This cooking class was a highlight of our trip to Vietnam! We began with an introduction to the class and what to expect. Then went on a guided tour of a traditional markets complete with delicious samples of fresh fruit! ( I imagine this is dependent on the season) Chris was fantastic from start to finish. He explained things about each ingredient we purchased for the meal and answered all questions we had. Upon completion of the market trip we went back to the restaurant to continue the cooking class. Each person in the class got a chance to work hands on during each step of the meal. The completed meal was fantastic. I will absolutely recommend this class to anyone visiting Vietnam.

Chris was perfect. Luckily, we were the only 2 people on the tour so it was like a personal private class. Extremely fun! Chris took us around the markets, at our own pace, answered so many questions, spoke about his past and the history of Vietnam after which, we went through the actual cooking class. The ingredients, setup and execution was top notch. What a fun day!

This was the second time that I took this class, and it was just as good as the first! Chris was such a wonderful host and chef. The class is as informative as it is fun. I would definitely recommend this to any of my friends visiting Hanoi, and I will certainly do it again the next time I travel there.

We went to the restaurant for dinner and we were so delighted by the delicious food and warm, friendly service, we came back on our last day in Vietnam to cook with Chris. We highly recommend both eating at the Blue Butterfly and learning about Vietnamese culture and cuisine from Chris. He is a master of his craft, an excellent teacher, and a lovely soul. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

Chris did such a good job - picked us up from out hotel, made some broth to simmer as we took a tour through the street markets. When we returned, Chris taught us all sorts of fun kitchen tricks and we made awesome food.

It was great to meet Chef Chris, hear his stories, visit the market and learn how to make some of our favorite dishes hands on. It was a really fun (and delicious!) day - highly recommend this experience. The food we made, was as good as the best we have eaten here - totally worth it, and thanks to staff for the help on the day.

Small class size (5 people) so we got to be very hands on the entire time. Great instruction, nice recipes.

We had a great time with Chris! We had a small group (us - a couple, plus a family of three). We started the class by prepping a few ingredients that needed longer time to cook. Then we took cyclo taxis to the market where Chris walked with us to pick up ingredients for the class and taught us a lot about local ingredients and how he picks his fresh food. We then went back to the kitchen and finished up the four dishes. Chris had his team help finish some of the dishes, so we were able to optimize our time by learning and doing new things constantly (but still getting finished dishes in the end!). Totally recommend this class - the food was amazing, and we learned a ton! Chris is hilarious and a great teacher.

After shopping at the local street market we prepared our dishes in the kitchen of the restaurant. We learned a lot about the ingredients and techniques, but most of all we had great fun with chef Chris!

Hi there,
Yes, I am vegetarian so I just made vegetarian versions of the meat dishes. It was all delicious and they were very careful not to have meat touch any of my food.

Cooking classes are held everyday as long as people are booking them. There's a morning class 9am - 1pm (4hours) and an afternoon class, can't remember the start time. Morning class is recommended because the market tour is more lively earlier in the day. Class is $35/person. Don't let them to try and charge you more money.

I think they may ask for a small fee. I'm pretty sure they would want money for the market tour part of the class. Basically the highlight of the experience.
