Its a monument to the victims of the plague in the 1690's. It sits in the trinity square just by the Matthias church.
Its worth a look when you visit Buda Hill and take in the sights.

The Holy Trinity Column is a baroque column erected in memory of the victims of the plague and located in the square in front of the Matthias Church. In 1691 an outbreak of plague broke out in Buda. The first monument was erected in 1706 in memory of the victims. After the plague of 1706, an even larger statue was erected in 1713. This 15 meter high statue can still be seen in the square today.
It's worth a look and hard to miss for anyone visiting Fisherman's Bastion or Matthias Church.

La colonna fu eretta nel 1713 in onore dei morti in precedenza a causa della peste.
È di dimensioni imponenti ed ha un aspetto coinvolgente e suggestivo.

Sur la place devant la magnifique église St Matthias on trouve la colonne dite de la Sainte Trinité; elle fût construite d'abord en 1706 en souvenir de la population morte de la peste à la fin du 17ème siècle. Mais juste comme on allait l'inaugurer il y a une nouvelle épidemie - et on a attendu 3 ans avant d'installer une colonne plus grande et plus large pour conjurer le sort.
Ca a marché visiblement car plus jamais il y a eu une épidemie - de peste en tout cas !
Les images sont évidemment réligieux - il fallait se protéger; et le socle rempli des petits angelots soutenant le roi David suppliant Dieu de ne plus envoyer des plague.
En ce moment elle est un peu cachée par des travaux derrière mais on peut en faire le tour et l'admirer.

This is a monument to the victims of the plagues that swept through the area in the late 17th into the early 18th centuries. It stands in Trinity Square, in front of St Matthias Church.

Nel 1691 scoppiò un'epidemia di peste a Buda. Nel 1713, in onore delle vittime, fu eretta questa imponente statua.

In tutta sincerità, non ha attirato molto la mia attenzione, non fosse altro che per l'ombra che offriva. Sarà che vicino ha S. Mattia, calamita assai più potente!

This decent column, located in a small square next to the beautiful Matthias church, provides some lovely photo-ops of it with the church in the background.
