The first church on this site in the western part of the Old Town was built by Germans from Westphalia in the 13th century. The church acquired its present appearance, including a tall tower, in the second half of the 14th century. The pointed Gothic steeple was built in the first third of the 15th century. Later in the 17th century, both the tower and spires were rebuilt in the Baroque style, and the spire reached a height of 105 meters. During the last war, the church was badly damaged, the steeple was lost, but restored in the 1970s Soviet years. The church houses a branch of the museum and a concert hall.

Це́рковь Свято́го Никола́я (нем. Nikolaikirche), также церковь Ни́гулисте (эст. Niguliste kirik) — одна из главных средневековых церквей Таллина. Храм, доминирующий в панораме западной части Старого города, был основан в середине XIII века готландскими купцами вестфальского происхождения и был освящён в честь покровителя всех мореходов — святого Николая. Здание сильно пострадало от советской бомбардировки в марте 1944 года и по завершении реставрации стало использоваться как музей и концертный зал. Это один из четырёх филиалов Эстонского художественного музея. Здание церкви внесено в Государственный регистр памятников культуры Эстонии как памятник архитектуры и исторический памятник[1]
В 2023 году музей реновировали и теперь с помощью стеклянного лифта можно подняться в «поднебесный этаж» в исторической церковной башне Музея Нигулисте. Через три этажа лифт поднимает посетителей на поднебесный этаж, откуда открывается уникальный вид на Старый город, Таллиннский залив и все четыре стороны света.
В 2023 году музей реновировали и теперь с помощью стеклянного лифта можно подняться в «поднебесный этаж» в исторической церковной башне Музея Нигулисте. There is a 4pm organ recital in Niguliste Church every Saturday and Sunday. We visited on a Saturday.
There is also a museum and viewing platform here. We took in some of the recital, had a quick look around museum and then went up the lift to the (indoor)viewing platform on the top floor. Again more nice views of the city.
€14 entry for an adult but covered in Tallinn card.

This church is beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. The breathtaking views you get from the viewing platform are totally amazing.
One very good thing is this church is disabled friendly. Stairs have a stairlift and there's a lift to the viewing platform and all floors for any disabled guests they may cater for.
The only thing missing is a small cafe but don't let that put you off. If you miss this attraction you'll live to regret it.
Loved my visit and the fact that anyone can get around and enjoy the whole lot.

I've been to this church several times and as part of the tour too. St. Nicholas Church was built by merchants, sailors, travelers. After all, he is the patron.

It's a place not to be missed. The museum of St. Nicholas, housed in the large church of the same name, has all the characteristics to be not only interesting but also very pleasant and scenic. The casing is that of a church (of St. Nicholas, in fact), dating back to the thirteenth century, which was severely damaged by Soviet bombers in 1944 and by a fire in the 1980s and which has currently been restored to its ancient appearance.
Inside a beautiful display of pieces chosen and exhibited in the large spaces of the building, without filling them. These are magnificent altarpieces, stone tombstones, coats of arms and paintings of historic Tallinn that denote it as a rich merchant city. Beyond these, there are fine ecclesiastical silverware and, above all, the "Danza macabre", an exceptional masterpiece of the fifteenth century by Berndt Notke (we will all have to deal with death... popes, kings, magnates, poor and beggars, beautiful young and old...)
The icing on the cake is the climb to the bell tower with the crystal elevator: go there on a clear winter morning and you will have Tallinn at your feet!

Since I a Tallinn card, I stopped by the church museum, I was more interested in the observation deck in the bell tower with an elevator. The deck provided nice views of old town and was worth the visit. The museum itself contained some church artifacts, but nothing that stands out. There are also some photos of the church before and after WWII destruction and rebuilt. Worth a visit.

Great museum in the heart of old town Tallinn. Definatley makes this a must visit. Art and history are great and the trip up the bell tower gives an amazing view.

Church converted into a museum.
The Danse Macabre exhibited in a dedicated room is very beautiful, particular and interesting.
Some very interesting altarpieces present inside the nave of the church and wooden statues representing sovereigns and knights.
It is worth the entire ticket price to climb to the top of the bell tower of the church to enjoy a splendid 360 degree panorama of the city. There are 233 steps to climb (a must if the elevator is out of service).
The exhibition on pilgrims set up during the period of my visit is interesting and recalls the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, even in its symbols.

Beautiful place included in the Tallinn card (fortunately because it is quite expensive), superbly restored and highlighted, beautiful triptychs and religious treasures on display. Don't miss going up (by elevator) to the top of the bell tower, the view is superb over the city and then going down the stairs is a pure pleasure!
