This place is so dilapidated it's very disappointing. The artefacts although moderately few, are priceless, but they are displayed with such a lack of appreciation and protection of them that its another clear evidence of how little of the tourist dollars are actually used to support the preservation and display of the rich cultural heritage of Uganda. Other smaller museums around the country are far superior even if smaller.
This place could do with a major refresh, signage, fixing broken display cases, removing empty/ broken cases.
The one good thing (as with all of Uganda museums) is the people - the guides are very knowledgeable. A lady was displaying musical instruments and was kind and engaging in displaying how to play.
If you have no other place to see Ugandan history its probably worth stopping by but moderate your expectations.

Attended the museum on the 20th April 2023 and found it a thoroughly enjoyable experience which was much more enhanced by our guide Rose , a graduate of geography and history. I would recommend that anyone visiting needs a guide for the museum as they are all very knowledgeable and take time to explain everything on the history of Uganda even before it was Uganda.
It was a fascinating visit and was surprised that some artifacts may be copies as the originals are still held in the British museum which they should in my opinion be returned.
I will visit again on my next trip

We bezochten dit museum met een gids en enkele vrienden uit Kampala.
Voor deze laatsten zowel als voor ons, was het hun eerste bezoek aan dit museum. Zij betoonden veel interesse voor de geschiedenis van hun land en waren enthousiast over hun bezoek.
Dat verheugde ons maar anderzijds waren wij toch wat ontgoocheld over de collectie zelf! Zo zie je maar dat onze verwachtingen niet altijd dezelfde zijn.
Voor deze laatsten zowel als voor ons, was het hun eerste bezoek aan dit museum. Zij betoonden veel interesse voor de geschiedenis van hun land en waren enthousiast over hun bezoek.
Dat verheugde ons maar anderzijds waren wij toch wat ontgoocheld over de collectie zelf! Zo zie je maar dat onze verwachtingen niet altijd dezelfde zijn.

I got to see the ancient Uganda native cloths, and learnt lots of historical backgrounds. The kingdoms and cultures, beadwork, art and African craft.

The museum was packed!
Passed by mid Friday afternoon and the museum was full of bus loads of school kids. It's wonderful they have an opportunity to visit (but it was so busy that I decided to visit the Uganda Society library instead. What lovely, precious old books 🤩🇺🇬

There are many interesting exhibits in this museum relating to the culture and tribes that describe Uganda. Our guide was great and very knowledgeable, and I learned a lot.
In my opinion, some of the exhibits are too accessible (cars, drums) and should be better protected from a curious public.
I would like to spend more time for more in-depth learning. Overall a satisfying experience.

This museum was the most disappointing of the national museums I visits (Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda). It is more akin to a cultural museum and not a history museum. There is no references other than 1 panel to colonization and the post-colonization history.
It is a good way to learn about the different tribes, but the info gets somewhat repetitive.

A worthwhile experience but nothing really magical. I did enjoy looking at the exhibition and inparticular the section about the Ugandans participation in the Olympic Games over the years.
There are some good displays here to give a flavour of Uganda. I spent about an hour here and it was very cheap to get in. They only accept cash.

On a saterdaymorning with a few hours to kill I went to visit the Uganda museum in Kampala. This unfortunately turned out to be an outdated en undermaintenanced musuem that could have been very nice. The displays have not been cleaned for a very long time and in many cases the signs are missing parts of the text. Also it misses proper lighting so it sometimes is hard to see what actually is on display

1.I think between 15000 - 20000 Ugandan shillings for the international visitor. Not sure if that was per person or 2 people. I think they is different pricing for student etc.but not exactly sure.
2.working hours could be from 10 - 4, but also not sure, we were there on Sunday.
3.You can buy there local souvenirs, such as t shirt, jewellery locally made, drums, cups, keyring, some paintings etc.
