My favourite place in Kathamandu!!!

It is a women's project that is employing more than 75 women in rural Nepal to make these environmentally friendly products. The first time I met this shop I was impressed with all the history they have behind them and all that they have achieved in the last few years. Saheen is a sweetheart and if you go there she will be happy to assist you and show you the room upstairs with more products. They have lots of hemp gifts, clothes, accessories....

If you are interested in knowing more about the project you can visit the workshop where they produce the products according to fair trade principles and meet the wonderful women behind this project. 100% recommended! :) Here some pictures of the shop!

The best place to get quality gifts and souvenirs and to be inspired

This shop comes Highly recommended for the design and quality of the products. But it also represents the powerful message of hard work and determination to escape from oppression and poverty. My latest visit to this remarkable project was truly inspirational. I had last visited the shop and the workshop in 2016 and what a transformation of the workshops and accommodation.
Please visit the shop send website and support them.

I really appreciate the time that Sahin took to explain me the artisanal and ethnical production process. I definitely recommend this place :)

Founded by Nasreen Sheikh, the Local Women's Handicraft supports & empowers Nepali women.
All jewelry & clothing is made locally (just north of Thamel) and tours of the facility are available ($60 USD per person).
In addition to providing jobs, this initiative also helps to educate and reaches into rural Nepali villages to provide basic necessities.
Ask for Saheen who works in the shop about tours and any other info.
If looking to purchase souvenirs in Kathmandu, would recommend starting here to support this amazing work.

Feel good purchase

I bought a hemp backpack and a recycled yoga mat (which is so pretty!!!) from Local Women’s Handicrafts. What they are doing is amazing and I feel so happy to support! I have a feeling I will use this backpack for many years to come! Thank you so much! Especially to Sahin she is so sweet and knowledgeable ~ thank you.

I highly recommend this shop over all the other tourist shops. Your money is going to a collective helping women instead of supporting possible child labor/poor quality products!

PS- they have the most beautiful embroidered scarfs! So luxurious and soft

Best place to get your gifts and souvenirs

This is an awesome initiative that supports women in various regions of Nepal. The prices are plain fair and therefore higher than in your lambda Thamel shop. But in return you are sure that it was not made by children, that people who made it got a decent wage and even that women making it are part of a supportive network that provides them with professional training, education and health care... Go back home feeling good about yourself! Check their website, fb page and insta! Love and peace yall!
