A beautifully set up old cinema with the original features maintained. Really impressed (only downside I would say is while the seats were comfortable, there really isn’t much legroom (think airplane space!) so if you are tall like my husband and there for a while, it can be a struggle (plus if you get there later and have to sit in the middle, it’s not an easy feat to get to your seat!
Aside from that, we really enjoyed the Die Hard Christmas session, complete with a show band that played for around 40 minutes prior to the show. It was a fantastic addition to the movie and really helped set off the old world feel! At $45 a ticket, which included the show, movie and a Christmas cocktail.. great value!
Note - there is a candy bar section downstairs and a bar on site so you can stock up on whatever you wish to have.

This is a superb example of what theatres were like in the golden age of movies. The art deco fit out is really appealing

I attended a movie earlier this year at HOPP, and was blown away at the beautiful interiors, and old school atmosphere. The cinemas themselves were excellent, food selection great, staff lovely, and lively atmosphere of the place wonderful. I don’t live in Sydney, but I wouldn’t hesitate to visit HOPP again, when next in Sydney.

Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace - ELVIS-THATS-THE-WAY-IT-IS
What a great Elvis show and heritage cinema at the Hayden Orpheum.
ELVIS-THATS-THE-WAY-IT-IS was such a great memory of Elvis’ talent and humour captured in 1970 at Las Vegas. Enough to say that I took my wife who is a long time Elvis fan and she couldn’t have been happier, so I was really pleased.
It starts with Elvis and his closest band members rehearsing at MGM Studio, he looked relaxed and full of humour. This was filmed over 3 days. It then cuts to his backup singers rehearsing to recoded music. Then it moves to a full rehearsal on stage at The International Hotel at Las Vegas. The remainder is his on-stage performance where they combine scenes from 6 of his 1970 shows so you also see different outfits and a great selection of his music. It was almost like being there.
The heritage listed Hayden Orpheum is a grand old building with really helpful and polite staff. It includes 6 cinemas with the Hayden Orpheum being the largest. The cinemas also present live band performances. One of the Candy Bars is in the Lobby and nearby is Legends Lounge, a collection of photos of many of the greats. The Piano Bar is next to the Orpheum cinema and nice for a pre-show drink.

This grand Art Deco theatre is an incredible place to enjoy a live performance. Large enough of a decent size audience but not so large that you don’t feel like you are part of the show. Great acoustics and a nice snack bar. Overall a great night out.

The Beethoven performance was excellent . However the audience kept being distracted by the people in the front rows wandering in and then out during a piece as if it was a football match

Great old-fashioned art-deco cinema. Fantastic experience
We need to support these old style cinemas - please go and see a film if you are in the area. If you want a meal beforehand, I'd recommend Radio Cairo opposite (but you'll need to book)

Magnificent venue with many fabulous cinemas in which to view great , and the latest films.
Upstairs an efficient bar serving drinks; milk bar downstairs.
Wonderful example of Art Deco in Cinema 4 - seeing a Preview of Military Wives - a film worth seeing.
