I’ve always been a big fan of car museums, but when I was fortunate enough to have recently inherited a mint 1982 Datsun Skyline, it has raised my interest in older/classic cars to out of this world levels. People who own and drive these machines know what I mean, right down to winding your own windows down!
So I will give my honest opinion and say that the Nelson Classic Car Museum ranks easily in the top 2 I have ever seen. The variety of cars in terms of eras rates 9/10, with anything from vintage through to 1990s. The actual variety of cars themselves would rate a solid 8.5/10, especially if you like vintage cars and classic post war American machines. Loved the Jaguar display with most models represented from 1948, including a stunning E type. However, the condition of the cars in terms of presentation is 11/10!! They all look concourse with stunning paint and shiny chrome.
Accompanying displays which frame the surrounds of the display buildings are extremely well done and add to the aesthetics and interest, so 10/10 for this.
In summary a 10/10 experience even for my wife who was initially reluctant to go hav3 a look. What does that say?

Living in Blenheim and visiting Nelson so many times, I still cannot believe we had never visited! What a little gem! The Nelson Classic Car Museum is absolutely fabulous! Whether you are a 'die-hard' car enthusiast or not, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The range of vehicles is incredible and the way they are displayed with shop fronts and staging of era's gone by, makes this a journey through the ages not to be missed.
My husband and I both shared stories we could recount from the good old days' as we walked around - from the friend with a ford escort & the neighbour with a Cadillac Coupe de Ville sitting in her backyard with grass up to the rims to pushing a 1979 Suzuki up a hill in Dunedin as kids, watching Back to the Future in an old cinema with the velvet curtains and hanging with my uncle, a hot rod enthusiast, in the back of his Lincoln Continental.
This place was epic and don't forget to go out the back, where the display continues, plus you get to see some restoration work in progress.
Fabulous service, a quality museum and an excellent way to spend a few hours.
Don't forget to grab a bit at the Little Engine Room Eatery onsite, the food is delicious!

Well worth visiting! The array of classic cars is amazing and there are so many! It's definitely the best car museum we've been to. It's in a clean, modern building (actually 2 buildings) which is easily accessible for prams or wheelchairs. People of all ages will enjoy it. There's a gift shop and a yummy cafe on site too which is worth visiting. Close to the airport.

When we visited Nelson, despite being January, we struck really wet weather. It was probably only because of that that we ended up visiting the car museum but I'm so glad we did. We've been to a number of car museums and this one is right up there - it is really impressive. The range is large and the variety of cars is really good. Added to that is the backdrops and styling of the whole place. This was really unexpected and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It really was a great experience, well worth visiting.

What an amazing museum. Every car was immaculate with clear information boards and tasteful settings. We have visited many car museums around the world and this is a real gem. Highly recommend a visit.
We also had an excellent cup of coffee in the coffee shop which is clearly a popular spot for locals.

I've visited a fair number of auto museums during my career in motoring journalism. But this came as the biggest surprise.
It's great to be able to be able to see cars without being held back by barriers. The description panels are well written & informative too.
But make sure you don't only visit the predominantly US front hall. The European Hall at the back is even better!

Whilst touring NZ. We literally just spotted this on Google maps and thought it was worth a look. Oh yes is it worth a look. For a small town in the North of the South Island this is just amazing. Sad that we only had 45 mins touring the museum due to our confusion over the closing time. A tremendous selection of vintage, historic and modern classics. Good mix of American and British. Lovely Jaguar section too, including one of my favourites the XK150. The condition of the cars is a delight to behold. Really glad we made the effort. If you are in the area you should too. 👍

Blown away by the sheer quantity and quality of the cars. Kudos to the owner, who obviously has a passion. We are fortunate to be able to have this person in New Zealand.
