We picked this spot because it was a convenient spot for my daughter and her family and me and my husband to meet for the 4th of July weekend. The campground wasn't bad and the restrooms clean. Our spot was big enough to pitch a tent along with our rv. But I realize how spoiled I am. The beach sand was gritty and not pleasant at all to walk on and the water not particularly pleasant. We did enjoy the trails and I wish everyone else would have been in the mood if it were so hot without a breeze to make it to the lodge. Great firework show over the weekend! My grandson did enjoy the playground.

The lake was pretty but was in no way clear like Lake Cumberland. We were able to get down to the lake if you go to the lake Barkley Lodge Marina but the governor of Kentucky locks off the beach so you can't even walk on it past Labor Day. The lodge was a terrible terrible condition. If there was one spider there was a billion webs everywhere. The lodge is a beautiful location with all the rooms facing the water but there's been no care of this place. The spider nest everywhere are just repulsive. It wouldn't take that much energy to power wash the outside of that place every year and it looks like it hasn't been done and 30 years. The state of Kentucky needs to learn to take care of the property they own just like we is homeowners must take care of our homes. This place is in terrible disrepair. Had no air conditioning to speak of and it was like 80° and stuffy all night.

Arrived at the lodge at 3:57 and was told before hand not to show up until 4:00 . Was informed that our room will not be ready for another hour or so ... instead of asking me if another room would work I waited for a bit and asked if there was another room ready. Instantly the gentleman said yes .. Could of handled that differently and at least offered another room . Checked In and went to my car to gather our belongings And placed them on the carts they provide . Cart was loaded and I was having problems getting the cart over a concrete lip from the parking lot to where the rooms were dumping half my load off the cart . 5 employees with staff written across the back of their shirts just sat there and watched with not one of them getting up or offering to help... setting the tone for our trip from check in to loading was terrible. Went to the restaurant and waited at the front desk to be seated . The lady was to busy to acknowledge us and we asked another lady standing next to her if she could seat us . Was told it was her job..... The lady was answering phones instead of seating guests .... Have been here before and it is painfully obvious that customer service has taken a dive here . I really felt we were a bother than treated as a paying guest ... I understand that Covid has taken away the buffet but the food quality has gone down hill as well judging from past visits . On a bright note , Jack from the restaurant stood out as he was really down to earth and engaging and was fun to talk with . The views from the cabin are amazing . The staff needs to be trained to engage customers when passing by . Eye contact, a friendly hello will go a long way . Customer Service is lacking here ...

Wife and I stayed here a few weeks ago for 4 days. Our site was nice scenery wise. The paved pads are very narrow with a steep drop off. Water and electric hook ups are shared between two sites. Facilities are run down and gross! It’s like the state just cut funding altogether for this place. Half electric boxes didn’t work around campground resulting in lost revenue. Many pads are very short. Dump station on wrong side of the road. This place could be great if issues were fixed. We’re not going to return here!

We enjoyed our 3 night stay. Lake Barkley is beautiful, the marina is close. Hiking was fun, saw lots of deer. Due to the pandemic there was no room services, we were told to call when we needed towels or anything, and they responded quickly. The room was clean, but the carpet was “iffy” and the balcony was dirty with plenty of cobwebs. We did love the area and would stay again!

We had a fall break stay at the campground, with my sister-in-law and her husband. The park is very pretty; the lodge and restaurant were pleasant. The campground was well below average, and we have stayed in many state park campgrounds. The water access for the sites was poor; the bathrooms were run down and poorly maintained. Whoever is in charge of the campground made no attempt to enforce the rules (e.g., number of tents/campers per site, quiet hours). For RV users, the dump station was fair, at best.

We pulled in to Lake Barley State Park pulling a trailer with two flat tires. The park host Chris was awesome and helped us change the tires and helped us in a camp site. He went above and beyond what is expected in a park host! It’s natural and beautiful there. Very peaceful and beautiful!! We ate at the lodge and it was huge servings and delicious will definitely want to come back!!

Sites were not updated, sites were established in the 70's. Built to accommodate popup camper or tents. No 50 amp service. The water and electric supply is located in between 2 sites and every other site is on the wrong side to hook up to the camper. Sites all have serious inclines, are very short and narrow. The blacktop parking area has a big drop to the grass.
They built decks for the table picnic area which are very nice.
Bathhouse is clean. Cannot get to water from sites, boat ramp terribly steep! The dump station is on the wrong side, we had to go out of the park, turn and go back in to have the sewage dump on the side to dump. Small units might be able to turn in the park, but no large rig, we were 36'.
Probably won't return.
