your choice, that is an extra fee. Just a reminder you can get up close to Koala's in Victoria but you are not allowed to hold them.
Best regards

Hi, if you are traveling with children, and you were to choose between Ballarat Wildlife park and Melbourne zoo, which one will you go?
เขียนเมื่อ 22 กรกฎาคม 2017
Our Park is a more intimate Park where you can pat Kangaroos and get up close and personal to all of our non venomous animals.
We certainly hope you come and visit.

Hi,,, I'm planning to visit Ballarat wildlife park and Sovereign hill on the same day. Can anyone recommend me, which one should I visit first? Wildlife or Sovereign? So I can get to see all/most animal show. Thx
เขียนเมื่อ 26 มิถุนายน 2017
It depends on what takes your interest most. There is a loot more to do and see at Sovereign Hill and I suspect you will spend most of your time there. The only practical suggestion is to time limit yourself at the first place you visit so you have plenty of time at the second location.
