Vanuit het drukke Pattaya bereik je binnen 1,5 uur het vertrekpunt van de boot, wat gelijk opvalt is de rust en de mooie lotus bloemen.
Alvorens aan de toer te beginnen is er de mogelijkheid om op een klein lokaal marktje, wat rond te kijken en gebruik te maken van het toilet.
Na plaats te hebben genomen in de bootjes (4 personen per boot, lekker ruim) vertrek je door de mooie natuur. Geen toeristen meer, alleen maar lokale bevolking die je opkijkend van hun werk lachend toezwaaien. Op de hele oude markt geeft de gids uitleg over de Thaise lekkernijen en mag er volop worden geproefd, dit is heel leuk en leerzaam. Tijdens de lunch werd er nog extra sate en hapjes geserveerd om ook de Thaise keuken beter te leren kennen. Na de maaltijd verder met het tweede gedeelte van toer waarvan ik als natuur en vogel liefhebber heel erg van heb genoten.

This was a very disappointing trip in a long-tail down a concrete canal way with the odd house on the bank. Once we got to the 'Floating Market' to discover it is fixed shops on the banks & you are the 'Floating Customer' who they hook in and try to get you to buy & it is nothing but a crowded boat shoving exercise.

Pick up by Joy from our hotel for a longish drive to the meeting point to get on the boat......just over an hour. Not a problem, as the vehicle was New and comfortable. The longboat was an experience. Along canals straight and twisty, with clear water, and sometimes covered with plants......it was very noisy, and where possible, very fast. Always felt safe. It was an exhilarating experience.......we arrived after 40 minutes at a market, and it was quiet.....not the weekend.....walked around for a while, and had a very nice lunch......before the return trip on the boat......back to the car, and back to Pattaya. Joy was very knowledgeable about all the areas we travelled through, and took us to a site close to Pattaya where carved into a large mountain was a stunning representation of Buddha. We then went back to the hotel and were dropped of mid afternoon. Great day out.....something different, and would recommend this company.

Nadat we een geweldige dag hadden gehad tijdens de fietstour, hebben we bij Pattaya Bike and Boat tours direct ook deze tour geboekt en weer een fantastische dag gehad!
Alles was perfect geregeld en we hebben genoten van het varen en het zien hoe iedereen aan en bij het water woont en leeft. M'n vrouw heeft genoten van alle koopjes die ze daar op de lokale markt heeft gevonden...en waar we geen andere toerist hebben gezien. Bij ons volgende bezoek aan Pattaya gaan we zeker terug komen bij dit bedrijf!

The long tail boat ride in the canal was different, glad we did it, had the best lunch, Pad Thai or rice, everyone in our group loved the lunch. We visited the guide Malee's house. The only draw back was hard to get on and off the boat, it will be helpful to have a railing on the steps.

Back to the Past Long-Tail Boat Trip
Dealing with Back to the Past was the best! Carolien was prompt, helpful, and amenable. They were very aware of returning us to the ship in plenty of time, and everything worked like a well-oiled machine from start to finish.
Because our Princess Cruise port of Laem Chabang was a three hour drive from Bangkok, we preferred to spend our time exploring the countryside instead of driving. We found two other like-minded couples on our Cruise Critic Roll Call, who then dealt directly with Carolien.
Our 9-passenger van was waiting at the terminal, and our kind, competent driver, Tik , who spoke little English, drove us to the Sanctuary of Truth where we were greeted by Carolien who had added the stop as per our request. After explaining plans for the rest of the day, answering questions, and taking care of tickets, we were on our own to wander at leisure for 1 ½ hours. Besides viewing the amazingly intricate wooden temple which is being built continuously, there are workers everywhere, creating sculptures and furniture, and demonstrating techniques in workshops; animals to feed; horse and elephant rides; lovely grounds, seaside views, and a concession stand to enjoy a cold drink or snack.
Off again in our air conditioned van, we were surprised that, due to the Sanctuary side-trip, our drive to the boats was around 1½ hours toward Bangkok, and would be even farther in the dry season (we had assumed it was near Pattaya). It was a long, silent trip as there was no commentary or information until we finally picked up our English-speaking guide, Malee near our destination.
Once there we were out of the van and into the boats, and WHAM, we exploded away from the dock at tremendous speed and noise for a 25 min. trip through beautiful waterways lined with fields, trees, huts, small homes, a temple or two, and finally, an olde, wooden, truly Thai market built out over the waterway, where our group of 6 were the only tourists in sight. It was hot, but occasional coolish breezes and fans made it bearable. Malee took us to a 'breezy' area, got us cold drinks, offered us a choice of rice (with chicken or shrimp) or the most delicious Pad Thai I've ever had - all fresh-cooked while we sat watching and chatting. After that we wandered through the market enjoying the a 'real' Thai market experience, tasting different foods, asking questions, and purchasing the reasonably-priced goods such as quilted zippered cases, local soaps, snacks, wooden-ware, etc.
Then it was back into the surprisingly comfortable boats for the crazy fun LOUD fast return trip - where we even saw a water buffalo tethered to the side of the waterway.
For some reason we did not get our requested visit with a local family, which would have added to our insight and enjoyment. We've also suggested that slowing near interesting areas, or having information stops along the way would have been appreciated, but that would just enhance the fun trip it is already!
All 6 of us recommend this experience which was a highlight of our trip - we just hope you're prepared for the speed, noise, and long drive - and that you'll be ready for immediate takeoff with ear plugs, sunscreen on, and sunglasses! Have fun!

We had just completed our tour of the temples when our tour guide suggested we try the canal tour. Really glad we did! Saw an unexpected and beautiful side to Bangkok and thoroughly enjoyed it! The feeding of the catfish was a bonus & would highly recommend.

We cant speak highly enough of this daytrip, and really recommend it to all ages!
The long tail boat culture in the klongs (canals) has all but disappeared in the last 10 years, so it probably wont be very long before this tour wont be possible. A generation ago, these canals were the lifeline, transport route, and water source for this whole area......but the road and motor vehicle have now inevitably taken that role.
We were a small group of 3, perfect size....and after an hours drive from Pattaya, and picking up our guide for the day ( Mali, who was ALL sorts of awesome and seems to know EVERYONE), we were off tearing through the klongs at breakneck speed in our long tail. This was great fun, and gave us plenty to see, but the highlight was the markets we visited. Completely off the tourist trail, we were treated to samples of local treats and cuisine (organised by our intrepid guide!),and were able to experience the real Thai market, rather than the tired, tourist driven ones.
Back to the long tail after a delicious lunch, stopping to have a look through a typical village house, and then on back to our hotels.
If you are over all of the Pattaya tourist rubbish, this really is a great (and very good value!) way to break up your holiday.

This is a must do trip if in Thailand, it take you through the bangkok canals on a long tail boat at high speed where you can see and experience the views and Thai culture, it take you to visit a 100year old market submerged with culture and a Buddhist temple, the guide we had was so informative and lovely, drinks and food provide we had a fab time so thank you.

In August our cruise ship arrives Laem Chabang and The Past Long-tail Boat Tour sounds like a great tour. Can you advise who you booked through and if you travelled to Pattaya independently.
