While this was a fantastic wine tasting room, I see on their website that they closed permanently, as of June 1, 2019. So sad, as I was looking forward to another visit in July! So, I have to give one star, because they are no longer in existence. :-(

Недавно начали увлекаться вином и не могли пропустить винный бар в центре Будапешта. За 30€ на двоих смогли попробовать несколько видов вина и взять бутылку с собой. У Cultivini отличное приложение с винными регионами, откуда узнали, что виноградники не только в Эгере и Токае, но и около Мора, Балатона и Вилани.
Кстати, у них 20% скидка по вторникам с 11-15.

We were in Budapest for the weekend, and wanted to do some wine tasting. While out walking, we hesitated between the tasting in Buda (by the Hilton Hotel) and the wine tasting cruise. We decided on the cruise, but couldn't go in the end as it was low season and the cruises only go 2-3 times per day. So we were left a bit stranded. But how lucky that we were! After googling 'wine tasting Budapest', we found Cultivini. We recently went to exactly the same concept bar in Amsterdam, so knew how it worked, but were pleasantly surprised to see that they only had Hungarian wines on offer. A great way to discover the array of local wines.
The only thing I would maybe say is that although the tablet idea is great, it does limit conversations and also access to information as we got one tablet for 5 people. It would perhaps be an idea to have a 'paper' option, as we really liked this in Amsterdam - it makes it visually easy to see what wines you are going for (different colours for the wines ranging from crisp dry white to complex buttery ones, and same from light reds to very heavy ones), and also you can compare notes with papers one next to the other (also easier if you actually want to buy wine as you can keep the papers of the ones you would like to take with you). But this aside, it was great. We could definitely go back if we were to go to Budapest again.

Regarding the tablets i am not sure what happened, i was not there that time, but of course we have more tablets at place, if you had needed an extra one, you could have asked for an extra. And in case you asked for it, and there was no more available, i am sorry for the inconvenience!

did you know that there are 22 wine regions in Hungary? Prior to my visit, I had only heard of Tokaji. well, 2.5hours later in the wine bar, I learnt about the breadth of the range of Hungarian wine and how fine some of the wines could be - the Gere Attila is definitely up there!
Cultivini has done an amazing job showcasing at least 50 Hungarian wines on enomatic machines - the perfect way to introduce one to Hungary and its fine wines 🍷🍷🍷

We pre-booked, but not sure why, as it doesn’t guarantee a table, and it seems everyone just turns up.
I only drink Rose wine, and there was only one bottle to try, and this wasn’t clear on the website. I have had some really lovely Rose Hungarian wines in the past and it’s a shame that the on,t one they had wasn’t that palatable. That said, they had a lovely bottle of rose bubbly that had to be bought by the bottle, so there was an alternative, but it wasn’t quite the tasting experience I had expected.
My partner is a white wine drinker and there was lots of info available. They give you a tablet so you can read more about the wines you’re trying which is ok but does kill conversation for the person who doesn’t have the tablet in hand!
It was a pleasant enough experience and the staff were genuinely lovely.

Yes, you are right, we are not focusing on rozé wines, but rather the whites and reds. During warm weather we have two kinds of rozés on tap, but in this period of the year we keep only one bottle open. No matter how nice a rozé wine can be, it can't reach the complexity, richness and quality of a white and red, mainly if these ones were aging in barrels. We have only some wines without barrel aging (and rozé is a typical example for that)
But i am glad that overall you liked the experience!

The place was amazing! I've never seen these kind of machines before. I went there with my boyfriend and we bought 2 packages with ham and cheese plates.
The staff was really kind and knowledgeable.
Our favorite wine was the Aszu from Tokai. They have various selection of Hungarian wines.

This place offers you the chance to taste several Hungarian wines, all of them premium (and you pay accordingly). The place is modern and cozy, the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, the wine selection is unbeatable and you always taste fresh wine because the machines they have allow them to be unspoiled.

Rigtigt godt udvalg af ungarske vine - fra de hvide over rosé til røde og ikke mindst de søde tokaj vine. Personalet besidder stor faglighed og rådgiver gerne uden at være anmassende. Man får også udleveret ipad, hvor man kan søge information om ungarns vinsdistrikter, søge på vinene og gårdene bag - det var et ret godt værktøj.
Vi valgte at købe en af deres pakker med en charcuterieplatte og så et beløb til vinsmagning. Beløbet bliver indsat på et "kreditkort" som du så stikker i vin-automaten - hver vin kan du vælge i 3 glas størrelser.
Lokalerne er lidt sterile og kolde, men det opvejes langt af den gode service og store viden.
Vi valgte at købe en af deres pakker med en charcuterieplatte og så et beløb til vinsmagning. Beløbet bliver indsat på et "kreditkort" som du så stikker i vin-automaten - hver vin kan du vælge i 3 glas størrelser.

We had a tasting today, and we enjoyed the very nice and tasteful Hungarian wines. It is nice to get explanation of those wines, by someone who has the knowledge to actually tell something about it. We enjoyed the tasting very much, and loved the system they are using. Very good
Then also, I would like to make a critical note. What about the selling prices of the wines, when you think to buy one? They are not in comparison, with any other wine of any country whatsoever. And there I would say, it can be better. In my opinion, if you want to promote Hungary and its wines, then don’t sell wines of more than 20 euros. I think you have amazing wines of other countries as from 7 euros, maybe even cheaper. So want to beat them, and be in the real competition? You know now where to start...

I am glad you enjoyed the tasting in Cultivini and that you found the explanation that our staff provided useful.
Regarding the second part of your review… I have to disagree that we offer wines only over 20EUR. We have whites, rosés and even reds from 8-10 EUR. The wines we keep here are premium wines, either from the best slopes of the country or they are very limited in bottle number. That is why we have wines on a higher price range as well (up to 460 EUR when it comes to Tokaj Essencia)
We can't compare these wines to the ones you can find in the supermarkets. None of our wines can be found there. So we don't want to even beat the supermarkets, they are not our competitors.

HI there, what are the typical costs or ranges to taste wine? I saw the packages but I think that is too much for me. Just a few tastes... thank you.

Yes, we are working with tasting packages, but in case the costumer intends to buy the wine(s) after the tasting and buying is the purpose of the tasting, then for sure we are offering the option to taste only 1-2 wines to decide which one to pick.
Our most favourable package costs 22 USD in which you can taste avg. 6-8 wines, but depending on the price of the actual wine and the tasting amount, the number can be also from 4 up to 10 kinds of wines.
