I used to come here as a kid as I lived nearby in the town of Smoky Lake. It was a wonderful place to come in the summer and experience the history of our region. Favorite memories of mine include beading crafts, and firing a potato gun! Hope this place is still open which can educate and entertain children in the years to come.

I stopped by with my two kids (9 and 12) and 80 year old father; the interpreters were fantastic and so knowledgeable about the period. The location is a bit out of the way but worth the time for any history enthusiast.

I took my 3 grandchildren ages 8 -13 and their mom to explore the history of one of Alberta's older settlements and it was worth the 2 1/2 hour drive. The young man that gave us the guided tour was very knowledgeable about the settlement and area it gave us an understanding of how life began for many, and how some Cree tribes took up the life of learning new ways and how the Europeans learnt from the Cree. One of the children finished grade 7 last year and one is starting this week and it tied in with what they are learning. Not only did we enjoy the settlement, but the drive was beautiful and to round our trip off we circled around to Vegreville so they could see the pysanka and run around. If your out and about the trip to the settlement is well worth it especially if you are a history buff.

This is a summertime attraction, and offers school tours as well as themed events. For 2015 these include "A Toast to the Post" (Celebration of Queen Victoria's birthday) on May 24th, A Frontier Chriswtmas in July and The Great Potatro Derby in August.

We both enjoyed our drive from Sherwood Park through scenic east central Alberta to Victoria Settlement perched on the breaks of the North Saskatchewan River. A knowledgable interpreter guided our small group along the path explaining life at this fur trading outpost during the mid 1880s. Plenty of antiques, refurbished buildings and a small shop theater combination rounded out the 2 hour tour. Very well worth an afternoon drive with a nice picnic lunch and great company.
