It’s an easy to moderately difficult hike through Cherokee National Forest to the falls. First 2/3 of the hike is easy. Last 1/3 a bit more challenging. Good idea to bring walking sticks for balance. Many locations to get wonderful photos. Hike right up to or into the falls if your brave.
When we were there, a few hikers brought their dogs. I love dogs but this was VERY IRRITATING! Why would they destroy the quite and solitude of this beautiful place with obnoxious barking, yapping dogs? Irresponsible and thinking only of themselves!!

The path starts out level and wide but is a little tricky by the falls. We were a group in our 50’s and 60’s and we made it all the way so you can do it too!

I found this on a map and saw the distance so we made a day trip out of it. The trail extends out of the first of the two "Rattlesnake" parking areas (if coming form Tellico)....the trails begins at the backside of the lower end of the parking lot. Less than a hundred yards in you come to a T in the trail and the left option carries you to the falls. The upper section of the trail is pretty tame and kind of winds back along the skyway before cutting sharply to the right and down into the drainage.
This lower section of the trail has some extremely steep sections and would be fairly treacherous if the ground were wet. There are several side trails that likely provide "straight across access" to both the precipice of the falls and the splash area. However, beign unfailialr with the terrain we stayed on the trial and wound up well below the falls and had to hike a fair amount of distance uphill to get to them.
As is sometimes the case, the trails in the Cherokee Naitonal Forrest are not as well marked or well maintained as those in the Smokies and you have to kind of watch where you are going a bit more carefully. Study a man before you go and bring it (or picture of it on your cell phone with you) just in case you have a question as to what is the "real trail."
The falls themselves are fairly nice, but much better early in the spring than in the later (and often drier) months of July and August. Overall the hike would grade out as moderate, but it does have a few section that certainly fit into the strenuous category.

Falls Branch Falls is a scenic 70-foot waterfall located in the Citico Creek Wilderness area of Cherokee National Forest east of Tellico Plains. The trailhead is about 20 miles east of Tellico Plains on TN-165/Cherohala Skyway at Rattlesnake Rock West parking. The hike to the falls is 2.6 miles round trip and moderately difficult. From the parking area, the trail leads into the woods and comes to a split right away. Turn left to get on Falls Branch Trail (#87); right is Jeffrey Hell Trail (#196). The road follows an old roadbed running parallel to the skyway for about the first mile and its mostly flat. The last part of the trail is a steep, rocky descent to Falls Branch and is more difficult. You'll have to climb back up on the way out. Once at the creek, you may be able to see the waterfall upstream. Cross the creek and continue to follow the trail to a closer spot to view the falls where the trail ends. The view here can be partially obscured by foliage, but going any further is quite difficult, requiring climbing up a steep bank using tree branches and butt-sliding to get back down. Note that this is a wilderness area, so no trail blazes or signs except at trailheads and intersections. The wildflowers in the area are great; red, white, and purple bee balm were blooming when we visited. And if you're really into adventure, the surrounding Citico Creek Wilderness is very scenic and remote. You're unlikely to see anyone else except at the waterfall, the trails can be difficult to follow, and you have to get wet at several creek crossings - a great wilderness experience. We hiked about twelve miles in the wilderness and found a bunch of other scenic waterfalls and areas.

Make sure you read trail descriptions before you go because the trails here are not well marked. It's a relatively easy downhill for the first mile. Then it's straight down for the next half mile. Don't forget you have to come straight back up that same half mile. The three mile round trip is strenuous but worth it. It was just a little disconcerting that the bear hunters were out with their dogs and we kept hearing the dogs. A local made sure to tell us that this just meant the bears were even further back in the mountains than usual and we surely wouldn't meet one on the trail.
