Being interested in 19th crntury Smerican politics, this was a very good opportunity to visit the home of one of the most well-know ex- presidents.
After a brief introduction we were given a guided tour of all four floors of this impressive property.
Our guide was very knowledgeble and made the tour very worthwhile.

Fascinating as a tour of a wealthy urban home from the 1920s, with well informed tour guide about the Wilson lifestyle and family. Minimal coverage of Wilson's presidency and place in history. Heirloom gifts from World War I dignitaries interesting, especially the mosaic of St. Peter from Pope Benedict XV. Artwork by and about Wilson's first wife intriguing, suggesting much more could be told. His second wife was a descendant of Pocahontas, another surprise factoid. Vintage Otis elevator requires staff help to use, but makes all three floors accessible to the handicapped who cannot climb the mansions long staircases.

This is a chance to see the inside of an historic 1920s mansion. It is incredibly well preserved. Everyone who works there is very enthusiastic. Our tour was for 30 minutes. It lasted almost 90 minutes because our guide just kept talking. But make sure you understand the tour hours. Business hours listed on Google are NOT times for tours.

Woodrow Wilson is the only President of the United States who chose to remain in Washington DC after he left the presidency. So his home is of historic significance. Located at 2340 S Street Northwest, just off Embassy Row in Washington DC, the three-story, red brick Georgian Revival structure with large bay windows and a columned entrance way with an overhanging balcony was built in 1915. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. Wilson, the 28th President of the United States, bought the house in the last months of his second term as a gift to his wife, Edith Bolling Wilson. They moved in on Inauguration Day, March 4, 1921. Wilson, who had never seen the house until he moved in, made several modifications, including a billiard room, stacks for his library of over 8,000 books and a one-story brick garage. It was from the balcony that Wilson addressed a crowd on November 11, 1923, his last public appearance. He died in an upstairs bedroom on February 3, 1924. His widow lived in the house until her death on December 28, 1961. She hosted First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy for a brunch in the formal dining room.

when i was there last week they were only open on Saturday and Sunday, check the website to be sure. it is a National Trust site, so members save some money. it is a very interesting house , but the Wilson history makes the tour. the people that work there and give the tours are great at their jobs, they are friendly and make you feel at home. it is still full of actual Wilson furnishings.

Residents of Washington DC, we went to the Woodrow Wilson House simply because friends gave us tickets. We were enormously surprised and pleased at the House, which has original furnishings, rugs, China, portraits, etc. Each visit includes an hour-long guided tour by a knowledgeable and engaging guide who answers questions about any aspect of Wilson, his presidency and retirement years, also about his wife Edith Galt Wilson, and the House itself. There is even a small gift shop with an amazing number of interesting items. Don’t miss this unique gem on your trip to Washington. Your friends will be jealous that you found it and they didn’t, since it’s not part of the typical visit to Washington. And that’s another reason why it’s so special!

My family has ties to Woodrow Wilson - distantly. On my last day in DC I happened to run across something online about the little museum and checked it out. The tour was informative and the guide was very friendly and pleasant.

This was one of those off the main stream tourist attractions that we found online and loved every minute of it. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Most the participants were local DC folks, which gave us a great "insider" view of DC. I would highly recommend this activity for anyone wanting to enjoy evening of fun conversations and old time games. Anyone remember Parcheesi?
