Very attentive staff both to us and to the elephants. It was a delight to see the care and love they have for the elephants. They customized our experience to accommodate the range of interests and ages of or family group. Highly recommend Chiang Mai Elephant Tours.

My English speaking guide picked me up at my hotel; we stopped on the way to pick up food at a local market, to be cooked for lunch on site. My 20 year old elephant-friend was gracious and always hungry, which is typical of elephants, who eat 10% of their body weight every day. We “talked,” I fed her, bathed her, rode her, and generally had a wonderful time at this small family-run elephant camp.
Sumalee, the daughter of the owner, answers all questions via email, and prepared me well for my experience. For the occasion, I wore a Karen hill tribe jacket and pants, supplied by the camp, which mostly protected my own clothes. Advice: bring flip flops for the river bathing. I was grateful that I had a pair.

The elephant tour have many different type. The one we went is ride on the elephant and cross a river and up a small mountain. We saw some our tour is the elephants walk in the river all the way. The elephant is very nice but somehow feel that the elephants are being abused. The trainer will beat the elephant and tell the elephants to take money from people. Last time we mostly give food to the elephants but now elephants will take money instead of food. Sigh

This family-run business provides a loving environment for its 7 or 8 elephants. It is located about one hour from downtown Chiang Mai and offers a free shuttle. I elected to take the 2-day, 1-night excursion and had a great time. Shuttle picked me up promptly at 8:30AM on day one. I arrived and was provided a optional, traditional Thai work outfit to change into. That protects your closes when riding and caring for the elephants. You get a full immersion into caring, feeding, and riding elephants. I learned so much about the the business, the life of the mahout. The staff are all family members and most speak English. The elephants are gentle giants that are well-behaved and used to being hand fed and bathed. Expect to enjoy authentic Thai cuisine (vegetarian available).
I know there is a lot of chatter on the web about not riding elephants. Believe me, these elephants are treated as family members. You won’t see a hook or a riding basket. The rides are rather short and mercifully so due to the low hanging branches in the jungle. The elephants are quite capable of letting a person ride for long periods.
One thing. Don’t expect a fast trek through the forest. These lumbering giants graze as they go. They enjoy all types of vegetation...about 300 kilos per day. So...take your time, find some shade, and watch the elephant eat.
Recommend you bring a liter or two of water, hand wipes, snacks if you get hungry before lunch or dinner. Nights can be surprisingly cool; recommend a light coat or small blanket. Bug repellant around the ankles and toes is a plus especially during the day. I recommend a pair of tennis shoes AND a pair of sandals or water shoes...you will be traversing streams.
Overall, this place is a gem and highly recommended. The adventure is wrapped up with an hour long rafting trip at a nearby river...sorry, elephants do not get a ride.

During a brief stay in Chiangmai spent the day at Maesa Elephant farm and had a fantastic time. One of my favorite experiences was riding an elephant through a nature trail. Everything about this day trip was exceptional.

Sumalee is warm hearted and very welcoming who speaks good English and has grown up with the Elephants. You are welcomed in by her family and are made to feel special with lots of time with the elephants which allowed my 7 year old to gather confidence. My son 17 and I both rode bare back which was special and we had the most gorgeous lunch cooked by sumalee's mother and the we had a share evening meal with sumalee and her cousin in the evening - special and at a nice pace we rode on elephants several times, washed them in the river, fed them, cut the grass for the feed, bamboo rafted and saw a waterfall and had homemade Thai food and sumalee made us feel relaxed and welcome with more insight into these amazing creatures!

I researched the heck out of elephant experiences to find the "right" one in Chiang Mai and took too long to book with the big ones/companies with many reviews and we stumbled across CM Elephant Tours. We had a fantastic day - Sumalee speaks great English and is a wonderful and enthusiastic host. After picking us up at our hotel she brought us to a fresh market so that we could buy fruit for the elephants then we went to her family's farm where we spent the day as the only two visitors and had unrestricted access to the elephants. We rode them, in the correct way on the neck, although it's a bit of a challenge to balance and hold on. I preferred to just hang out with the elephants, scratching behind their ears (scratch hard) and feeding them treats.
We had an amazing meal with Sumalee and her family - they grew and prepped the ingredients and we prepared the meal of chicken and veggies, another veggie dish and an omelette. We had plenty of food and it was fresh and delicious.
I really appreciated hearing about the family's history with the elephants - they have been in the family for two decades and were used for logging before that was outlawed by the government. Now the family has turned to ethical tourism to support their herd of 11.
The day ends with a gentle bamboo-raft ride down the river with a guide and Sumalee picks you up to take you back to your hotel. It was an amazing and unforgettable day.
Don't be deterred by the lack of reviews - this is a great experience that gives you a family perspective of what it's like to live with elephants. If riding them isn't your style, feel free to ask to skip that. The family is warm and accommodating. Enjoy!

My wife and I went to Thailand for our honeymoon and weren't sure which Elephant Camp to book with. We waited too long and most of the ones recommended in tour books were already full. We found this one via Trip Advisor and were so happy we did. We were a little hesitant because of how few reviews there were - which is why we created an account just to rate our experience and help the camp out.
As other reviews have said, Sumalee is a wonderful host. She picks you up from the hotel and once you get to the camp you get to spend an entire day with the elephants. Within 5 minutes of being at the camp, I was feeding an elephant a banana as they prepped for me to ride it. The baby elephant is adorable and rambunctious. You can tell the owners think of the elephants as members of their family and really care for them. A home-cooked family meal was also a nice treat.
Bathing the elephants was super fun, and the raft ride at the end is a nice way to finish the day. Sumalee was snapping pictures all day and even gave us each a homemade elephant picture frame with photos that she printed out (no charge!). She also was accommodating in getting us the photos via our preferred cloud service of choice. She really is a sweetheart and went out of her way to make sure we had a great time.
Overall we would highly recommend this to anyone - and if you are a little hesitant because of the low quantity of reviews in comparison to other camps (like we were) - don't be!

Hi there. My husband and I are very interested in the exact place you went for your day with the elephants as well as the other people reviewing this place. When you try to contact them the email doesn't work and the website itself seems very broad almost like its a company advertising all sorts of Chiang Mai activities. The name of the place also seems very broad. Do you have any specific contact info you used for this elephant farm? We just want to make sure we are not signing up for some random farm and making sure we are going to the one you're talking about. Thanks!

Hi there I am not sure why you are unable to access the site but I have Sumalee Panyamoon's email address whose farm it is. She will be your contact throughout anyway so she will be more than happy to get an email from you. You must go it is a great day and the bamboo rafting is fab!
I am unable to post her email address in this link so I am not sure how I can get this to you? I will keep trying to find the actual website I used.
Hope this helps
