The Phillips Collection is in the family's original beautiful home. I learned about the family history, the actual building, and saw an amazing art collection.

Each room was beautiful and filled with all of my favorite artists. The staff were very friendly and knowledgable. A hidden gem for art lovers in D.C.

Very interesting collection

Housed in two adjoining private buildings, this eclectic collection is worth seeing. There is always a special exhibit, in this case a series of paintings about the migration of the African American community during the 1940s. Among the permanent collection are paintings by Renoir, Degas, and Chagall among others. Allow at least 2 hours. The layout of the houses and exhibit rooms can be a bit confusing, and while there are elevators, count on some stairs.

Very nice museum to visit. Small so you don't need all day to visit, but can also enjoy other places in the Dupont Circle area (like the Farmers Market)!

The Phillips collection se trouve dans le quartier Dupont Circle, au nord de la ville, à quelques pas de la fameuse Embassy Row.

Il faut réserver des tickets en ligne, disponible 4 semaines en avance, chaque mardi à midi (18h heure française). L'entrée est à 16 $ par personne et, si vous prenez un créneau horaire en heure pleine (par exemple 11h ou 12h) vous payez ce que vous voulez.

La maison dans laquelle se trouve la collection abrite des peintures de renommée mondiale tels que Renoir, Picasso, Klee, Monet, Cézanne, etc. Toute la collection n'est pas visible car il y a des expositions temporaires et, comme dans beaucoup de musées privés aux Etats-Unis, les œuvres sont exposées de manière tournante. Le clou du musée étant le tableau "Le Déjeuner des Canotiers" peint par Renoir entre 1880 et 1881 et acheté en 1923 par Duncan Phillips.

L'exposition temporaire portait sur les œuvres de Lou Stovall, spécialisé dans les affiches d'évènements faites de manière très colorée. On passe également de pièce en pièce d'une magnifique demeure dans laquelle sont exposées les œuvres des autres artistes. La demeure est jolie et typique de la ville de Washington.

Il y a des toilettes, un vestiaire, une grande boutique sur place. Le personnel est sympa.
Prévoir 1h30 pour faire le tour et visiter la demeure.

Great Museum Experience!

This museum is a must-see in DC, and it’s right near DuPont Circle’s great restaurants and busy social scene. It’s also right near a Metro stop, so no worries about parking! The museum boasts many cool displays of modern and contemporary art, and some installations are interactive. Impromptu lectures about particular displays pop up often, and there is much to learn. The building itself is an architectural wonder! I live in Virginia, so we will go back many times to this delightful, informative place.

Taken over by the woke and no longer great

This was our third or fourth visit and the museum is no where as wonderful as it once was. The great Renoir remains with a smattering of other classics but the rest...oh my. The only Degas is one that barely has color and the one Van Gogh on display is not one of the better ones in the collection. There is a room full of Klee which is good but everything else is from no name minorities and race and immigration themed. The woke curators really damaged this museum. Always loved it before and probably won't go again.
