We decided to visit the polish part of Tatras since we felt it is a little bit less touristy. Zakopane is a great starting point for the hikes. If you're a more skilled hiker, here's the hike I'd recommend. Take a bus from Zakopane to Morskie Oko. Then hike from the parking spot to the lake itself. The next stop is Czarny Staw p. R.. From there, take the green route uphill. We didnt climb all the way up to Mięguszowiecka Przełęczbut only to Kazalnica Mengusovská and then back to the parking lot. It is only for advanced hikers, I do NOT recommend for physically less strong folks!!! It has se climbing parts amd the incline is very steep. However, that's the route that stood out to me the most :)

Lovely views and scenic mountains with postcard views of valleys with rustic Highlander villages. But unbelievably crowded during summer and ski seasons. Swarms of people at every attraction. If you’ve seen lots of Mountain View’s you don’t necessarily need to add this one.

Yeah OK. I would have preferred if I did walk on my own, no lake on tours and most things are shut . Tour isn't worth it. Go rent a car and do the walks instead

The High Tatras have not been cheap for a long time.
Ski lift approx. €39 for adults 1 day, kids approx. €35.
Parking in the Slovakian Tatras is bordering on outrageous.
5 EURO FOR 1 HOUR.
Ski rental is OK, affordable!!
PRICES IN HOTELS ARE ALREADY LUXURIOUS. Whereas in Poland you can find great accommodation with modern facilities. We paid €1250 for 4 adults and 2 children for 7 nights.
Slovak pensions or private accommodation are many very old, no investment.
High Tatras yes, but only Polish!!!

The organization of the place is a joke. Even with a very expensive (twice the price of everywhere else) pre-paid ticket, you have to queue for ages to get into the car park. If you then want to take the horse and cart to Morskie Oko you will be extorted and will have to put up with obscenely arrogant drivers. The place has gone to hell. If you want stunning views of the Tatras without the hassle, go across the border to Slovakia.

Exactly three years ago we
hiked the High Tatras from the Slovakian side with great joy. Then, as now, we had our two alpine-experienced dogs 🐕 with whom we had already managed a crossing of the Alps and the Alpa-Adria Trail.
We had also hiked with them dozens of times in the Giant Mountains near Karpacz. No problem at all.
Well, this time we decided on the Polish side of the High Tatras and planned our tour from Zakopane.
We traveled by car. The journey alone (approx. 80km) from Krakow was pure torture. The last 25km took us a whopping 3.5 hours!!! It almost seemed as if the whole of Poland and half of Eastern Europe wanted to go to Zakopane. The city center was completely overcrowded with various tourists and their children running around wildly. It was also very difficult to find a park or some nature for our dogs. Strange, since Zakopane is in the middle of nature. Add to that the constant exhaust fumes from cars that drive through almost all the streets from morning until late at night. After just over an hour, we finally found what we were looking for, to our frustration.
On the second day, we wanted to get to the entrance to the Sarnia Skala. After a really annoying march through the asphalted Zakopane, we reached a small forest path that then took us onto a gravel path. This is located at the foot of the High Tatras and leads to all the marked hiking trails up into the mountains. There you encounter what feels like thousands of hikers, walkers and sometimes unscrupulous cyclists who race past you and your dog at breakneck speed and without any consideration for you and your dog.
After half an hour's walk, we reached the entrance to the mountain, only to find out at the ticket booth that dogs were not allowed here. And nowhere in the Polish Tatras. I was not given any reasons. That was of course a shock. But the fact that Poles who were obviously untrained and inexperienced in hiking were allowed in here, some wearing flip flops, bags full of beer, strollers and their children, was almost slapstick.
Well, we then returned to the hotel.
On the third day we left our dogs in the hotel and went back to the starting point from yesterday. The way up was pure torture. Not because of the effort, but rather because of the completely overcrowded hiking trails. In many places you couldn't overtake the other hikers, sometimes they didn't make room. You were basically forced to run in slow motion behind the flip flop wearers. The ascent was also mostly over rocks that were laid out like stairs. However, here you were more careful not to fall, as some of them were extremely slippery from yesterday's rain.
The ascent to the summit was then another habit to break. Traffic jams without end. Overtaking was then no longer possible on the narrow path. Caught between the smell of sweat and beer, we climbed the last few meters at an extremely slow pace. Somehow reminded me of the last 20 km in our car to Zakopane.
The view at the top was OK, but considering the quality of the path and the crowds, it wasn't worth it.
We then decided to pack our bags and drive back a day earlier.
Definitely not worth the trip. Neither the place. Nor the paths. Sure, we only hiked one from the Polish side, but that was enough to get a creepy impression. Dogs are also not allowed.

Was für eine großartige Landschaft. Hier kann man wirklich die Seele baumeln lassen. War eigentlich nur ein Notreiseziel. Aber wir waren so begeistert, dass wir im kommenden Jahr wieder hinfahren.

Definitely very best place to hike for me. The only alpine mountains in Poland with altitude 2000 m+.
On season (May - October) very, very crowded, especially on weekends, but if you're not going to the most popular trails and peaks (Morskie Oko, Kasprowy Wierch, Orla Perć, Giewont), there are many less crowded trails, and some of them are so wild that you can meet 5-10 people in 3 hours of hiking.
Entrance to the national park costs 6 pln (~$2) and it's definitely worth it. I recommend going everywhere by bus (but drivers often don't speak English), because parkings are expensive (20 pln for one day ~$5.5).
Just avoid crowded trails and enjoy one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Forests and ridges are relatively clean, because park's volunteers are cleaning it up very often, so don't litter.

Ahoj. Som v zakopanom.
Ako sa najľahšie dostanem k nejakému peknému plesu? Nechcem sa v prvý deň hneď odpáliť.. 10 km tura stačí na začiatok

Hello, we are visiting Strbske Pleso in September. I realise that Tatra is not a very wheelchair friendly environment, but are there still posibilities to enjoy the mountains when you have to use a wheelchair?
เขียนเมื่อ 2 สิงหาคม 2019
The trail from Popradske Pleso train stop (adjacent one to Strbske Pleso) to the Popradske Pleso lake and mountain hotel is just an asphalt road, so it could be done in a wheelchair. With 250 meters of height gain, it's certainly not an easy feat, but in terms of the road itself should be no problems. Also, just Strbske Pleso in itself is a very nice place too.

Hi. My wife and I are planning on visiting the Tatras Mountains on a day trip from Kraków in August 2019 and we’d like to hear any recommendations for a location to go wild swimming, like in a lake perhaps. Something really scenic (the area looks stunning so no doubt there’ll be lots of options.. we hope!) so if anyone could recommend a beautiful, natural, not too touristy (secluded ish) spot then we’d appreciate it :0)
เขียนเมื่อ 12 มีนาคม 2019
The Tatras are environment protection area, so you can't swim within the Tatras. You can swim outside of the Tatras like e.g. Czorsztyn Lake, but that isn't more interesting than any other lake so not much of an attraction.

If you plan on going to thr lake , check in the town you are staying in , as you could get a bus to the car parking area , it is a 2 or 3 km walk up to the lake , but you can get a horse carrage to take you up there , there is one cafe / bar / restaurant there , over looking the lake, nice place for lunch , but busy

Could you please tell me what was the name of the organized hike company you booked with...do you recommend them? Thanks!

Any trail names you recommend? Heading there next month staying in Zakopane for 2 days and want to hit some daytime trails for a few miles/hours! THANK YOU!

How long does it take to go up the mountain in the cable car please? Do you also get views of any of the lakes as well please?
Thank you :D
เขียนเมื่อ 31 มีนาคม 2017
Cable car takes around 20 mins to get there, if you buy there-and-back tickets the two rides are 2h apart which means you effectively have >~ 1.5 hour to spend near the top. You see some of the lakes in a valley below you although that's probably not the most spectacular of the places to look onto them due to distance. Depending on where you go, if it's in time when there is snow, a good idea to consider is taking cable car onto Kasprowy Wierch and walking down yourself - you can then visit very nice Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy lake, or if you're into a bit more walking, visit both it and Karb Pass which offers view onto it from above but from very close distance.

where's the best place to fly to and stay at Tatra Mountain
เขียนเมื่อ 24 มกราคม 2017
In Slovakia the airport is in Poprad, which is just few km from mountains. In Poland you can fly to Kraków and from this city take a bus to Zakopane (about 2 hours).
On Polish side Zakopane is the most popular and the best place to stay if you want to hike in Tatra Mountains. On Slovakian side there are many villages and small towns, e.g. Tatranska Lomnica, Vysoke Tatry, Strbske Pleso, Zuberec.
