It looks exactly like the photo and if waterfalls is your thing, you should go. But if you're short on time, skip it. There are several other waterfalls on Kauai that are much more impressive.

This was part of a Princess cruise excursion. While we have been to Kauai before, this was our first time visiting Opeakaa Falls.
It is a short, easy walk to the falls from the parking lot. The falls are a long distance from the viewing areas, but still scenic.

I am going to give this a five and not a four because hey, it’s a waterfall and a peaceful experience, even though you are pretty far away to view it.
This is pretty easy to get to and right off the highway at a fairly large parking lot with clean bathrooms. There is a very short walkway to get out to see the falls.
Unfortunately, you are really standing pretty much on the two lane highway to get your photos and the best view of the falls. It is also a lot farther away viewing-wise compared to Wailua Falls so you’ll need to zoom in. There is a crosswalk, and when you go across the street there is a beautiful scenic lookout over the river that is worth viewing (no falls). Just be very aware of oncoming traffic.

The view is nice, the panorama too. Too bad it's by the road and you can't go there... But it's in the sightseeing tour so you'll go and it's good.

I used to live on Kauai, and drove past these falls every day on the way to work. But we came back as tourists and went to see them. They are pretty overgrown with vegetation now, but still pretty and huge and jaw dropping. You literally will drive up to the parking lot (or ride up in a tour bus) and walk out to see them across the valley. Worth a stop to see though.

Like Wailua Falls, you simply view these from the road but they’re beautiful. Across the street is a wonderful view of the river and surrounding valley.

If in the area and you have some spare time, do the Wailua Heritage Trail that stops at a number of sites and includes the Opaekaa Falls. The day we went there was plenty of parking, but note you only see from a distance but they are quite pretty.

Nice waterfall with a lot of traffic. White tropicbirds flew from the surrounding cliffs. Can continue down the road to the arboretum or monastery to fill out a morning.

This site is a safe bet for those with mobility issues. There is a small parking lot you pull into and you can see the falls from there. It's free so you can't beat that.

Pretty close to our condo and an easy trek to view. Easy parking in a turnout off main road. The picture spot is perfect and the falls were moving even during a dry spell. A couple of people selling lei's and things but not pushy. A nice quick stop.
