I did the IDC course at UDC and I had an amazing time. UDC is by far the most professionel dive school I've seen. Super organised and the teaching was phenomenal. Justin and Rosie are great instructors, super patient, helpful and just really good at what they're doing.
I would totally recommend everybody who wants to go the PADI pro path to go to UDC.
Thanks Justin and Rosie
Yay Diving!

Utila Dive Centre is absolutely incredible! I went all the way through: from Open Water to doing my instructor programme here. I fell in love with everything - from the people and the community the dive shop provided to the detail orientated diving programmes they run. Special mention to the dive master programme - they were flexible with my schedule to make things work for me and whether they were directly involved with my training or not; the staff supported me and guided me through every stage. Thank you to the team there; Euge, Cade, Jules, Justin, Nico - just mentioning a few!!

I went to UDC to do my divemaster training. In June I started with my advanced course then rescue and finally started divemaster. Each course was very fun and well put together. I learned a lot and this process made me a much better diver. In my DM program, my mentor Joan did a great job of getting me scheduled for anything I needed while also making sure I had free time to do some fun dives and enjoy all the amazing sites Utila has to offer. 10/10 recommend.

I love UDC! This was my third trip to Utila- having done my OW, AOW, and Rescue courses over the last 8 years, I figured it was time to return to complete my divemaster certification. My expectations were high, but UDC has proved once again that this is the best dive shop. The quality of education is unparalleled, the facilities are great, the food is wonderful, and the staff couldn't be better.
The staff was so helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. Everyone was more than happy to answer questions, explain things in depth, and take the time to make sure everything made sense. Thank you to Jules, Justin, George, Ruth, Arash, Cade, Echo, Rosie, Katy, Jenny, and Euge. If you get the chance to join Laura in her GoEco projects, run don't walk. Everything Laura is doing is incredible. Lily, Joana, Spencer, and the Safety Stop staff kept us fed and happy. And very special shout-out to my mentor Anton, who was inspiring as an educator and made me feel right at home.
Thank you UDC! See you again soon 💙

UDC is a very large dive center, and although it seems like they push through many students, sometimes at the expense of a more personal touch, my experience was truly exceptional! I originally came to do a set of fun dives to celebrate my girlfriend’s completion of her Divemaster course. However, I ended up signing up for the Caribbean Lionfish Containment Diver course (spear fishing) under instructor Ronya, as well as my Rescue Diver certification with instructor Justin, assisted by Leila, Lucas, and Alex. Each of them was professional, highly knowledgeable, and fantastic at teaching. When I return to Utila, I will definitely be requesting their instruction again. I highly recommend UDC to any divers looking for top-notch training and guidance specifically for the Rescue and Lionfish certifications.

so I did the DIVE MASTER!! at udc with the most amazing person ever! JUUSTIN!!! 🥰 actually he trained me since Open Water, Advanced, DMT & Deep specialty! He was the perfect person for me to go through this process because he can explain everything sooo sloowww and calm, very detailed and exaggerated, that is what I needed because I was sometimes a bit anxious in the water, he always made me feel safe and comfortable. Also advised me with brands and equipment to get for my self and everything he recommended I got it, I wouldn't trust anybody else!
He is always so calm and he is such an experienced diver that I never worry about anything even 40m deep with narcosis 😅, he was an awesome guide, support and most importantly FRIEND!!that now love and cherish and his wife and family!! 😍😍 got to meet them too and they are just the perfect diving couple, so friendly always with smiles and jokes that made my time at UDC and in Utila in general the most amazing enjoyable experience ever in my life!!! I am now coming back to get my IDC!!! because UDC and Justin took my heart put it underwater and gave me everything I need to enjoy this beautiful world that I am now so happy I can enjoy with my friends!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

I came here with my 16 year old son so he could get scuba certified. I have been to about 15 countries to dive and this place was very efficient. From the front staff to the dive staff, everything was made so easy for us. They were also very flexible when my friend missed her flight and showed up to the island days later. I decided to do my advanced OW since I had the time. I wish I could remember everybody’s names who deserve shoutout for outstanding service/attitude, so I apologize to those I don’t remember. Arash and Bella, thank you for leading our class. So much fun. Nim, thank you for making my son’s first dive experience so amazing. Ronya and Nat, those fun dives were so fun. Tomas, you were so patient with my clueless friend. Jordan, you and your colleague are so kind and nice at the Fri y desk. We’ll be back next year!

I did a lot of research before coming to Utila to pick the right dive center. Utila Dive Center always replied really fast to all my questions (Shoutout to Manny!) and helped me to plan my trip. I have zero regrets picking UDC:
In December I did my Rescue Course with Joan and Julie which was an amazing experience. We got really good demonstrations and instructions about all the rescue-scenarios and they were super patient and fun.
After I succeeded my Rescue Course I had to get a couple of training dives done, before I was able to start my Divemaster. Thank you Ruth, Devin and Duncan for bringing me to the best divesites on the island! I literally learned something on each dive (Signs, Finning-Techniques, SMB-Deployments and more!)
In January I was able to start my Divemaster Program. The first two weeks are filled with fun workshops and challenges. Each workshop is tought by one of UDC‘s Divemaster-Mentors. ALL of them made each workshop fun and interesting. When you start your Divemaster course you get one of the Mentors assigned, which is helping you to get trough the whole program as smooth as possible. Looking back, I couldn’t decide who would be the best pick, they are all awesome: Cade (which was mine), Anton, Jules, Arash, Justin, Joan.
I enjoyed the program so much that I ended up doing my Instructor Course. UDC also didn’t disappoint me on this one; Thanks Rosie and Nico!
100% recommend UDC, for each level you‘ll find your perfect course! Would do everything all over again

How many hours a day are you in school for your open water certificate and do they offer any online options so you are not spending your whole week in class.
Thanks

Hi Stanb8! The schedule of the course depends largely on the instructor and the students on the course as we want to make sure everyone is learning at a comfortable and fun pace. Having said that, you’re usually looking at 3-4 hours in the AM and 3-4 hours in the PM with a break in between for lunch, as well as potentially some half-days. Again, this depends largely on the instructor and changes course to course.
There is an option to complete the theory online through the PADI eLearning offering which you would purchase at PADI's official site. Please note that there is an additional cost for this option, which you pay directly to PADI at the time of purchase. If you have done this option it usually means you can start with the water sessions right away. The time that it saves you will depend heavily on the other students of the course, but it does mean you do not need to spend as much time in the classroom. If you did the eLEARNING, there would be $90.00 discount on the course price.

My husband and I are thinking of visiting the last 2 weeks in July and getting our beginner level scuba certificate. We realize it’s the rainy season, how’s the visibility? And is this a good time to come?
เขียนเมื่อ 6 มิถุนายน 2018
Visibility is pretty good most of the time. 15-20m. Occasional windy days or rain reduce it temporarily but it’s not been bad through May.

There is an international airport in Roatan (RTB). Fly there and then take the Utila Dream Ferry over to Utila (1 hour ferry ride).
I know Utila has it's own airport but not sure how many flights go there.

My wife & I are freediver/spearfish can we legally spearfish Lion Fish around Utila? We have all our own equipment including small Lion Fish guns & pole spears. I'm looking to book a trip to Utila in Late Feb early March. Thanks any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Eric:
There is an initiative to erradicate lion fish in the whole bay islands. However, doing it on your own is NOT advisable, since spear fishing (for any other species) is forbidden in the reef, and should someone see you with spearfishing gear, you might get in trouble. UDC has, in their fun dives, lion fish hunting trips. That would be a safe way to achieve your goal.

Hi, what is your advice for someone with mild asthma effected mainly by very cold temperatures and who doesn't necessarily want to dive that deep but still experience Utilas diving? Do they have to be signed off by a doctor before they arrive on the island and if so will that delay or prevent them from doing an open water course for example? Thanks, Amy
เขียนเมื่อ 31 มีนาคม 2017
Hey AimsCourt....if you are signing up for a diving course and you answer YES to any of the questions and yes, one of those is do you have asthma then they will send you for a doctors approval. You can do this with your own doctor where you live or you can do it with the doctors on the island...they are very well trained and are a lot less expensive than at least here in the US. It will delay your start time, but the doctor will make rounds to the dive shops...you wouldn't be the only one who needs a sign of from the doc. The water isn't very cold at all...I left at the end of April and the temp. was 28c. UDC is great and they will do everything in their power to make your diving experience exceptional!

Buenas!!!

Gracias!

Hi Mathew,
Thanks for the review. Actually I'm thinking seriously to go to UDC for my DM.
My question is do you know any accommodation near and outside of UDC. because
Their own facility will be expensive for DM period?
Thanks

Hi!
I have the same question as Kyle! :)
I'm still pretty new to diving but I want to work my way up to being DM.
I got my OPW in Belize 2013, and the rescue 2013 on Aruba approximately I have 40 dives.
Please send me information about prices, time, if its possible and easy for me to work with this when Im done with the DM.
