Want to know about the history of the timber industry, head to Woodworks Museum and Interpretive Centre on the Northern approach to Gympie. The building itself is something to be enjoyed also. Housed over three floors (main floor, mezzanine and basement) there was so many interesting historical equipment and photographs to see, as well as loads of information to read. I enjoyed viewing up close the 619 year old Kauri Pine disc, logged in North Queensland in 1939, and the historical record of world events described on the growth rings: 1415 Battle of Agincourt, 1492 Columbus discovered America, 1588 Spanish Armada. In the basement is a small replica of a gold mine shaft, worth checking out. Outside on the property there are a few other buildings to discover; Blacksmith's Shop, Timber Cutter's Camp, Gympie Bone Museum, Mill Office and the Steam Driven Sawmill. The sawmill has live demostrations on Friday's, ring ahead for times. Museum admission price was $10/adult Closed Sunday

Worth visiting, educational for adults and kids. Enthusiastic volunteers make it all worthwhile as these people love what they are doing and want to pass on their knowledge. Huge park next door for picnics.

This museum is truely amazing. Located right at highway. Ticket is very cheap, $7/adult, my kid under 5 is free. The museum displays many different kind of wood, tools and machines. There is a giant piece of wood that more than +600 years. Can’t imagine how big this tree was. Bond museum is my most favarious part which displays human bond and animal bond. The guy working here is super friendly and useful. He explains everything very details. Basically, I have learned a lot after the visit. I think this place is very useful for education.

This is a truly marvelous museum. So much to see and enjoy. The displays are very interesting and provide a solid insight into the local wood industry. Of special interest is the saw mill. The machinery is run by a steam engine. The volunteers fire up the steam engine only on Friday mornings and it is fascinating to see the mill come to life when the machinery kicks into action. There is something special about steam engines, the sound of timber being sawn and the smell of cut timber. All exciting experiences.
The museum proper is full of incredible examples of timber pieces and artifacts as well as crafted utensils. The shop has several excellent pieces for purchase.
The volunteers are extremely friendly and full of interesting conversation and information. Take time to chat with them. Would return here just for the milling experience. Entry is cheap.

Lots of information to read and plenty to see from the time of only hand tools and horses for transportation up to the modern days, Staff were very helpful, plenty of parking with a picnic area and entry fee only $5. p/p .

Takes you from the days of nothing but hand tools and horse transport, timber identification, tools and early mechanisation. Local craftspeople display their goods for sale, and the helpful, knowledgeable volunteer staff guide you through the displays.

We saw the sign for this museum and stopped for a look. So glad we did as it was excellent! Entry fee was only $5 which is quite cheap. Lots of information to read and plenty to see. Absolutely amazing to learn about how trees are mulled into wood the old fashion way. Lots of mechanical stuff to enjoy. The old mine shaft was definitely a big hit.
Plenty of parking spaces and ramps which is great for prams and wheelchairs. BBQ and picnic spots.
Great activity for the whole family and you must do if your in the area.

A great mix of indoor and outdoor exhibits all about the history of trees and woodworking in Queensland. Lovely picnic areas and great shaded areas to walk around in.

This facility has undergone a massive upgrade during the past couple of years and some great static displays depict the predominantly man handling of massive timbers logged in the Gympie district . If lucky enough to visit on the special "Steam" days some of the various milling machinery can be seen in operation. Ideal for travelling groups to spend time looking back to where the Timber Industry commenced and the importance it played to Gympie and Qld. Organise a tour with pre-booking and a wonderful "Smoko" can be arranged. This will always be a great stop over point when travelling to or through Gympie

I have taken groups of primary school aged children there when the machinery has been operating and they were fascinated with watching it. The museum preserves an important part of local history. The staff were very helpful and provided information aimed at the age group. If you are fortunate enough to visit on heritage days then there are additional exhibits there.
