Flipante.

We wanted to visit the Center during our Cu Chi Tunnels Tour, however according to our guide, it is closed to visitors because the government took it over.

This Centre used to be a popular stop for people visiting the nearby Cu Chi tunnels.
In 2016 the government Forest Protection Service took over operation and management from the NGO previously running it.
The Centre is still in a period of reorganisation and I recommend you do NOT visit.
All the bears and most of the other animals have gone; we saw about a dozen monkeys & gibbons, 2 parrots, an owl, a falcon, a hawk and a tortoise. A civit (?) cat was there but hidden sleeping.
Admission arrangements are apparently that prospective visitors should first go to Saigon Zoo to get a paper as permission to visit (in our case we were kindly allowed a quick look without this).
Visitors should be aware the facility's purpose is to help injured and rescued animals and their money (correctly) focuses on this, not on comfortable/attractive enclosures. Some visitors may find the small stark cages upsetting.
The original NGO (WAR) plans to establish a new Centre elsewhere.
As an aside, anyone visiting Phnom Pehn should prioritise a day trip (7 seat van $80) to the World Class "rescued animal reserve" at Phnom Tamao. Simply outstanding wildlife park, vast woodland enclosures, hundreds of animals - even tigers.

I was really looking forward to visiting this place during my recent trip to HCMC. I emailed the Wildlife At Risk NGO that was co-operating the facility with the Forestry Department of the Vietnam Gov't and requested a visit. Unfortunately, the staff of WAR were all kicked out by the FD and they have no idea how the animals are and if they're being well looked after. I got a similar response from someone operating the rescue station's facebook page. When I actually arrived in Vietnam, I went to a tour operator and they called to see if we could visit. They were told that the center is closed for visitors. No explanation given and no mention when it might re-open. So disheartening!

It's unfortunate to tell with you guys that The Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Station is no longer accepting guests or anyone to visit. Since 2015, the primary party named Wildlife At Risk (WAR) which did an amazing job to take care, maintain and develop this Rescue Station has transferred all privileges to Forest Protection Department of Vietnam due to some internal misunderstandings. I made my trip to Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Station on 10 Mar 2018, the staff there said that all the animals had been released to the natural habitat and no acceptance for external visit anymore in this Rescue Station. Even I was doubting because I heard some animal's sounds inside the gate, but I was done for this station. I heard that the old party - Wildlife At Risk has opened its new station at Dau Tieng, Binh Duong Province, this station is under-construction but soon to complete. I hope all of us to give support to Mr. Lam (Founder of Wildlife At Risk) so much more because after more than 10 years passionately working at Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Station but finally being destroyed and now he and his team have to find a new home for wildlife at Binh Duong Province. I wish I could go there and go volunteer as soon as the station working.

I made my trip to Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Station on 10 March 2018 and one of the staffs there told me that all animals at that moment were released to their natural habitats. I was so sad and doubting but there is good news for us that Wildlife At Risk will soon open its main rescue station on Dau Tieng, Thu Dau Mot city, the building is under-construction. I will contact to Mr.Lam - a manager there to confirm when it officially opens. You can contact me at gmail: enidgruton, please give me your email too so that I could send you such updated information as soon as I get it. Thank you for taking care of Wildlife Rescue and conservation in Vietnam.

Hi Ratheesh_Nai...
Please, you must contact a hotline of WAR : 0932.121.593 right just before you plan to visit The Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue station.

For the pictures and clear connection to what I've seen in other countries, that seems to me as a regular zoo with animal slaves in cages for touristic attraction and profit.
Most of this kind of places are linked to the black market for wildlife, perpetuating and even financing hunting.
If we are all concerned about rescuing the wildlife then we shouldn't support this kind of businesses.
Peace out.

This organisation provides sanctuary for animals that have been confiscated from owners or illegal traders and cannot be returned to the wild. They take care of the animals, keep them safe, provide medicine. Is it as good as frolicking in the wild? Obviously not, but they have to go somewhere. Animals raised in captivity cannot be returned to the wild because they don't know how to feed and protect themselves. This organisation provides a safe haven for the animals, but is open to the public to promote awareness and for fundraising for basic upkeep (i.e. FOOD).

Hi! My husband and I will be visiting the Cu Chi area on February 2 (coming directly from the SGN airport to visit the tunnels) and would very much like to visit the Rescue Station... We'd be grateful for information on the address and hours that day (to avoid the driver scam of being told a place isn't open). We've heard that an appointment may be needed to visit; is that correct (and if so, how do we go about making one)? Thanks so much! Lori :)

Dear Lori S.
I think you have to contact a hotline : 0932.121.593 of Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Station first, if you want to visit this site, which is not far from on the way to Cu Chi Tunnel. You can check with a tourist guide or Hotel for a tour of both wellknown Staions in Cu Chi by shuttle bus.

We are visiting ho chi min in January and my daughter in law really wants to ride elephants is this possible here or near by?
Sorry, but not possible here, it's just a wildlife sanctuary, In fact, although there are a few hundred domesticated elephants in Vietnam, conservation groups strongly advise against riding them as this encourages the capture of wild elephants. there are fewer than 100 wild elephants left in Vietnam. I understand that it seems like a fun and harmless thing to do, but it's not recommended.

Hi, I am hoping to volunteer with wildlife in Vietnam. I have experience in Australia. I arrive in HCMC early August and will be in Vietnam this time for 6 weeks. Are there wildlife centres closer to HCMC? Thanx.

Hi I will be in Ho Chi Minh next Fri to Dun and this is our 2nd visit. The last visit we went to Cu Chi Tunnel and Mekong river. Thus this trip we will like to take taxi only to the Cu Chi Wildlife. How much will it cost.

I would like to see the animals or can you at least give me a list of what animals you have there? Do you have any amphibians there?
When we were there in February, there was a crocodile. There were 6 Moon Bears, gibbons which were really friendly and very cute, the otter family who were very funny, a couple of hornbills, some wild small cats. The animals do change as they are released however I think the bears are there permanently. It was a highlight of our trip to see how well the rescued animals were treated.
