Good experience with a very charismatic and informative guide. It was an immersive, personal day with beautiful animals. Although they are captive, the animals are very well cared for and treated with respect. It was a gorgeous hike, great lunch, and all around wonderful day. Touring the village was an excellent bonus.

Kids was very glad for the tour. It was nice tour, walking with the elephants, feeding them, watching them in the jungle and bathing with them. It seems that they treat elephants well, but they also have bullhook, and they are talking about domestic elephants. The Animal Protection writte that domestic elephants don't exist and people with bullhook don't treat them well. We don’t know what is true.

The most magical experience in a beautiful mountain village! You can clearly see how loved and cared for these elephants are by this local Karen family and you get a look into village life and can learn about the history of elephants in Thailand. My partner and I did the overnight stay and it was definitely worth it as you get a lot of time for feeding, bathing, and walking with the elephants, as well as resting and exploring the surrounding jungle and village. I highly recommend supporting the Elephant Freedom Village as an ethical option to see elephants in Thailand. (It also doesn't hurt that they have the best coffee I've ever tasted.)

I just did the half day tour and it was so amazing! The elephants were fantastic and interactive. The staff was great. I really enjoyed the interaction with the elephants throughout the day. I heard about several other places from people at my hostel and Elephant Freedom Village by far sounded like the best one.

STOP LOOKING AT OTHER ELEPAHNT TOURS AND BOOK A FULL DAY AT ELEPHANT FREEDOM VILLAGE!
This experience was truly life changing, humbling, and very fun!
Elephant freedom village was a great place to experience the magnificence of elephants. We wanted to find a place that actually cared for elephants, and we found it here! All 7 elephants are well cared for, with each one having their own keeper who loves them.
Sakcharn was our guide for the day, and he did a great job of explaining the relationship between the Karen people, his family, and the elephants. He was extremely personable and spoke good English.
We spent several hours of quality time with the elephants feeding them, hiking with them, and swimming with them. Sakcharn captured tons of wonderful pictures and videos for us.
After our day with the elephants, we went to the village, and we were accompanied by Mel. She toured us through the village, as well as gave us more insight into the Karen people. It was a blessing spending time with her. Mel was full of life with a heart of gold for animals.
We spent 5 days in Chiang Mai and this was the highlight of our trip. Everything was perfect from our fun and friendly driver, to coffee on arrival, to lots of elephants kisses and hugs, a delicious lunch, and an unforgetable village tour to end the day.
We were extremely pleased with every aspect of the day, and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Absolutely breathtaking and the highlight of our entire trip. The elephant interaction is unbelievably fun and authentic. These elephants are family to the trainers and it shows. Can’t recommend enough and if you are looking for an ethical place that loves their elephants, then stop looking.

I think this tour may be the highlight of my trip to Thailand. I was very sceptical about booking an elephant tour, and was worried that the elephants may not be as well treated as they say the are. However you can see the elephants are sooo well looked after, loved and happy here, it really was the best day!

This is by far the highlight of our Thailand trip.
The staff are transparent about everything that goes into training an elephant and really want to spread accurate information. They paint the picture of their interaction with elephants over the past generation and it is clear they truely care for their welfare.
It is a surreal experience to see the elephants up close. To touch, feel, bathe and feed these beautiful animals is something I’ll remember forever.
If you’re planning on going, I couldn’t recommend the overnight stay more highly. Not only do you get to experience the elephants for an extra day, but you get the luxury of eating lunch by a beautiful waterfall and going on an easy trek with the elephants. To top it off, you are given an authentic experience through the village, get to interact with the Karen people, get welcomed into their homes / village and really experience what it is like for them.
Thanks for everything Sasha, Tera Chai and the whole team :) from your Australian friends
This is a must do activity!!

I cannot describe how unbelievably magical this experience was. Myself and my wife spent our honeymoon in Thailand. Top of our list of things we wanted to do was to go see some elephants while we were there. We done a lot of research to find a good and ethical village and the Elephant Freedom village blew away our expectations.
We got picked up at our hotel in Chiang Mai by “Wirot” the self proclaimed “funny guy” who was indeed hilarious making jokes the entire journey. The drive was about an hour and a half up into the hills which was stunning, we stopped at a local village for a well needed iced coffee and got to see all the villagers working in the rice fields.
Then it was onto the Elephant village where we were greeted by all the local dogs who were super happy to see us. After a quick change of clothes into the local attire we got introduced to all the villagers. Then it was time for a very educational talk all about the village and the elephants from the camp founder Non. Non is abit of a celebrity and has starred in lots of documentaries about Elephants. You could tell how much he cared and loved the elephants just by the way he talked about them which made us so happy as we heard of a lot of places that exploit them.
Then it was onto the main attraction, time to see and spend some time with the elephants. We helped bring their food down and I cannot explain how unbelievable it was to see a full herd of elephants coming walking up the path towards us. The keepers were all so friendly (Niijan and Sa-cha) introducing us to each elephant and answering any questions we had about them.
After a quick snack for the elephants it was time to go for a walk with them, never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that i would be strolling through a jungle in Thailand with a herd of elephants. They were all so beautiful and gentle, roaming freely, even the cheekiest one Valentino our favourite of them all. After spending some time with them we got taken down to see a beautiful waterfall to have a gorgeous lunch set out in banana leaves for us which was delicious.
Then it was time for a bath for all of us, we walked with the elephants down to a running stream and they bounded in, you could tell they loved the water. We grabbed a couple of scrub brushes and helped give them a good scrub while they blew water out of there trunks at us. Just getting up that close to an elephant has always been a bucket list of ours but to spend so much time with so many of them was something that I will never forget, the guys at elephant freedom village really did make our dreams come through and I cannot thank them enough.
My advice to you is this, if you are over this part of the world, do not miss out on this experience.

This is one of only a couple of ethically rated elephant activities in the Chiang Mai area, yet there are plenty of others advertised from Chiang Mai. Yes, you may pay slightly more, but this is done in small groups, with a large number of elephants so there’s a good human to elephant ratio, allowing good interactions.
We were in a group of six from Chang Mai (they do groups 12 max) and after a two hour trip by minibus into the Karen region were transferred to the off-road vehicle for the last kilometre to the village.
We learnt about the villagers and the elephants, and then spent time with the elephants, there was plenty of time for photos. The staff were keen to help take photos and videos for you never felt rushed you can ask anything about the elephants how they live have they looked after and the staff are quite open about the history of the elephants, and how other villagers look after them as well.
In the water, you could scrub the elephants get up close, hug them and have fun with them even though they are large creatures you give them respect and it’s very fun experience.
The meal was fine with chicken & rice, vegetables, snacks, fruit with water. Trip back was quicker, as more downhill, and back to the hotel 7-7:30pm
