GO HERE! 10 out of 10, recommend. I will tell everyone I speak to about DC how lovely this museum is! Between the wonderfully curated area of William Goss’ stamps to the genuine beauty of the building it’s housed in. Everything was great! I enjoyed the security members being around as well. I felt very safe being there alone.

This is one of those hidden gems that many people don't know about. If you love stamps, postcards, and anything to do with mail then you should not miss going to this museum. Entrance is free but you do have to go through security to enter. There are many displays showing the beginning of mail delivery throughout the decades.

This was a great place to visit. There is so history inside. I was pleasantly surprised how just how much I enjoyed our visit. From an original stage coach, to a mail railroad car, objects from the 9/11 terror attack, and items of mail stolen by the Indians in 1860 and recovered two years later and delivered. There is a ton of history to see at the Postal Museum. Plus it has an interactive area for the kids to make their own postage stamp.

We were staying across the street and went to see the Postal Museum and did not regret it. The museum is on two floors with the main exhibits downstairs (so don't forget to head downstairs, I fear some people may miss it.
The history of the the mail service in the US was well explained. I never realized that the mail service became a need with the arrival of immigrants and this was the only way for them to keep touch with their families back home. I also didn't know that the home delivery of mail was started during the civil war when the men were away fighting and the women would need to go into town to collect their mail which often was many miles away with all the children. If you want a great morning or afternoon and are around Union Station, do go visit this museum.

We went into the Postal Museum to kill time before our train ride from Union Station. The museum is very clean, very well laid out and lots of neat attractions including the inverted Jenny, Z print stamp as well as mailboxes from the Joplin tornados, Amelia Earhart's flight jacket, the handcuffs used for the Unabomber as well as a bunch of baseball memorabilia.
My biggest complaint here, is the security. I have a cotton belt with a removable hook in the front. Going through security, I took my metal hook off and went through the metal detector with no issue. However the guard stopped me and made a scene, telling me I had to take my belt off. What in the world? Do I need to take off my pants and underwear also? That was absolutely ridiculous. I did not have to take my belt off for any of the other museums in DC (we went to all of the Smithsonians) and also went INSIDE of the White House, US Supreme Court and US Capitol as well as the Washington Monument. I did not have to take my belt off anywhere. Are you telling me the POSTAL MUSEUM is more strict than the Capitol and White House? Get real! Their security guards are on a power trip there.

For some reason, our two children LOVED this place. It was one of their favorite museums. They have various displays that are interactive where you can deliver mail, throw boxes into bags etc. I recommend going! Also, it's the Postal Museum so it wasn't as crowded as some of the other museums we visited.

Definitely a hidden gem museum. lots of interesting things for kids and adults. There were exhibits on stamps and mail through the ages as well as postal history

My regret was that we were there on Veteran's day, so the post office was closed. The museum was open but I wanted to buy stamps. I was amazed by the scope of what our USPS has been a part of and responsible for over the years. I think this museum has something for everyone. It was one of my favorite destinations and there was a particularly friendly employee downstairs who went above and beyond to be helpful and cheerful. I wish I had been thoughtful enough to get her name.

Very few stop into this museum which has a fascinating history of postal service and an exceptional collection of stamps. Worth a visit.

I never thought I would be so intrigued by the USPS. We had planned to spend a bit of time there, and long overstayed our estimate. Such cool exhibits!
